Just the other day, players found what seemed to be a teaser for the next Assassin's Creed game inside The Division 2. There's a poster that advertises an opera called 'Valhalla' (a hall that welcomes warriors who die in battle in Norse mythology), and it features a character clad in red and white robes -- traditional Assassin's Creed colours. The character also appears to be holding the Apple of Eden -- a powerful relic that's a recurring plot point in the series. The idea is that this points to an Assassin's Creed game centred around Vikings.
Well, that's cool and all, but it's not exactly concrete evidence, is it? Fortunately Kotaku has weighed in on the rumour, saying that they've heard from sources that, yes, the next Assassin's Creed will have Vikings. "A few months before this teaser emerged, Kotaku learned from two independent sources familiar with the game that 2020's Assassin’s Creed, code-named Kingdom, does indeed star Vikings," writes the publication.
Given the site's track record, we're inclined to believe that this is the real deal -- and when you stop to think about it, it makes total sense. Assassin's Creed Odyssey has crunchy melee combat, naval exploits, and more than a few nods to mythological creatures and legends. All of that stuff could quite easily be brought forward to a game that features Vikings.
Consider us interested.

I'm well up for Assassin's Creed RPG with Vikings, I must admit.
Awesome, I'm really enjoying Odyssey and should finally finish it by 2020 😂
But will we be Ragnar Lodbrok or Uhtred of Bebbanburg?
Aw man that sounds dope. But you just know they’ll ruin it. Damn.
I wonder if they’ll include my favorite Viking?
@FearIsUseful techno Viking?
Can't wait to return to Skellige.
@Kidfried urgh the bloody music there did my nut in. Lets say Skyrim instead, that was good.
Can’t wait for this. Loved Odyssey and I love Norse mythology so I’m all aboard!
I was actually hoping for the Roman Empire to bridge the gap between Greece and Egypt of antiquity.
And given the Viking period began around 800 AD it seems odd to throw it in the current trilogy.
With all that said, being a Viking would be good old beardy fun!
Ooh yes please, Ubi. A choice of male/female protagonist would be great too.
@kyleforrester87 Porous Viking?
@FearIsUseful I got nothin
@kyleforrester87
I thorght they were not going to make anymore for a while? last time I read anyway, so much for that.
They really hate Japan dont they. 😁
@kyleforrester87 nah, reaching Skellige and hearing the soundtrack was one of the best moments of the game for me. Amazing
@STLamy oh I agree. Then those vocals looped over and over and over and over and over and over...
@kyleforrester87 yeah, I enjoy it but I understand how it can grate some 😂
I used to like some of the older Assassin's Creed games but I tried Odyssey last holiday season and didn't like it much. The game felt much slower paced and all of the enemies would take forever to die as they out-leveled me all of the time. Side missions were boring and felt like obligatory detours to level up. If I was a kid I could see myself liking it a lot more, but as an adult without much time to game anymore, I got bored and traded it in. Not a bad game, just not for me, sadly. Which is a shame because I love Greek Mythology.
As interesting as a viking game sounds, I'm probably going to pass if it falls under the same structure as Odyssey.
realy expected a ancient rome setting for the next ac game though.
you know so they could have an "ancient" trillogy.
but i'll take vikings aswell. alsong as they don't have them wear horns on the helmets.
Vikings. bears.lions oh my that's cool.word up son
About time I think, but I find myself really missing the old Assassin style, the melee action focus of Odyssey was not fun at all for me. 'Vikings' and 'stealth' sounds like a really odd match, so I think this one too will be completely focused on melee combat. So 'no', I don't think this AC is for me either. I would rather replay one of the older games.
Please God no, I want to join Aya/Anumet as she wipes out the rest of the Romans after having an hand in killing Ceasar.
I don't want to do a Viking game, I've got Kratos & Boooooy (sorry Atreus) for that.
Layla has explored two ancient civilisations, it'd be great to have an ancient trilogy!
Hope they keep gay storylines to those who wanna play that way and not force it as part of the story...
I'm not an Ubisoft fan these days, and even I have to admit this sounds cool.
This would be ace. Hardly any games feature vikings, so this sounds epic!
@Flaming_Kaiser I feel like they have AC Japan in a glass case somewhere marked open in case of emergency/when series is on life support. Its literally the most obvious and perfect move for the series. Sucker Punch will be happy though!
So much for looking like the series was heading back to Rome.
So does this confirm no AC in 2019?
@Rob_230 I guess you are right its just a perfect fit its annoying. 😁
Fully on board for this one if it turns out true. I've been really impressed by the new format Creed. Loved Skyrim, God of War and most things Norse really so this is good news.
Including a pic of the poster would have been nice.
Vikings are cool. There hasn't been enough games about Vikings lately.
@AdamNovice I heard that rumor, too. However, it did seem a little too close to Ancient Greece to do a game on Ancient Rome so quickly after.
Anyway, I'm new to this series. I will have to see whether this piques my interest or not. Odyssey certainly did.
Pffff... I'm only just 40 hours into Origins. I'll get Odyssey next Christmas and this new game on PS5 maybe. I love games in viking settings though.
At this point I just don't care, I haven't been interested in AC for years. But for fans this sounds like it could be interesting.
