Re: Diablo Boss Leaves Blizzard After Heading the RPG Franchise for Five Years

RiverGenie

@AgentMantis Both games have a place depending on your needs.

You can make a solid argument for PoE (either of them) being the better game but you need to have the time available to invest to get the most out of them. If you do not have that time available PoE is a bit of a slog and progress can seem marginal.

That is when D4 shines if you just want to go in for a couple of hours, blow up some monsters and make some progress that is possible.

I can have fun with both PoE's & D4 and I think they all have a place in the current market.

(Would still pick Grim Dawn as the best game of this type over the PoE or Diablo franchise though 😉)

Re: So, PS3 Game Sacred 2 Is Getting Remastered for PS5

RiverGenie

I was a PC gamer when this came out and I played the heck out Sacred 2.

It will be interesting to see how well a remaster will do on a PS5 because as other have mentioned it did have performance issues even on pc.

Only other thing I would hope for is they include the dlc as I seem to remember it adds a lot to the game including another class.

Certainly has my attention at least.

Re: PS5 Pro Pockets a Native 8K, 60fps Game

RiverGenie

@DaveTheRave In my circle of friends no that isn't the case. A few rarely watch TV and others are just not into chasing the latest technology of any sort

Edit: quick Google for UK stats shows 4k usage is apparently still low

"Meanwhile, traditional HD Ready TVs are still found in 22% of homes, while 3D TVs (3%) and analogue-only TVs (4%) are now less common. Premium 4K Ultra HD TVs are present in 9% of homes, with higher-income households showing greater adoption (16%)."

Not sure how true that is and looking elsewhere such as the US 4K seems to have a much larger uptake

Re: Poll: Are You Sold on Ghost of Yotei?

RiverGenie

@Jammer I am not playing DS2 but I wouldn't risk it either. Hope it's worth the wait for you when you do get the chance

@neoxmahi sorry you seem to have misplaced your sense of humour. Please try looking under you bed or couch cushions. 😆😉

Re: Poll: Are You Sold on Ghost of Yotei?

RiverGenie

It's a good looking game but it does seem more of the same. I got bored about half way through Tsunami for that very reason and I don't expect I will fair any better with Yotei.

Guess this series is just not for me oh well 🤷‍♂️

Re: Industry Body Representing Publishers Like PlayStation Says Stop Killing Games' Proposals Would Be 'Prohibitively Expensive'

RiverGenie

I know this will be unpopular but they do have a point to a degree.

Making an online game work offline or changing over to peer to peer isn't just a couple lines of code. I expect in a lot of cases might not be possible without a major rewrite,. Who does that work & who pays for that?

Also by the time games reach the point that they might be closed down many of the folks who created the code might not be in the company anymore. So you are then asking folks who may be unfamiliar with how things are put together to do a major rewrite.

Final point what about any licenses that are attached to the game whether that's tools used to make / create or run the game or licences for content such as cars, guns or music that are a core part of games.

How would a community run game ensure that an IP isn't abused or protect assets from being used elsewhere.

Just to be clear I applaud the goals of the campaign but to me it's one of those things that sound easy to do but isn't actually once you get into the weeds.

Not impossible but probably not as easy as some folks are trying to make out.

Re: 'I Much Prefer PS Plus' Lifecycle Management Strategy': Devs Weigh in on Crippling Xbox Game Pass Impact

RiverGenie

As a consumer game pass has let me play and ultimately buy many more games than I might otherwise have done so.

I can't speak for gamepass corporate or it's sustainability and frankly I don't care., it's of no interest to me. While gamepass keeps offering me value as a consumer I will keep using the service.

Think on this I have owned an Xbox only since the launch of this current gen (series consoles.) and have been on Playstation since early PS4 era (before then pc gamer.) I own more games on Xbox than Playstation. So yeah it's clear gamepass certainly stopped me buying games /sarcasm

At this point I only use PS Plus because I have to for multiplayer access.

Re: Gran Turismo's Primary Console Competitor May Be No More

RiverGenie

@Max_the_German @nessisonett Project Motor Racing will be an interesting challenge to GT7 as it brings a lot of things that GT7 will not be able to compete with in its current form ( assuming they deliver.)

The primary thing being curated mods on all platforms it releases on which includes PS5 & Series X. This leads to some exciting possibilities in terms of home brew content for cars & tracks.

It's also doing things like a single player campaign, multi class multiplayer online races and the usual dynamic weather (on all tracks which GT7 still can't do) day / night cycles etc etc

Looking further forward games like Rennsport & Assetto Corsa Evo are also slated for console.

Certainly not going to be without some competition just not from Forza Motorsport it seems.

Re: PlayStation Thinks Its PS Plus Games Are 'Improving' Every Year

RiverGenie

@Bluemoon2008 I subscribe to ps plus because multiplayer is held hostage behind the pay wall so yes I do need the service.

Playstation have a host of first party games to pull from that are not new releases anymore and are not available on gamepass yet they still insist on pulling from the same pool as you put it.

My circumstances are my own and I only speak for myself. I can still be disappointed with the service offered to me in terms of the games offered because it is disappointing to me.

You can be dismissive of my reason or whatever but it still doesn't change my own opinions.

Re: PlayStation Thinks Its PS Plus Games Are 'Improving' Every Year

RiverGenie

@Bluemoon2008 my problem is the games they add i either already own, have played on game pass or have no interest in.

I only have essentials for multiplayer access but even when I was on premium it was essentially still the same issues.

Let take the July 2925 offering;

Diablo 4 I have owned since day 1 on Xbox and have the expansion also. Lets say I didn't own it I would have had access to it on gamepass since March 2025 . I have no reason play it on PS5 at this time.

Justant had been on Gamepass since October 2023 not that I have any interest in it

KOF 15 is a fighting game and I have no interest in the genre

Re: PlayStation Thinks Its PS Plus Games Are 'Improving' Every Year

RiverGenie

It would be fine if it was actually just the odd month out of a year that PS Plus doesn't hit. At the moment if I can get one or two games out of the entire year it's been a good year.

At the moment 6 months into the year PS Plus hasn't even managed to pass that very low bar.

So no for me it hasn't improved and hasn't offered any value beyond giving me access to multiplayer.

Re: Borderlands 4 Fans Convince Dev to Add Combat Radar to the Game

RiverGenie

@Jrs1 Gearbox hosted a Borderlands content creators event & it's those folks who pointed out the issues with the implementation of the default compass radar.

Basically there is a lot of icon overlap that hides things and it gave no indication of elevation which led to folks getting lost.

Seems they made a good enough argument for other options to be added.

Re: Red Dead Redemption 2 PS5 Version Tease Turns Out to Be a Cast Reunion

RiverGenie

@Frmknst this so much. Media and bloggers with no details, verification or accountability just running with it for clicks. Then they all go well shucks folks when it doesn't hit.

You can only cry wolf so many times before you lose credibility and some sites are getting very close to my level of tolerance for this sort of nonsense.

Re: The Outer Worlds 2 Is an $80 Game on PS5, as Xbox Continues to Push Game Pass

RiverGenie

@crackeastwood on Xbox we can buy the premium edition for £30 /$30 using the premium upgrade option as we get the base game included on gamepass.

If at some point base game gets removed from game pass then you normally get the option to buy base game at a sale price.

So no we ain't complaining and anyone with any sense who has Gamepass anyway ain't paying full premium price either

Re: Poll: What Were Your Favourite PS5 Games from State of Play? (June 2025)

RiverGenie

@Hundred_Hand_Slap I personally think fighting games are a pretty niche genre these days. Slapping Marvel onto it will attract some it's still a niche. The folks into the genre are REALLY into though.

For myself it's not something I anticipate playing just because it's still a fighting game which isn't my thing. Having Marvel attached isn't going to change that.

Re: Game of the Month: DOOM: The Dark Ages (May 2025)

RiverGenie

@LikelySatan Understandable it was rough at launch. Rough to the point that in Act 2 there was an entire area you couldn't go near on console or it would crash your game. Fortunately they have patched that particular crash.

Hopefully with more patches it will get to a place that you can enjoy this rough diamond.

Re: Elden Ring Nightreign Has No PS5 Pro Improvements At All

RiverGenie

@Propaperpusher how am I supporting the grift I don't own a pro & didn't buy the game.

All I said was the minority pro console owners are still getting the better experience over the majority of base PS5 owners despite no specific Pro support and that's a supportable fact.

(Source: eurogamer.net & DF analysis as outlined in this article)

Please cite your sources to support your claims & I may stop laughing at you.

Re: Elden Ring Nightreign Has No PS5 Pro Improvements At All

RiverGenie

@Propaperpusher did you not read the article it gets better frame rates on the Pro.

Even if it's not got a pro specific version you are getting a better experience on the pro (apparently).

  • Full disclosure I don't own a pro, don't play this game and mostly game on Series X so I don't really have a horse in this race or any axe to grind.

Re: Poll: Vote for Your PS5 Game of the Month (May 2025)

RiverGenie

Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon.

I was going to wait till this was on sale but I watched about 30 minutes of a stream, stopped watching and immediately purchased the game.

Easily my GOTY even though it was a little rough prior to patches. Very dark and oppressive story with excellent RPG mechanic and progression to back it up.

Re: Atomic Heart Success Turns Game's Developer into Publisher

RiverGenie

@ChrisDeku yes I am aware of the allegations and have seen similar articles elsewhere.

The point I was trying to make to you is that asking for evidence from others to refute your claims while initially not providing any evidence yourself or sources to your claims was a bit hypocritical and undermines any point you might have.

Thank you for rectifying this omission.

Re: First Bonus PS Plus Extra Game from Days of Play Available Now on PS5

RiverGenie

Another Crabs Treasure is well worth your time if you are into souls like games. Yeah it looks goofy but it does play like a souls game.

Even if souls games are not your thing it's still worth a look as it has difficulty option that let you tune things to your preferences.

Sadly for me this is another game I already played to completion on Xbox Gamepass and have no reason to do so again on PS5.

Edit: oh it's an Extra tier so I couldn't play it anyway. 🤷

Re: Fortnite's AI Voiced Darth Vader Is Causing More Chaos in the Games Industry

RiverGenie

Sag-Aftra are sounding more and more like a mafia family looking to extort money or set up a protection racket.

They are not the only option available as much as they want that to be the case.

AI exists, voice actors from other regions exist and even just plain old text is still an option.

At this rate if I was a game dev I would explore every option that doesn't involve Sag-Aftra.

Re: Just 4% of PS5, PS4 Fans Think PS Plus Premium Represents Good Value for Money

RiverGenie

@Titntin I know folks like to keep pushing the it's only just over a quid extra or whatever but it doesn't matter if that extra doesn't bring any value to a person.

I didn't use the streaming service non of the other game were of interest I am giving them money & getting no value for it.

The couple of quid isn't the issue it's the lack of value it brings to an individual and that will vary from person to person.

As an aside I checked this morning I have purchased 14 games on Xbox this year to date, with 6 of them being a result of me being able to try them of game pass first.

I just purchased what is only my second game of the year in a recent sale (The Outer Worlds: Spacers Choice Edition) Obviously non of the two were anything to do with ps plus.

Re: Sony to Focus on PS5 Engagement, First-Party Showing Greater Financial Discipline

RiverGenie

I always thought monthly active users are what game companies use to hide things on a down slope.

I know Blizzard (& ABK as a whole) switched to that to stop showing the decline in subs in World of Warcraft. They would do things like make folks sign in to accept new ToS oh hey active users added. Or if someone played Candy Crush using the same account but on different devices say pc & mobile that's 2 mau's.

We know how that story ended as ABK couldn't hide the decline in monthly active users either and they sold out.

May not be the case here but stuff like this always makes me think what are they trying to hide.

Re: Poll: Are You Playing DOOM: The Dark Ages?

RiverGenie

Playing via gamepass. It's a more deliberate and less frantic combat style but still full on carnage.

It's nothing too fancy or Innovative that hasn't been done elsewhere and there is nothing wrong with that if it's fun, which it is luckily.
