Re: Fortnite's AI Voiced Darth Vader Is Causing More Chaos in the Games Industry

RiverGenie

Sag-Aftra are sounding more and more like a mafia family looking to extort money or set up a protection racket.

They are not the only option available as much as they want that to be the case.

AI exists, voice actors from other regions exist and even just plain old text is still an option.

At this rate if I was a game dev I would explore every option that doesn't involve Sag-Aftra.

Re: Just 4% of PS5, PS4 Fans Think PS Plus Premium Represents Good Value for Money

RiverGenie

@Titntin I know folks like to keep pushing the it's only just over a quid extra or whatever but it doesn't matter if that extra doesn't bring any value to a person.

I didn't use the streaming service non of the other game were of interest I am giving them money & getting no value for it.

The couple of quid isn't the issue it's the lack of value it brings to an individual and that will vary from person to person.

As an aside I checked this morning I have purchased 14 games on Xbox this year to date, with 6 of them being a result of me being able to try them of game pass first.

I just purchased what is only my second game of the year in a recent sale (The Outer Worlds: Spacers Choice Edition) Obviously non of the two were anything to do with ps plus.

Re: Sony to Focus on PS5 Engagement, First-Party Showing Greater Financial Discipline

RiverGenie

I always thought monthly active users are what game companies use to hide things on a down slope.

I know Blizzard (& ABK as a whole) switched to that to stop showing the decline in subs in World of Warcraft. They would do things like make folks sign in to accept new ToS oh hey active users added. Or if someone played Candy Crush using the same account but on different devices say pc & mobile that's 2 mau's.

We know how that story ended as ABK couldn't hide the decline in monthly active users either and they sold out.

May not be the case here but stuff like this always makes me think what are they trying to hide.

Re: Poll: Are You Playing DOOM: The Dark Ages?

RiverGenie

Playing via gamepass. It's a more deliberate and less frantic combat style but still full on carnage.

It's nothing too fancy or Innovative that hasn't been done elsewhere and there is nothing wrong with that if it's fun, which it is luckily.

Re: PS Plus Premium Members Stunned at Dramatic Decline in Quality

RiverGenie

I dumped premium in April once my annual sub was up. I only re-subbed up to essential because multiplayer is held hostage behind the sub and it's the cheapest option.

I don't even care about the monthly free games. As of late it's been stuff that has been on Xbox months before, I already own or I just don't care for them.

No value to me other than multiplayer access.

Re: Poll: Are You Hyped for GTA 6 After Trailer 2?

RiverGenie

Not excited to the point I haven't even watched the trailer & probably won't. I might be a little more excited this time next year assuming no more delays.

I am overloaded with games I can play and enjoy right now that it seems a bit pointless looking so far ahead. I have enough keeping up with stuff releasing in the next couple of months let alone next year or beyond.

It's a good problem to have to be honest. Always better too much choice than not enough so no complaints really

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Clair Obscur: Expedition 33?

RiverGenie

@REALAIS when an article asks for an opinion everyone has the right to give it regardless of what it may be.

Someone may try this game and just bounce off it as the game play, story or whatever ever reason is valid to them just makes it not fun for them.

As I said not every game will gel with everyone the same way and that's ok. If we all liked the same things life would be incredibly boring.

Re: Talking Point: What Should Ghost of Yotei's Biggest PS5 Improvements Be?

RiverGenie

I got to be honest I never finished Ghost of Tsushima as I was extremely bored by about half way through.

There was a lot of go do this thing then go do the same thing again but over here instead. It was very repetitive and I just lost the will to continue the journey.

I watched YouTube to get the story and never went back. It was a stunning looking world and the combat was good enough but yeah 😔

At the moment I am very much on the fence about Yotei given I didn't get on with the first one.

Re: Expedition 33's Sublime Success Sparks Chatter About Final Fantasy's Future

RiverGenie

Do what works for the individual game and do not shoehorn a system into any game because it's the new current hotness.

I have no problems with turn based, active or any other combat system as long as it fits with the game.

Only one I don't really like anywhere are quick time events but a lot of games now a days have auto complete options so even that I can work with if I have to

Re: Not Everyone Loved Oblivion Remastered's Shadow Drop

RiverGenie

It's just business and that's it end of story. Bethesda did what they did to maximise their sales and generate excitement.

Until this article I had never heard of Post Trauma. So yeah they didn't lose a sale from me due to the Oblivion shadow drop as they were never on my radar to begin with.

Re: Poll: Are You Playing Clair Obscur: Expedition 33?

RiverGenie

I did play the prologue and it left unsure whether I would enjoy it or not.

So as it didn't immediately grab me Oblivion Remastered & Balders Gate 3 patch 8 are more of a priority.

I will go back and put time into Exp 33 but it's going to be in a month or so at best.

Re: PS5's Worst Kept Secret Could Now Be Days Away

RiverGenie

You have cried wolf too many times on this one for me to care about these rumours anymore. That you keep posting them when they have proved to be false so many times says a lot about the integrity of the site.

I will for official news or an actual release otherwise you are just wasting everyone's time.

Re: Poll: Are You Planning to Buy Bungie's Marathon?

RiverGenie

I don't mind live service games and play a couple casually. However I have no interest in an extraction shooter no matter who made it or how well regarded (or not) they maybe.

I have no idea how well Marathon will do but I suspect that adding a price will be a huge barrier to entry for many.

Either way it sure will be interesting watching from the sidelines when it launches. Reminder to self : buy popcorn early September

Re: Marathon a 'Premium', Paid for Game on PS5, But It's Not $70

RiverGenie

Positives first it looks slick and the shooting looks tight. However I am just not interested in playing an extraction based shooter

Cost is irrelevant, it could be free to play and I still wouldn't have any interest in the game.

I will be watching how it fairs against it's competitors with a price tag attached. My guess is it will launch with a huge fanfare and do just ok without blowing up the genre.

Re: Microsoft's AI Obsession Continues with Atrocious Copilot Version of Quake 2

RiverGenie

Oh no a technology still in its infancy is not producing AAA content right out of the gate.

Virtual Reality started in the late 1960's early 70's and it's only just finding it's feet in the past couple of years or so. They should have just given up because it wasn't matching what you could see in the cinema or on TV, right?

It's an iterative process, it takes time and effort. This just seems like the usual bash AI article (or Microsoft) that everyone does these days, it's kind of sad.

Re: Talking Point: What Are Your Thoughts on Potential $80 PS5 Games?

RiverGenie

I won't take chances on buying games I am not 100% sold on.

I have taken chances on a lot of games in the past. Sometimes I get a pleasant surprise and sometimes disappointment. It's starting to get to a point that the gamble wouldn't be worth the loss if it doesn't click

So in my case it will be less day one purchases for sure and more waiting on sales to try things out.

Gamepass for Xbox looks a good option too with it's day one releases. If PS Plus did that I might be more inclined to sub at ultimate as that would certainly be a clear incentive to do so.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Assassin's Creed Shadows?

RiverGenie

It's a solid 8 for me. Good enough to have some fun exploring the world & story. Certainly a case of the whole being greater than the sum of its parts.

I am not going to comment on how others vote that is their choice to make for whatever reason. The world would be utterly boring if we all liked the same things or agreed on everything.

Re: PS Plus Essential Is Quietly Having a Great Year on PS5, PS4

RiverGenie

I just downgraded from Ultimate to Essential but the games being offered had nothing to do with it. In terms of games there has been nothing I want to play or hadn't already played elsewhere.

I only need it for multiplayer access for GT7 so essential is my cheapest option. If I didn't need that I wouldn't be using plus as a service in any form.

Re: Have Faith, Space Marine 2 Isn't Being Abandoned Just Yet

RiverGenie

I tried Space Marine 2 recently after getting it in a sale. Not sure I get the hype to be honest the campaign was just ok, nothing spectacular. You could see where it was going to go after the second mission, perceived betrayal, redemption & victory.

The "end game" is grind the same few missions (8 I think?) over & over so you can earn skills to grind the same missions over & over a bit faster with slightly more colourful armour. Yeah, nope!

I would agree with the article that WH40K Rogue Trader is better in every sense at least for me it is. Heck I would say WH40K: Inquisitor - Martyr is better from a content perspective, janky as that game is at times.

I guess if folks are enjoying SM2 that's not a bad thing I just don't understand the appeal is all.

Re: Assassin's Creed Shadows Broke PS Store Sales Records for Ubisoft

RiverGenie

@species I don't understand your drugs / schools analogy or what it has to do with this conversation?

Mtx don't add anything to my game because I don't use them & by that same measure they haven't taken anything away from it either.

I don't have any issues with mtx in games as long as they are optional. I judge each game individually rather than say all mtx bad because that isn't true

Also just to be clear if folks want to buy mtx that is their choice to make and their money to spend as they see fit.

Hope that makes my point of view clear. If you disagree we can agree to disagree and no hard feelings on my part. 👍🙂

Re: Assassin's Creed Shadows Broke PS Store Sales Records for Ubisoft

RiverGenie

@species Sigh, straight to name calling very mature of you.

I have played every AC game to completion since Origins and you know how many times I used the store? Never not one single time.

So yes like many other games there are mtx available. For Assassin's Creed I have never felt my game play was impacted in the slightest by ignoring them.

If you feel that the gameplay is tedious it's probably the game just isn't for you and that's ok too (there are many games I don't get on with as well. ) Either way that doesn't change the fact that you do not need to interact with the store if you don't want to and you can have a perfectly fun time.

Enjoy the rest of your day 😀

Re: Assassin's Creed Shadows Broke PS Store Sales Records for Ubisoft

RiverGenie

@species and so what!? You don't need it and can play the entire game without ever engaging with the store. Just like the previous games the store is all entirely optional.

Even if folks do use the store stuff again so what? That is their choice to make and their money to spend. Non of it will ever impact your game if you don't use the store.

Oh and let's not forget you can earn credits by playing the game and get items that are in the store from the exchange without ever opening your wallet

But sure let's keep spinning this because MuSt hAte uBis0fT

Re: Embrace the Ghoul Within with Fallout 76's Latest Update on PS4

RiverGenie

I enjoy dipping into Fallout 76 every now & again. I play it for a couple of months, have a great time but then drift away usually due to other games.

The ghoul update looks interesting but I have some doubts too and it has some issues.

When you ghoul up your character you get one free chance to deghoul yourself. However if you decide later to ghoul up again and say a patch comes along that changes ghoul powers to a point you are not having fun it then costs real money to deghoul yourself a second time via a token in the atomic shop (& any future deghoulings)

Also to interact with some factions you have to use a disguise to hide that you are a ghoul. It has to be a specific disguise though that you only get from a specific NPC and has some drawback to wearing (slower move speed among other things.) If you want to remove said disguise you have to go back to same NPC to remove it. It's only a clothing item not anything fancy, why?

Why can't you use power armour as a disguise or the many other masks and face covering in the game?

The other thing about the disguise is that many of the factions you have to use it for already have ghouls in their ranks. So why the heck do you have to use a disguise to hide you are a ghoul when they have already accepted them.

It seems a bit all over the place and inconsistent in many places.

That said I am for sure creating a character that will be a ghoul the next time I play F76.
