Re: Deathloop Is High-Intensity Dishonored on PS5, And We're Here for It

@ILikeStake Nah, I can see where you're coming from, but in reality it's more like 5 hours x 8. This will be a heavily layered game. A loop lasts a day, so that's potentially 24 hours of content (more likely to be 8, I guess). Each visionary and NPC will have their own routines for the entire loop. The one thing this won't be is light on content.

As I said to someone on Eurogamer, it's a matter of perspective. Would you get annoyed at having to restart a level of Hitman due to fluffing up? Failure and repitition are part and parcel of videogames, Deathloop just presents it in a more overt, tongue in check way.

But, yes, excellent to have a civil discussion about our differing thoughts! We don't have long left to find out for real. Cheers, chap.

@rjejr I could be wrong (it's happened once before) but I don't think there is any new story content is there? It's all extra game modes - that trailer gave me major Yakuza / Judgement vibes with all those minigames - so maybe PS4 owners won't mind?

Then again, I can see no technical reason this extra content couldn't be on PS4, so I totally get where you are coming from.

@ILikeStake I agree with you about the style of Dishonoured, which was great, being preferable. They really seem to be going for a 70's kitschy look which might bite them in the arse. The mechanics will be sound and the whole game is built around the loop conceit, but I've gotta agree, it looks quite garish.

I do respectfully disagree with your comment that it looks like an underdeveloped game. I just think that cutting edge graphics have never been their focus. This game will be tight. Tightly plotted and tightly timed.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

@ILikeStake Fair enough. Just out of curiosity (because Arkane's games really do deserve to sell better than they do), what is it you don't like the look of (apart from the graphics which aren't that bad, but are stylised) and have you played other Arkane games?

Oh, and whilst I'm asking, what's the appeal of short, sharpened bits of wood?

It does look good, but I feel it's sucess as a game will live or die on how well it collates and presents all the information one gathers during a loop. If I have to remember the 8 visionaries schedules from loop to loop, well, that just ain't gonna happen.

I personally love Arkane and think they are one of the best game designers in the business, but they sadly do not appeal to the mainstream. I don't think this will sell well, not because of fear of missing out on a sequal as suggested above (honestly, whose gonna pass up a good game for that reason? Most people also have a MS machine already in their PCs / laptops), but because it's something different and a little unique. Mainstream dogs don't like different or unique, more's the pity.

@RubyCarbuncle I remember it quite well and thought it was great at the time. Quite wooden in reality, but the photomatching bit was ace and the sprite work quite good and, hell, I just loved Robocop. It's no The Untouchables, but was a good game for it's time that pushed the medium forward.
