Dead Space was undoubtedly one of the standout series of the PlayStation 3 generation, but it was abandoned when it failed to rake in the kind of cash publisher EA expected at the time. The firm does appear to be softening of late, however: it’s bringing back fan favourites like Skate and EA Sports College Football, and is also diversifying its output through its EA Originals initiative, which recently attracted critical acclaim due to the release of It Takes Two.
Now, well-connected and extremely chatty Games Beat scribe Jeff Grubb has raised hopes that the sci-fi survival horror could be making a comeback. While he didn’t explicitly refer to Isaac Clarke et al, he did hint that developer EA Motive has been working on an “established IP” revival, and insinuated that we’ll “be happy” about it. He added: “We’re going to see it [during the company’s 22nd July livestream] if we’re not dead first.”
Of course, there are a plethora of “established IP” in EA’s catalogue – literally dozens, in fact. Few carry the prestige of Dead Space, though. EA Motive has been busy beavering away on Star Wars for some time, having previously worked on Star Wars: Squadrons and Star Wars: Battlefront 2. Job listings have referred to further projects based on the film franchise, although a statement from studio boss Patrick Klaus last year suggested it has “several unannounced” games in the pipeline.
As is always the case with these kinds of rumours, the story stems from quotes so cryptic that it’s practically impossible to extract a whole lot of substance from them. In defence of Grubb, however, his track-record is largely consistent and reliable, so he’s probably on the money when it comes to EA Motive reviving an “established IP”. The question now is simple: which one? We’ll probably have to wait until 22nd July to find out.

Dead space is my favourite horror game ever. I hope this is true but it will probably be another SSX.
iiiisssaaaac
A new game would be fantastic, but I’d also really like to see a remastered collection of all three games. EA did a great job with Mass Effect: Legendary Edition.
Dead Space 1 and 2 are so so good that I really hope this makes a comeback!
I can't enough of people's faces when I show them the eye clip from Dead Space 2, days before they are meant to do an eye surgery lol
Give us full remasters of all three main games to test the interest for the series then just do a full reboot, the series deserves it.
Okay but for real... am I supposed to care what Jeff Grubb says?
The guy is always spouting "rumors" but literally is never right. Why is he even a games journalist? Is he going for the whole even a broken clock can be right 2 times a day thing?
revive dead space AFTER shutting down visceral? i can see that EA thought this one through... if they plan on making a garbage sequel then don't even bother. at the least do a remaster of the trilogy and that should satisfy most.
N.i.c.e.dead space remastered will be awesome.my favorite horror games.word up son
If Dead Space is returning all bets are off that it's actually Dead Space 4 since Visceral's been long defunct as an EA developer
I'm calling complete reboot on this like what happened with Star Wars Battlefront 2015 and maybe a remaster a la Mass Effect of the original Dead Space trilogy for current and last gen platforms
I could see the announcement being Skate instead. EA seeing how well received the Tony Hawk remakes were could possibly put some plans in motion.
But I sure wouldn't mind a new Dead Space.
I wonder if they decided this after the reactions to the "Calisto Protocol" trailer.
If they're actually planning a remaster then it is definitely to make cash off the hype of Callisto Protocol
@Deadlyblack Well Skate is technically already known since Skate 4 was announced last year at EA Play and they said not to expect any future updates for a while so it's probably a ways off
It's likely something else
@TheFrenchiestFry Don't get my hopes up for Dead Space's revival lol.
007 Nightfire 2
My money’s on a John madden point and click adventure based on madden 07.
Actual money is on a dead space trilogy remaster seeing that ea has been porting most of there PS3 era games to modern systems.
Dead space remake, first person shooter, f2p, battle royale!
@nessisonett I wish
The EA Bond games were actually amazing. Apparently a sequel to Nightfire was supposed to happen but got shafted after Brosnan was let go from the role since he was the facial model for the character in games from that era
Yeah, hard pass.
@TheFrenchiestFry I know we’re getting the IO game but yeah, the EA ones deserve some form of port.
Fight night...FIGHT NIGHT...of all the games that need a new entry fight night is the one..i loved the boxing games as they were such good fun and as a two player game it was soooo much fun to have couch battles..brilliant games but i guess EA are all about the ufc now..
OMG. Dead Space is one of the greatest games ever. Deal Space I and Dead Space II are experiences every gamer should have. Hope this is true. We need more Dead Space. Special mention to Dead Space Extraction. Which is a great on rails shooter in it's own right.
Would love a remaster of the trilogy. I never played the third game as I didn't like it went more action and co-op, but willing to give it a try. The Mass Effect trilogy remaster has been a well done job so I am excited to see what they do with it.
It's good guess. I thought there was a trailer already.
Edit
Yes Calisto Protocol isn't EA but I thought it looked cool.
dead space 1 full remake. please
@nessisonett 007 nightmare was awesome when I was in high school. the good days
This guy has been pretty poor with his xbox rumours lately so im not reading too much into this
There was a twitter exchange between two EA execs about Dead Space, teasing their 22nd July livestream. I'm sure....
How cool would this have been to be a complete surprise during the show too. Cheers Jeff
Yeah please full ps5 remake of dead space 1 and 2, give the RE2/ FF7 treatment I will however take a dead space 4 with full rpg elements and space travel 😱
Sweet let's pretend Dead Space 3 didn't happen and get back to the tone of the first game.
Isaac still lives!
Hmm I started clearing my PS3 backlog last year and started on Mass Effect 1, a few weeks later The Legendary Edition was announced. I'm due to start the Dead Space trilogy this week and now this is rumoured....
Anyone got any games they want me to play so remasters get made??
Give me a reboot with an open ship, Metrodvania level design and I'm in.
"Dead Space was undoubtedly one of the standout series of the PlayStation 3 generation, but it was ☆abandoned☆ when it failed to rake in the kind of cash publisher EA expected at the time." Wait is Sammy giving us a sign? Is Abandoned actually Kojima's take on Dead Space?🤔
@AFCC haha, how many people do you know who have needed eye surgery?
Wait... Are you poking people in the eye, just so they need surgery, just so you can show them the Dead Space 2 eye scene before their surgery? Man, that's evil genius level!
Loved Dead Space, but the potential for a reboot to disappoint is high. Maybe just do a remaster first to gauge interest, eh?
@The_Moose Do you have a PS1 and a copy of Vagrant Story?
Let it lie. Video Game industry is going to fall into the same hole as Cinema. Only renewing IP and making sequal after sequal. New IP is exciting but never given the resource because it's "a risk". I don't disagree with anyone here about how great Dead Space was, but it WAS great. Look at Mass Effect, and people still want EA to repeat the same with Dead Space? Halo for me is another example. Halo 3 wrapped and made a masterpiece, then a new approach to the lore was REACH, a rare success of a flogged IP, but then they went one step further and though 4 and 5 on a gameplay were enjoyable, they taint the series
@PossibLeigh
Regrettably not though I thought it had already been ported to current gen 🤔
this would be awesome...come on DS 4
Great if they are looking at 1 and 2, no so great if they are looking at 3 and thinking we want more of that...
I hope during the EA Play that we see Dragon Age 1&2 remaster and maybe Dead Space remaster announced.
@The_Moose Not as far as I am aware. Although it was availabe on PS3, I think, it's not on the store now.
@Porco it really depends. Look at Bluepoint games? They're remastering and making games even better than the original. We just have to wait and see.
Nooooo.
Desert Strike first.
Introducing Dead Space: Galaxy. A new live service, open world MMO with enhanced social features, RPG, and looter mechanics. Rogue-like elements will ensure that the 5 hours of gameplay are extended in multiples of 10, as you grind your way to level 499. Season passes 1 and 2 are already planned, with enhanced weapons and cosmetics already on the pipeline. Get your Isaac's ready to take on the mutated hordes in Dead Space: Galaxy, launching in paid Beta December 2021.
@QBGaming12 Dragon Age: Origins probably needs a huge overhaul like Mass Effect 1 got in Legendary Edition. I would totally pick it up though, one of the greatest RPGs of all time.
@PossibLeigh lol I actually know 4 people in my family that had eye surgery, mostly putting inside lenses.
Or I could be poking people in the eye. Who knows?
Why should EA be trusted to revive Dead Space? Look what they did with Mass Effect, Anthem, or any game which doesn't involve ball fondling..
Man you guys are way too willing to bend over & accept anything, tread softly!! It's EA!!
Am glad Dead Space is returning, however am skeptical because Visceral games were shut down because they were a single player focused studio, so if this new installment a multiplayer focused am going to be disappointed
