... there should be another option "I feel ripped off, but it's essential if I want to play online, so I'm over a barrel"... the fact is there's absolutely no reasonable justification for the price hike and the removal of older games isn't that much of a big deal (although I'd liked them to have continued to support my Vita) - it's just having both consoles (XB1X, PS4) I'm now finding that the same games are being offered on Gold and PS+ - so it's lose/lose for the consumer... when XB Game Pass is miles ahead of Play Now (and only getting stronger) - I think Sony are going to struggle to keep their lead in the next next gen fight (I'm rarely on my PS4 now, as any cross-platform games I get on XB1X for the better experience - Atmos, etc. etc. same with Netflix and streaming services - they're all better on XB1X) Sony is punishing its loyal customers for some reason and it's leaving a nasty taste in my mouth... I won't hurry to buy a PS5...
.. I wasn't expecting much from the demo, but I really enjoyed my time with Anthem... It gave me an overwhelming "Dark Void" vibe that I'd forgotten how much I loved at the time... I enjoyed all Javelins actually, and now I'm actually considering getting it! It wasn't on my radar at all, but flying underwater and exiting via a waterfall just made me grin every time.. I thought it ran well too... (XB1X) decisions, decisions...
... don't forget 'Dreams' will be fully VR compatible... that's going to be HUGE hitter when it arrives (in 2030).. I can't get enough of Tetris at the moment... impossible to play in it on the TV once you've tried it in VR... There was definitely a lull a few months ago, but it's come back stronger than ever, and nice to see the slow decline of rubbish wave shooters that clogged up the releases at the start of its life... next stop, Pixel Ripped 1989...
... I don't understand how anyone can say £30 (preorder) is expensive? Games aren't cheap to make, and the quality of this game is superb - from the stunning soundtrack to the amazing particle effects (VR integration), online leaderboards, etc. etc. - it's priced perfectly. Yes it's Tetris, Jim, but not as you know it...
.. I supported this years ago on PC (early access) - it's mega-fun - simple, yes, controls were spot-on though and it's just a bit of mindless arcade fun... definitely transports you back to days of Road Rash (actually, it's better imho) - if they've kept the tornado level (cars crashing down from the sky, etc.) - it's super-fun! well worth the price of entry...
...looking forward to trying the demo tomorrow, but it's a definite pre-order.. Lumines was amazing, Rez was amazing... this is going to be amazing... sometimes you just want a relaxing puzzler - and sometimes it's nice to return to the classics (Tetris, VRChess, VRPinball, Hypercube, etc.) a worthy addition to the collection!
... they've really got a fight on their hands - Microsoft are going to come out of the gates swinging in the next gen battle... as they gobble up more studios (Obsidian next) and their Game Pass goes from strength-to-strength (free Horizon 4 anyone?!)...
PS5 (or whatever it will be) needs to be tip-top in the tech department (UHD player, atmos-enabled, possibly even dolby vision, TV pass-through would also be nice) otherwise it's going to lag behind on the hardware side...
PSVR 2.0 also (somehow?) needs to be backwards-compatible whilst also bringing in entirely new tech (better tracking / controllers)... this is no easy task... the next year or so will definitely be very interesting! (and a great time to own both systems!)
.. some games you just don't mind supporting... this is one of them... it's going to be a chilled-out November for sure... (32 squid with pre-order bonuses is just fine by me!) nice to have some down-time after all the recent action-heavy releases!
@Sanctanox - it genuinely isn't a wave shooter - simply because you move... this means that the enemies don't have a wave pattern - they flank (and you can flank them) - they're all around you and adapt (take cover, etc.) it reminds me of Gears of War a bit (but obviously killer alien robots) so whatever reviews you're reading.. they're not very accurate - I played 9 waves just to get my feet, and the massive alien gits, etc were following me, turning their attention to my co-op bud, running all over the place, etc. etc. nothing scripted, all adaptive.. and IMMENSE FUN!
... reads like an 8/10 - played a sneaky hour of this this morning (did 9 wave levels on the first arena) - oh my god it's such fun.. controls are spot on (no dodgy aim, etc.) and it looks and sounds great! I'm so glad I pre-ordered this.. worth every penny and easily worthy of an 8/10...
I played with a random person and we were healing / helping / blasting... you're going to have HOURS of fun with this one (and it makes every other wave shooter redundant... bar VR Invaders perhaps... or Shooty Fruity... )
... and no... I don't consider this to be a wave shooter - it's definitely a full-on story game - with an amazing wave shooter mode added on! (win/win)
... let's hope it's optimised for Pro (I'm sure it will be) - this could be an amazing VR seller... I know I'll be getting it day one! Hopefully it'll help raise the quality bar for future VR releases... (just another) reason to jump into PSVR if you haven't already (can't wait for Evasion next week and still loving Firewall...)
... as long as it ships with full VR support (inc. the beta), then they can release it 2020 for all I care... will probably be better with PSVR 2.0 anyway...
.. give me a PSVR version of Eye of Judgement god-damn it! (in all seriousness you already have a 3 million+ base of PSVR users and I suspect most will convert to PSVR2 - and they'll bring many of their friends along for the ride too - it's a great time to be a virtual gamer!)
... we all know Push's penchant to mark down PSVR - it's getting between 7 and 9 in other places... so make of that what you will... pinch of salt, as always people, pinch of salt...
... like many, I was scared Sony would abandon VR, but the difference with PSVR is that from a console point of view it's a MASSIVE differentiation from XB and Ninty - a huge bonus and selling point...
...and remember these past couple of years is the first real foray into a brand new medium.. it's only going to get better.. and Sony are ahead of the pack by a good couple of years (and if you look at VR press - they're delivering more than a "good enough" experience) - the price point is great, the tech, although limited is still very impressive - and as long as PSVR 2.0 is backwards compatible - it'll be an even bigger success...
People quote RE7 as the only game worth playing... there's so much more on there.. from heartbreaking films like Allumette to the wow-factor of Battlefront experience.. I spent an afternoon with Wayward Sky and it's was such a brilliant time (and then there's classics like Thumper, Rush of Blood... and I personally enjoyed The Inpatient - creepy stuff!)
There's something for everyone (Star Trek is still a hoot) and Pinball FX on PSVR is the best version - period. It's not a gimmick, it's not a flash-in-the-pan - it's here to stay and I only hope it either has its own processing unit next time, or they integrate it properly into PS5 - to capitalise on its success and maximise exposure to those not yet brave enough to try it!
..like so many people have said - if you've played one TT game, you've played them all... zero consequences or storyline change whatever you do... and worst of all - a chugging game engine that stutters and clips, even with the simplest of graphics / detail..
Detroit has now set the bar - the staggering amount of change / variety in storyline / world reaction just shows what is possible (as well as amazing production values) - I'm 3/4 through Detroit and cannot wait to start again and do things differently - that's how you make a decent adventure game... just re-skinning the same game year after year with a different theme is probably the reason why they're not commercially viable.. (they just feel lazy)
..it's an amazing game... had me grinning all the way through, with plenty to do... now just waiting for that NG+ update (to experience all the side missions, etc.)
... just finished Spidey last night - amazing game, a no-brain contender for GOTY... perfect-sized map, just the right amount of side-quests and daft missions.. and that combat... far better than Bats - just way more fun and fluid (and varied)...
..it's weird how gaming press still review and regard games so highly when they are littered with microtransactions (especially if you read in other places just how aggressively bad they are in this franchise).. it's like they don't care about the gamer / consumer (I believe gaming journalists have a duty of care... and personally think reviewers should adjust their scores accordingly) nothing mentioned on here how much the grind is if you don't buy the 'ultimate' version which contains however much in-game currency to 'get you started') all this on a £60 game. Scandalous stuff and as a different site described "NBA 2K19 Is A Nightmarish Vision Of Our Microtransaction-Stuffed Future". Read this. https://kotaku.com/nba-2k19-is-a-nightmarish-vision-of-our-microtransactio-1828954456?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+kotaku%2Ffull+%28Kotaku%29
.. an impressive VR line-up.. Sony haven't dropped the ball / ignored PSVR (one of the worries of early adoption) - so that's really great to see... alongside Horizon 4 and a few choice exclusives - a great Autumn of gaming ahead! (just finishing Spidey / Detroit, then a good dose of Firewall, then Horizon 4, then Persona 5 Ultimate recently purchased for £20 in the sale) - and not forgetting Graveyard Keeper on XB1X too (and the other quality games on XB GamePass)... too many games to play!
... I did enjoy the demo, but from reviews, there was a severe lack of content and it was incredibly easy, even on the hard levels... still on the fence with this (absolutely loved the first, they've really dropped the ball with this one though)... will pick it up in the inevitable sale...
... Kotaku review for me too (another reason to remove scoring system) - it made me read the review and the entire thing wasn't summarised into one sentence / paragraph...
.. I think in this day and age where every review site is trying to get their review out first, this often means a rushed or inaccurate review cough, cough, Firewall Zero Hour, cough cough with a score that not only unfairly damages the game, but damages the rep of the site too...
Eurogamer did one thing right over the last year or so and that was remove the scoring policy (but since the redesign / buyout they're god-damned awful).. I think to save this site from losing more of its credibility - scores should be removed asap... (just my opinion of course!)
...best combo is PS4Pro for VR / exclusives and XB1X for cross-platform games / multiplayer... (and PC for those lovely indies)... I would get a Switch, but bought an Aim controller instead!
... played it all weekend, zero waiting in lobbies (always packed) - what an awesome game... woefully reviewed here... it deserves another 1-2 points added on... especially as one of the main issues was long wait times... (which if the review had been done over a week or so and with decent play times - this would have been seen as inaccurate) :/
... every Insomniac game has been burned, PS4 thrown out of the window, every pre-order cancelled - I'm only playing on my Panasonic 3DO and 'escape from monster manor' from now on... quality you can trust.
@get2sammyb - I genuinely think if reviewers on this site spent more time playing the games (several hours, on an MP game like this just released really isn't enough - it needs a good week or so after release - as only hardcore purchasers are going to buy this day one - so of course lobbies will be quieter at the start) and less time defending their poor scores in the comments section (let us not forget the recent review which will remain nameless, deal of the week though if you're interested, with the first comment being from the reviewer defending their poor score...) - then everyone would be happier... :/ get rid of this ridiculously low-word count rule... off-topic a minute, but insane robots review on here was awful - it told the reader NOTHING of the game or how it works - I had to read other review sites just to get a flavour of how it played, presumably due to the arbitrary word limit... and I do think this is stunting reviewer scores / opinions...
@get2sammyb ... when 90% of the PSVR games on here rock in at the 5/6 mark scoreline (Moss gets a '7' FFS), regardless of how many you review - the 1000-word limit and general PSVR apathy really isn't helping it much... what were the hours played on this? This review feels rushed to be one of the first out there to give it a 'meh' rating...
@GKO900 - I do understand your pessimism to a certain extent - I felt really badly burned by the Vita - I bought it, and then Sony just decided to forget about it... Alongside PlayTV... Even the PSP to a certain extent... (I'm still bitter about them ending Eye of Judgement - don't get me started, it's still too painful...) so I thought long and hard about going for PSVR...
I have to say though that Sony have really supported PSVR from day one - maybe not in first-party titles, but in terms of splashing it everywhere on the store, in the sales, ensuring it gets air-time at shows and expos, touring the country with it, etc. I've been impressed with their commitment so far. And it's a technology that developers WANT to work with - so there's no end of content.
3m doesn't sound a lot - but as many have said, when you're paying £300 on top of your console already (effectively for another console) - it's a tough sell and the engagement rate will be low. But VR is here to stay - Facebook's investment in it alone will ensure that (and Microsoft's) - and VR (and MR) is already being seen as more than for just gaming - it's the social aspect (wait until FB VR) - the movie aspect, fitness aspect, the experience aspect, business aspect, etc.) - gaming will be secondary I suspect in the long run.
It's amazing to see such technology now and be part of it - regardless of numbers.
@johncalmc - I think for anyone sitting on the fence re: PSVR - there are now some amazing deals around (and with V2 it's got the HDR pass-through that I don't)... but more importantly there's constantly a stream of different titles on sale - and you'll easily get more than your money's worth cherry picking them... and there are some absolutely stunning titles ranging from Wipeout (insta-classic) to RE7 (still best gaming experience ever) and you can pick these up for peanuts... now is the PERFECT time to pick one up and experience a glimpse of what future gaming is going to look like... I mean I picked up Superhot VR last night (again, massively discounted) - and I've played the 2D version, but in VR, it's like a completely different (and utterly amazing) experience... crouching, ducking, diving, punching, grabbing guns... it's just a fraction of what's to come in the coming years...
.. I think for a very niche technology, it's a brilliant adoption rate, let's hope they make PSVR 2.0 backwards compatible - it would be a crime to lose this catalogue with the inevitable update!
@Neolit - there's always one isn't there?! rolls eyes (neither of us have mentioned how the Wii trounced the competition when that was released!) - a little less pedantry and a few extra social skills go a long way! (and if we're honest X360 certainly in its home country of U.S. trounced the PS3 - and was arguably the better console) - for me the XB1X broke the PS stronghold (I still remember Eye of Judgement - still my favourite PS experience, just beating Resi Evil VR!) no need for fanboyism in this day and age - it's all about the experiences and gaming! Forza Horizon 3 in 4K is a sight to behold and play - I don't think I've ever chased a train in a racing game quite like that - stunning stuff... equally Spiderman is going to be just as impressive - best of both worlds!
... it's weird, the console market has flip-flopped between XB and MS for as long as I can remember.. there's absolutely no doubt PS has won this generation... NEXT generation however I suspect will be a different kettle of fish altogether... I have no doubt MS will come out swinging and if XB1X is anything to go by (and all their new studio acquisitions, etc.) the next gen fight is going to be VERY exciting for the consumer... PS has a long way to catch up on XB1X tech / features... (Atmos, UHD player, Dolby Vision support, TV in, etc.) so it'll be interesting to see what's out of the box with the PS5... let's hope PSVR 2.0 is something awesome too! It's a great time to be a gamer (and to own both consoles!)
(and my money is on both the PS5 and PSVR 2 being backwards compatible - just due to the huge success of both)
..the decline of the arcade racer for me came when Split/Second bombed (still to this day one of the most fun and original racers around..) after that and god-awful Blur - and the (failed) attempted revival of Twisted Metal... it's such a shame because (for me) it's still one of the most fun style of games you can buy... I'm still dipping in / out of Onrush, but the lack of modes is woeful.. even now there's still no Ranked gameplay... there has got to be a shift in releasing half-complete games otherwise not only will the game bomb, but brand-damage will mean future versions will have a harder time too... sad news all around, because Onrush feels and plays like how I would imagine Motorstorm to be in 2018... it's team-based, wreck based, bonkers fun - unfortunately people still prefer to shoot other people and zombies all day long... maybe we're seeing the slow death of original gaming by 1000 shots...
"No matter which event you’re taking part in, you’ll be up against ice-cold AI that will stay in your slipstream no matter how fast you go." THIS. Absolutely this. Killed the beta and kills any kind of fun you might have with the game. Such a shame because graphically it's a notch up from the last one.. OnRush is still a winner in my eyes (and on sale now - GET IT INSTEAD!)
@Futureshark hella yeah! (I was like you, almost bought it at £25 a few weeks ago - this is too good to miss, and I've never completed it, so there's now the motivation to get as far as possible!)
... I was in the closed beta, and the rubber-banding was simply horrid... looks nice though! The boats are particularly fun, but still, the beta made me buy OnRush instead! (and that's just INSANE fun!)
I just don't understand this either / or mentality - surely most people on here have more than one console? :/ MS are lining themselves up to smash it out of the park next gen - with the likes of Playground being solely MS and offering games like Forza Horizon 4 FOR FREE (via Game Pass which is pretty much essential) so Spidey on one console, Horizon on another, etc. - and for those hardcore gamers - Zelda on Switch!
... as an XB1X and Pro/PSVR owner - this E3 is going to be really interesting! Bearing in mind for those people who are counting out M$ - don't - their Games Pass innovation (providing first-party titles like SoT and SoD2 for free) is knocking it out of the park, and many (like myself) buy any cross-platform game (like BF2, Onrush, Surviving Mars, etc.) on XB1X (better performance)... I think the next couple of years for M$ is consolidation... building really good foundations for XB2X(?) I've barely touched my Pro since getting it last Nov.. although these games are going to suck me right back in... the VR sale which starts tomorrow should get me VRing again too!

... I did enjoy the demo, but from reviews, there was a severe lack of content and it was incredibly easy, even on the hard levels... still on the fence with this (absolutely loved the first, they've really dropped the ball with this one though)... will pick it up in the inevitable sale...
Re: Round Up: Shadow of the Tomb Raider PS4 Reviews Can't Make Up Their Mind
... Kotaku review for me too (another reason to remove scoring system) - it made me read the review and the entire thing wasn't summarised into one sentence / paragraph...
Re: Poll: Do We Still Need Review Scores?
Re: Nintendo Switch Is Great for Variety in Gaming, Says PlayStation Exec
...best combo is PS4Pro for VR / exclusives and XB1X for cross-platform games / multiplayer... (and PC for those lovely indies)... I would get a Switch, but bought an Aim controller instead!
Re: Review: Firewall Zero Hour (PS4)
... played it all weekend, zero waiting in lobbies (always packed) - what an awesome game... woefully reviewed here... it deserves another 1-2 points added on... especially as one of the main issues was long wait times... (which if the review had been done over a week or so and with decent play times - this would have been seen as inaccurate) :/
Re: Spider-Man PS4's Puddle Drama Is An Absolute Embarrassment
... every Insomniac game has been burned, PS4 thrown out of the window, every pre-order cancelled - I'm only playing on my Panasonic 3DO and 'escape from monster manor' from now on... quality you can trust.
Re: Review: Firewall Zero Hour (PS4)
Re: Review: Firewall Zero Hour (PS4)
@get2sammyb ... when 90% of the PSVR games on here rock in at the 5/6 mark scoreline (Moss gets a '7' FFS), regardless of how many you review - the 1000-word limit and general PSVR apathy really isn't helping it much... what were the hours played on this? This review feels rushed to be one of the first out there to give it a 'meh' rating...
Re: Review: Death's Gambit (PS4)
..I think Salt & Sanctuary is still the one to beat (re: this kind of genre)
Re: Review: Firewall Zero Hour (PS4)
PSVR.. death by a thousand bad reviews... especially from this site...
Re: PSVR Passes Three Million Units Milestone
Re: PSVR Passes Three Million Units Milestone
Re: PSVR Passes Three Million Units Milestone
.. I think for a very niche technology, it's a brilliant adoption rate, let's hope they make PSVR 2.0 backwards compatible - it would be a crime to lose this catalogue with the inevitable update!
Re: PS4 Closes on PS3 As Shipments Cross 82.2 Million Units
@Neolit - there's always one isn't there?! rolls eyes
(neither of us have mentioned how the Wii trounced the competition when that was released!) - a little less pedantry and a few extra social skills go a long way!
Re: PS4 Closes on PS3 As Shipments Cross 82.2 Million Units
... it's weird, the console market has flip-flopped between XB and MS for as long as I can remember.. there's absolutely no doubt PS has won this generation...
(and my money is on both the PS5 and PSVR 2 being backwards compatible - just due to the huge success of both)
Re: Layoffs at Evolution Studios After Onrush Bombs
..the decline of the arcade racer for me came when Split/Second bombed (still to this day one of the most fun and original racers around..) after that and god-awful Blur - and the (failed) attempted revival of Twisted Metal... it's such a shame because (for me) it's still one of the most fun style of games you can buy...
Re: Review: The Crew 2 (PS4)
"No matter which event you’re taking part in, you’ll be up against ice-cold AI that will stay in your slipstream no matter how fast you go." THIS. Absolutely this. Killed the beta and kills any kind of fun you might have with the game. Such a shame because graphically it's a notch up from the last one.. OnRush is still a winner in my eyes (and on sale now - GET IT INSTEAD!)
Re: PS Plus Double Discounts Slash Prices on EU PlayStation Store
@Futureshark hella yeah! (I was like you, almost bought it at £25 a few weeks ago - this is too good to miss, and I've never completed it, so there's now the motivation to get as far as possible!)
Re: PS Plus Double Discounts Slash Prices on EU PlayStation Store
£15 for VR Skyrim... ABSOLUTE BARGAIN (downloading it as we speak!)
Re: Reminder: The Crew 2 Open Beta Begins Today on PS4
... I was in the closed beta, and the rubber-banding was simply horrid... looks nice though! The boats are particularly fun, but still, the beta made me buy OnRush instead! (and that's just INSANE fun!)
Re: Why Ninja Theory's Leaving PlayStation
I just don't understand this either / or mentality - surely most people on here have more than one console? :/ MS are lining themselves up to smash it out of the park next gen - with the likes of Playground being solely MS and offering games like Forza Horizon 4 FOR FREE (via Game Pass which is pretty much essential) so Spidey on one console, Horizon on another, etc. - and for those hardcore gamers - Zelda on Switch!
Re: E3 2018: Sony Builds the Hype with Snappy E3 Teaser Trailer
... as an XB1X and Pro/PSVR owner - this E3 is going to be really interesting!
