Re: Review: Onrush (PS4)

OneManDroid

@Nightcrawler71 I filled in the beta survey last night fully detailed that even though I was almost twice the level of opponents, they were never further than a second behind for the entire match - regardless of vehicle... completely ruining it, you have to have a perfect run every race regardless of level... pointless...

Re: Review: Onrush (PS4)

OneManDroid

...well, after purchasing Onrush and playing it a good couple of hours last night... I'm absolutely loving it! Really does remind me of the twitchy fun from Motorstorm with the recklessness of Burnout... a really refreshing TOTALLY NEW way of looking at car combat / racing games... and it plays like a dream... whack some 90's anthems in the background and it's like you're transported to a time when fun was the main aim, and not exhaustive content. Plenty of single-player goodness and tonight I try online! (it's amazing, but whilst I'm playing this game I'm constantly grinning, it just has that effect!) and GAME are selling it for £39.99 - perfect price point for this..

***EDIT - online is awesome, lag-free, it's seamless - you can go from SP to MP and you wouldn't even realise... the netcode is THAT good...

Re: Review: Onrush (PS4)

OneManDroid

@Nightcrawler71 I would be wary of TC2 - rubberbanding in all events killed it for me (I'd upgraded to be at least 1.5x better than the boats, etc. and they were still only a fraction behind me the entire race, so one mistake and they nip past you in the last second)... why don't they realise that this doesn't make it fun / competitive, it just makes it cheap / frustrating...

Re: Review: Onrush (PS4)

OneManDroid

..definitely, definitely on my radar, and especially after the disappointing Crew 2 beta (that rubberbanding has to be seen to be believed - shocking) and plain, old boring-looking Gravel... but I think the price-point should have been £40 - it's not AAA by any stretch and it would have tempted a lot more players... I worry about the longevity of titles like this that are fairly niche and rely so heavily on online players... :/

Re: Review: CoolPaintrVR (PS4)

OneManDroid

... I assume in-game extras will appear (at a price) - more brushes, colours, textures, etc. not putting enough in the base game = wait for at least 50% price drop... it's silly really, if they made the effort up-front they'd get more buy-in (literally!)

@get2sammyb - what about sharing options? there was talk of being able to send your creations via message / email(?) but not actually in-game to other people to view / amend - anything on this?

Re: Review: Home Run Derby VR (PS4)

OneManDroid

.. more overpriced, two-hour shovelware... :S We really shouldn't be seeing this kind of thing a year on... it's a good job Monster of the Deep is less than half-price at the moment (currently downloading!)... every cloud...

Re: Review: Island Time VR (PS4)

OneManDroid

..over a year on and it's unfortunate to see ridiculously short cash-grabs like this still in production... :/ until the the VR community stop saying "1 - 4 hours is acceptable" nothing will change...

Re: Spyro the Dragon PS4 Announcement Looks Set to Hatch

OneManDroid

... yeahhhh, sorry to be a party-pooper, but games like this have aged REALLY badly... take a look at Yooka Laylee for proof... I loved Spyro as a kid - it was new / fresh / really well done... 20 years on? Nahhhh, I'll stick with the memories... and modern games... and trying to survive those balls on Mars...

Re: PlayStation VR Becomes Even More Affordable as Sony Cuts Prices

OneManDroid

.. what's really good about this deal is that now it's just over a year old, a lot of the first wave of games are massively reduced in price... and games like Thumper, RE7, Batman, Dirt Rally, etc. are super-cheap (and are just brilliant) - and of course you've had several freebies courtesy of PS+... no better time to get into it... sure it's pricey, but I'd still buy this again over a Switch... and it'd still work out massively cheaper... (and you can play it without a TV screen, so think of the possibilities there! No more arguing over who watches what!)

Yes, it's an investment... but it's been the biggest leap in gaming I've played in decades.. playing the demo of Star Child last night and Moss - two more absolute WOW moments... it never ceases to amaze just how immersive VR is, even with the current technical limitations... Statik makes you believe you're sat in a lab with this box attached to your hands, and the way you can twist it and look around it and interact with it - it's simply impossible to replicate on a TV... make no mistake, VR is absolutely the future of gaming...

Re: Onrush Isn't Quite the PS4 Arcade Racer You're Expecting

OneManDroid

@get2sammyb well let's hope you let someone else review it eh, or else it won't stand a chance! it looks like an mega-amazing takedown / stunt extravaganza and a breath of fresh air after so many recently released racers (from Horizon 3 to GTS to Project Cars 2 and the million rally games out there). It actually reminds me of Road Redemption recently on PC (and that was CRAZY fun) think more Road Rage and less Motorstorm! (or maybe we'd all like another 'Gravel' - because that's original!)

Re: Onrush Isn't Quite the PS4 Arcade Racer You're Expecting

OneManDroid

.. I just love people negging a game before they've even tried it... it's from a really talented team (who have great form) who are trying something a bit different... let's at least play a demo before calling it out?!?! Split/Second's premise sounded a bit iffy on paper and that still remains an original, outstanding little racer (a lick of paint and I'd play it all over again!)

Re: Star Wars Battlefront 2 Revamps Entire Progression System Amid Controversy

OneManDroid

...I still log in daily to get my loot crates and do the daily challenges... it's still great fun... I'd better use all my crafting material this weekend (I've been saving it all for a rainy day) to unlock a shedload of cards then before it goes live! It's still immense, mindless fun... and the crate fiasco hasn't really impeded progression... it's just made it less focused...

Re: Review: Surviving Mars (PS4)

OneManDroid

... spent all evening on it... it's ridiculously good (especially good-looking on XB1X, so I assume it'll be just as nice on Pro) - although some have complained that on standard XB / PS4 it looks a bit rough... tutorials are merely suggestions on buildings (which is fine) - because I spent most of the night figuring out what did what, what I needed, what did / didn't work and it was just brilliant... and that's before the 'mysteries' even occurred (I must have restarted about 5 times) and every time I learned a bit more (and that's half of the fun of builders.. discovering what works for you)... highly recommended (would definitely give it an 8/10!)

Re: Burnout Paradise Remastered More Than a Mere Port

OneManDroid

... unless they did the whole "shadow of the colossus" remake - it was always going to look old.. it's a decade old! Racing games age particularly badly too (as so much is focused on speed / visuals) - I remember LOVING split/second when it came out (and being impressed by visuals) - it's free on XBG this month and it's aged REALLY badly... rose-tinted glasses remember!

Re: New Burnout Paradise Remastered Trailer Heightens the Hype Ahead of Launch

OneManDroid

...yeah, been playing this over the weekend as part of EA early access (free 10 hours) - yes, it's the BP we all remember, but it does look (and feel) dated though... nice to have the extra island and bikes... it's an incredibly lazy effort though (port-wise) - still handles magnificently... it definitely shows that the NFS franchise needs to go back to basics (no story, smaller playable area and more 'racing' less 'fluff') extra 10% too with EA pass, so I'll no doubt pick it up for a fun little race around...

Re: Forced PlayStation Now Ad Causes a Stir on PS4

OneManDroid

... let's hope this isn't the start of the decline of PS now that Kaz isn't at the helm... this is how it started with the 360... the removal of their weekly shows, and original experiences like 1 vs 100 (which was amazing), and the slow creep of adverts onto the dashboard cluttering everything... this coupled with the 25% price hike and Vita / PS3 game drops on PS+, it feels like a little bit of history repeating... :/ (especially as the service is a rip-off too...) I thought (foolishly) they might have integrated it into PS+, to give consumers a bit more for their money...

Re: PS Plus Members Will Get Two Games Per Month from March 2019

OneManDroid

... it's a shame... first the 25% price hike and now this... it'll be interesting to see the landscape once Kaz leaves... Sony won this generation by a country mile... if they keep going like this though I wouldn't be surprised if Xbox leapfrogs them next gen... XB1X and Game Pass is already far better value now (and Gold is still the same price) - coupled with the fact they've dropped all the TVTVTV and Kinect nonsense... Sony's going to lose more and more support if they don't actually start giving people more for their money instead of continually less and less... :/

(and of course who hasn't already played / bought Bloodborne & Clank - so effectively you're getting nothing this month... and the danger is that the fewer games they provide the more chance you've already played / bought them... so you're getting zero added value...)

Re: Review: Metal Gear Survive (PS4)

OneManDroid

@brutalpanda well then you've clearly not read anything I've said... :/ (you know, the part about me saying I'll be buying this game and I've got nothing against Konami..) yeah, that'd be the nickpicking part then...

Re: Review: Metal Gear Survive (PS4)

OneManDroid

@get2sammyb I can't believe how a game (arguably) built around micro-transactions (inventory slot, extra save, daily boosts, emotes, resources, £40 for 6000 in-game credits, etc.) doesn't 'ruin the flow' of playing (they inevitably do, as grinds are grindier, resources scarcer, and progression slower as a result). This is a classic MxT - based gaming along the likes of Fortnite PVW mode.

To ignore this entire aspect of the game / game economy TOTALLY (no mention good or bad) - is just ridiculous. And just because MxTs are now seemingly the norm, doesn't mean a) they're fine and shouldn't be decried and b) they should totally be air-brushed from a review. It's completely and utterly misleading to the reader (and really bad journalism).

Like I've said, I've got nothing again Konami, enjoyed the beta, and always take review scores with a mahoosive pinch of salt. But the day gaming sites completely ignore MxTs and skew reviews in such a blatant way like this on a regular basis is the day I stop visiting them.

Re: Review: Metal Gear Survive (PS4)

OneManDroid

@LiamCroft - fair play for defending your review and mentioning micro-transactions in the comments (why didn't you say any of this in your review?!?!?!) the fact you don't mention micro-transactions ONCE in the review implies they don't exist, it's like you photo-shopped them out completely... I guess it just highlights a lack of balance (and experience) in reviewing that's all - hopefully your reviews will improve over time?

I would recommend adding in your micro-transactions comments into the review near the end - it will add balance and it will show that you're acknowledging their presence, whilst telling people that they're not in your face (apart from being the first thing you see in the main menu).

I just can't believe given the level of microtransactions - ranging from paying for an additional save slot - to paying for more inventory storage (which I reckon you'll definitely need later on) has zero impact on the game (and if you look at some of the screenshots, re: gestures, etc. - microtransactions are all over the place). I can't imagine it doesn't push you to buy daily boosts either... I play Fortnite PVE and late-game you really start to run out of resources and it absolutely pushes you to buy extra resources - I find it impossible to believe MGS hasn't been created with this very thing in mind - limiting resources, XP, etc. in order to coax you to buy more... but the fact that micro-transactions aren't acknowledged in your review means we'll never know... (or they don't exist)

Re: Review: Metal Gear Survive (PS4)

OneManDroid

@BAMozzy - totes agree with you, but if you don't have a problem with micro-transactions in a game, then surely you have to at the very least state that they exist and that they don't in any way affect the gameplay (which I'm going to be honest, I'm not sure that's a true statement)... I'm Konami-neutral, I enjoyed the beta of this game and will probably pick it up at some point (price drop) - but to completely ignore such a large part of the set-up of a game like this is bordering on negligence - the gaming press need to at the very least acknowledge this poor practice (to air-brush it like this shows a complete lack of reviewing experience...)

Re: Review: Metal Gear Survive (PS4)

OneManDroid

..not a single mention of the pervasive micro-transaction system?!? oooooh, now that's a baaaaad review... that says to me "I'm pretending this aspect doesn't exist, purposely omitting it and then basing my score completely on a very skewed view of the game"... it's virtually misleading readers.. how can any site ignore micro-transactions on this scale in a game review? that's not good for the integrity of this site, potential game-purchasers or indeed review readers... this is a massive misstep from Push Square... and really this review should be removed and re-done to reflect this... (of course it won't though...)

Re: Burnout Paradise Remastered Finally Confirmed, First Footage and Screenshots Revealed

OneManDroid

..it was the first game I think I ever platinum-ed on the PS... absolutely loved it! I have such fond memories of it... I'm not sure they're rose-tinted though... After recently getting into (and being blown away by) Horizon 3 in 4K on the XB1X... I don't think I need to step back in time... not until it's about £20 at least... coupled with Forza 7 (and GT Sport I haven't even touched yet, not even tried the VR aspect yet) - it can wait... maybe best left as one of my favourite racing game memories... (alongside the original NFS on the 3DO)

Re: PS4 Trophies Show 67% of Players Have Stuck with Monster Hunter: World into High Rank

OneManDroid

... yeah, I'm 140ish hours in... pretty much done most of it (possibly hitting the wall now) - but it's been SO good and it's still addictive creating those sets and going for the real crazy weapons that require super-rare drops (Teostra's chest mail - I'm looking at you) and Val's fangs - they're like gold dust! But it's been so awesome - a game done right, zero microtransactions, and a grind that is actually good and built-in to the progression... and a guaranteed purchase of any future DLC from me! I think it's going to be tough to be as GOTY for me... and that's before Spidey, etc. (and I did my first well-done steak last night (135 hours in!) - and I'd completely forgotten / missed gathering hub arenas / challenges... still plenty to keep me going!)

Re: Star Wars Battlefront 2 Progression System Will Receive an Overhaul

OneManDroid

... my issue is the revamp of the progression system - once you've won / crafted the cards you want (most of us have now I suspect) - there really isn't any more 'progression' - it's just 'git gud' (learn tactics and maps and things...) it's kind of like trying to shut the barn door after the horse has bolted... maybe they can learn things for BF3 re: progression, but any overhaul now won't impact anyone bar new players (maybe that's who they're aiming it for?)

Re: Sony Granting Refunds to The Crew 2 PS4 Pre-Orders Following Delay

OneManDroid

... I really enjoyed The Crew... it was possibly a little over-ambitious, but after the massive graphics overhaul patch, etc. it looked pretty impressive (I mean, after recently playing 4K Horizon 3, maybe not) - but this new one certainly looks fun.. and who doesn't want their car to turn into a speedboat a la Spyhunter??! (cue funky music)

Re: Review: Dragon Ball FighterZ (PS4)

OneManDroid

.. after playing the beta, I couldn't fault the presentation, etc.... but playing it, it felt wayyyy too similar to MvC3 for my liking... (the auto juggle up, one button combo, etc.) ultimately more satisfying but possibly a bit too shallow in the actual combo long-term / gameplay department...

Re: Will Twisted Metal Ever Come to the PS4?

OneManDroid

..I remember LOVING TMB (getting hit by that fairground wheel and ploughing through people as a massive truck!) - but I think games and tastes change over time... you've had a few attempts like Hardware Rivals (F2P), etc. and although there's some fun in them, gameplay feels a bit dated now (I think it's the lack of control / precision for me) - there's that other mad-max style one that's F2P too, again, all very serviceable, but maybe (maybe) people want more or at least something new added on... :/
