Re: Review in Progress: Marathon (PS5) - Bungie's Extraction Shooter Is Brilliant, and It Only Gets Better

Northern_munkey

@HonestHick I can see the issues marathon has and I'm not going to stand up and applaud it as the perfect game..the GOAT because its not but their are fair critiques being made here and there are toxic comments being made too by gamers who had no intention of playing it or buying it. There are loads of games that just are not for me but I'm not in the comments section running them down or the players enjoying them. I'm never going to get with the whole hate brigade as it's just too much energy wasted. You are not daft and you know the point I'm making here and I'm not falling out with you. I just expected a better spin and not one that had a level of jeering that's just not you.

Re: 'We're Discussing Ways to Improve': Marathon Dev Tweaking Monetisation and Difficulty as FPS Fails to Blow Up

Northern_munkey

Marathon is not too difficult at all. It's about right. You can't go in all guns blazing because you aggro everything that wants to kill you. The AI is just as aggressive as Arc raiders. The amount of ammo you get in the sponsored "free" load outs is ample as you also get a ammo crate too. Health and shield supplies are all over the place so the argument about lack of ammo etc is ridiculous. I can see the issue with the skins and the pricing but it's not something that bothers me as I don't really use them and if I do they are obtained with the silk I get from playing the game. The rook shell is specifically there for looting and resupplying runs (you can't complete contracts or squad up using it) so use that to replenish your items. As for the risk of losing your gear..use the free load outs. Losing your gear is all part and parcel of this game. The UI still needs work but other than that marathon is a brilliant game if you enjoy these type of games and just like Arrowhead and Embark studios Bungie appears to be listening to feedback.

Re: Marathon PS5 User Reviews Remarkably Positive After String of Live Service Disasters

@Bob_Tempura cheers. Marathon is not perfect as it still needs work. The UI really needs some overhauling. The ping system needs some work as it's hard to see sometimes and there are a few little gripes that whilst not game breaking need tweaking. I'm not going to stand here and say Marathon is the greatest game on the planet but its 100 % nowhere near as bad as the haters will have anybody believe. For me personally at this moment I'll give it a 7/10 which I feel is fair. The main thing that I hear from friends and random players is that the audio by far is some of the best we've ever heard in a game. You know exactly where the AI is or other gamers are. It really does have superb audio.

Re: Artist Embroiled in Marathon Art Theft Scandal Credited as Visual Design Consultant

Northern_munkey

@dskatter so what was the bare minimum? I bet it was a pretty penny in all honesty plus I bet if there is ever another marathon game the artist in question will be working on that. There is probably some decent exposure for the artist too which will hopefully lead to more work in the future outside of bungie that requires her skills in her chosen medium. I think she will do rather nicely out of this.

@KundaliniRising333 Arc raiders has in game content you can purchase. OK maybe using Arc raiders as an example was wrong but you get my point. As for the rest of your comment don't try and make me out to be somebody you know full well I'm not. I'm always honest with you and voice my opinions and we've grown to have a mutual respect for each other even when we don't see eye to eye..low blow brother 👍

Re: Marathon PS5 User Reviews Remarkably Positive After String of Live Service Disasters

Northern_munkey

@KundaliniRising333 the battle pass and monetisation are the same as every other live service game. Arc raiders,BF6,COD you name it they all have the same business model but here's the kicker..you don't have to buy them. I never do and it dosnt ruin my experience. I'm actually surprised you enjoy Arc raiders as much as you do seeing as it employs the scummy monetisation ethics you so despise. Maybe it's just because it's bungie?

Re: Marathon PS5 User Reviews Remarkably Positive After String of Live Service Disasters

Northern_munkey

@KingPev I can't make that decision for you. Its a tough game and it's confusing at first but once you get used to the clunky UI you start to really enjoy it. I'll bet my left testicle that the majority of the neggers here either haven't played it (their input is null invoid) or they played an hour or so in the server slam so they can justify being so damn negative about it. I hope you enjoy it as much as we are if you do decide to purchase it.

Re: Site News: Where's Our Marathon PS5 Review?

Northern_munkey

Those of us that were waiting for marathon eagerly already knew that we would enjoy it. The server slam last weekend just further cemented it for me and this week has been long waiting for it patiently. I can understand that people don't like it and I can respect their opinions. However there are some who are formulating some very toxic comments and showing a complete lack of respect for their fellow gamers. Accusing people who like the game and say so of "toxic positivity" whilst showing nothing but utter contempt towards bungie and gamers is pretty low and I'm surprised pushsquare are allowing this discourse to take place when they will happily edit lesser comments. Why can't you guys just be happy people are enjoying themselves with marathon instead of being utter cretins? As for a review? Take your time as it's a steep learning curve and the games mechanics are surprisingly deep and intricate. It's certainly not for the casual gamer and requires a lot of patience as @Sanquine will attest to if his final outburst was anything to go by last night 🤣.
