Japanese dev PiXEL describes Angelian Trigger as a “pseudo 3D style” shooter inspired by games from “the past”. It means Space Harrier, of course!

This game is actually already available on the Switch in Japan, but only supports the Japanese language. It’s unclear whether that will change with its upcoming PS5 port, due out at some point in 2027.

Either way, I’d love to see this game get localised by a Western publisher, because if you watch the trailer below, you’ll see how closely it resembles Yu Suzuki’s arcade masterpiece.

The blurb on Steam, translated by Gematsu, says there are 24 stages across Story Mode and Arcade Mode. Each level ends with a boss, while the two playable characters have different combat arsenals.

“This is a completely new IP game that gives you a sense of speed and exhilaration with features such as homing lasers that can be used to lock on to multiple enemies and additional points for defeating groups of enemies,” the blurb reads.

I’ve always been an enormous fan of the Space Harrier games, so I think I’d definitely give this a go.

How about you? Can we drum up some enthusiasm here for a Western release?
