In case you weren't aware, there's a hate campaign against God of War Laufey, from people who think the main character isn't attractive enough.

It's been going on since the game's unveiling earlier this year; amid the excitement for the upcoming action adventure, I've seen complaints about the character model, despite the extremely close resemblance to Deborah Ann Woll, who plays the role in both voice and performance capture.

It's sparked up again following the announcement of pre-order information and special editions for Laufey. The people upset about Faye's appearance are now bemoaning a pair of in-game armour sets for the character, one of which is a pre-order bonus while the other comes with the Digital Deluxe edition.

In an unexpected twist, Vincent D'Onofrio — known for playing Kingpin in Daredevil and other Marvel shows — has stepped in to defend Woll from the noise.

X user 'Geralt of Goonia' says developer Santa Monica Studio has chosen "feminism over their jobs", stating the team would "rather go bankrupt than give you an ounce of female attractiveness" and calling for a boycott.

D'Onofrio, who acts alongside Woll in the aforementioned TV series, defends her in response.

"Not that you asked, but... In no way do I agree with you," he writes.

"Deborah is beautiful and extremely talented. She is as smart as [a] whip and a complete nerd. Also incredibly kind. How perfect she is! And a good friend. I am a fan of God of War. I, for one, cannot wait to play the new game with my son."

As mentioned, online hatred for God of War Laufey began almost immediately; not only do some take issue with the character's appearance, but some object to the idea of playing as Kratos' late partner rather than the Ghost of Sparta himself.

Whether you feel this way or not, Woll has previously said she's "totally unbothered" by the complaints because she's so confident in the game.

Unfortunately, it seems D'Onofrio's words haven't had much of an impact on Geralt of Goonia, who has posted several more times on the topic.
