It's kind of wild to think about, but it's true: Star Wars: Galactic Racer is the highest-rated game in the sci-fi series since 2003's Knights of the Old Republic.

With a Metascore of 88, it outdoes other recent games that share the universe, such as Star Wars Zero Company and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.

That's a pretty impressive feat for developer Fuse Games; Galactic Racer is the team's debut release, and it couldn't really have gone much better.

The game is out now on PS5, and per our review, it's one that comes highly recommended for arcade racer fans.

We've called it a "thoughtfully designed triumph" in our 9/10 review, praising the game's "excellent" handling, "eye-popping" presentation, and inventive campaign with its roguelite twist.

You needn't just take our word for it, though, as there are many other critics that feel similarly. Here's what some other sites are saying:

VGC (5/5) - "A thrilling throwback to a better time for racing games"

"Star Wars: Galactic Racer absolutely nails what it is trying to do. It is a high-octane racer that's endless fun to play, and it looks fantastic. This would have been a great game with a standard single-player mode, but what is here is inventive and engaging. I'd have loved a few silly classic characters and another planet or two, but this is a game I'll return to for a long time."

Eurogamer (5/5) - "Has that ceaseless full-ahead pelt that Burnout offers"

"It's new games, with Roguelite choices and endless unlockables, and it's also old games, with cruel and ingenious courses where everything can be lost in an instant. It's a Galaxy Far, Far Away, and it's also Paradise City."

GameSpot (9/10) - "I never would have guessed that putting roguelike elements into a racer would create a winning formula"

"Every moment feels joyfully fast. Every decision carries the weight of tension. And every run is a rewarding chance to learn, improve, tinker, and adapt, whether it ends in success or failure. I can’t wait to keep playing what’s been my favorite racing game in years."

Game Informer (8.5/10) - "Enthralling, challenging, and hard to put down"

"Galactic Racer is a Star Wars game, and that might be enough for some, but not for me. Fortunately, it’s an even better racing game, one filled to the brim with courses, vehicle builds, and characters that keep me coming back to the track for one more race."

GamesRadar (4/5) - "Galactic Racer has some serious sauce"

"Star Wars: Galactic Racer brings the carnage-filled arcade racing of the 2000s into the modern day, with slick and exhilarating high-speed racing that mixes perfectly with a run-based format and roguelike elements."
