I got the impression that ND wanted this to be an MMO type deal, with a huge world, very dense. Many who've played Naughty Dog's multiplayers would have been happy to see maps, made from the levels you play in the game, just like Uncharted and TLOU MPs. ND should go back to basics and just keep their core great gameplay, MP like Uncharted 4, but without the outlandish perks. Brutal Melee and gun combat, maybe with some infected hoard gameplay and great cover mechanics.
I think many would have loved a huge world set in the TLOU universe, with regular expansions too that, but the lack of getting a new IP like the rumoured High Fantasy title or Savage Starlight or maybe something out of left field like bringing back Jak and Daxter with a remake or new entry with more realism would have rubbed the rest of Naughty Dog's fans up the wrong way, people are already saying TLOU is all ND makes and remasters of their old games.
Personally I'd love to see ND make a Jak and Daxter remake, at least some studio could make use of the IP. I'm excited to see what the studio comes up with next, hopefully a Science Fiction, futuristic style game, with TLOU brutal combat and Uncharted style exploration would be great IMO.
It seems very likely that Microsoft will come out and announce select games will come to previously rival platforms, most likely focusing on Hifi Rush first, Sea of Thieves, then Starfield and others.
They'll try to make it seem like they're giving to the industry, when all but Sea of Thieves would have been on PlayStation and potentially Nintendo of the ZeniMax Acquisition hadn't happened.
Long term I doubt XBox will stop having hardware, but rather will integrate more with PC, have Windows Gaming more baked in, to consolise the experience, but also make PC more accessible to gamers.
I said it ages ago and it makes perfect sense for them to keep this side of the equation, while opening up the games to a "new" audience.
I also think making a handheld and a VR/AR device would be a good call for Microsoft, to capitalize on those markets.
Something akin to Apple Vision Pro, but more affordable, with good specs and a device like Rog Ally or Lenovo Legion Go at an affordable price around £400 would be great.
They need to also make an adapter for storage expansion on Series consoles, along with making versions of their controllers officially available for PlayStation and Nintendo.
I said this would happen when ZeniMax were bought by Microsoft, they will become a third party publisher, that still sells their own branded hardware, so they still get to say they release console hardware, also launch their own handheld that can stream and run scaled down versions of their games and multiplats, maybe a rebranded Rig Ally or Lenovo Legion Go, for a more affordable price.
At least putting games that would have been multiplats releasing on PlayStation and the next Nintendo system, but if Sea of Thieves is coming, there is no reason to think that Gears, Halo and Forza wouldn't get a PlayStation and Nintendo version.
Gamepass seems unlikely to get a version that is allowed on rival platforms, but individual, full price, digital only on the PS Store and eShop makes sense.
Gamepass is probably enough of an "exclusive" thing to keep existing Xbox fans on that platform, especially if they prefer the ecosystem, but times exclusivety of 6 months plus on major titles like Indie, Gears 6, Forza Horizon 2025 makes sense too, especially when the Xbox fans have had their fill.
No reason for Microsoft to leave billions in profit off of the table and they can then tell shareholders they have captured the entire gaming market.
Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West are so good, hopefully we get a 3rd game that is PS5 and up in terms of hardware.
I'd love to see what the studio would do if they went back to Killzone, the growth of their skills as Devs could make a killer new entry in the series or maybe a remake of the first game.
I'd love to see a new IP or perhaps another style of game done in the Horizon universe. A prequel to Horizon, set in the Old Ones time would be great.
@KippDynamite $69.99 converted to GBP is £49.44, for the most part the majority of states in America charge no more than 8% for goods, so we shouldn't be paying any more than £53.99 for a new game going by converting the cost from USD to GBP and adding a max of 8% for tax.
Even if you say VAT of 20% should be added to the USD converted to GBP that's under £59.99. That added £10 on top makes no sense, other than Sony looking at it like Dollars and Pounds are the same thing, which is completely wrong.
Looking at the GBP to AUD prices, we're paying the equivalent of $127.58, it's disgusting. Returnal costs 99.51 AUD, that's £54.43, here in the UK we shouldn't be paying more than that.
It's an amazing controller IMO, the recent update for Spiderman Remastered added so much more immersion to the experience of playing that game with the DualSense features. For me it's also the most comfortable controller I've ever heald in my hands and gamed on for hours in a single sitting.
Just thought I would provide an update on the PSVR PS5 adapter, I got mine through my letter box today, it came in a Cardboard Envelope, with instructions and the actual adapter was in a clear plastic bag inside. My PS5 was available for me to collect from my local Post Office last Thursday, awesome machine.
I haven't hooked up my VR Headset to my PS5 so hopefully the adapter works, but I thought it was good to update this comment thread that the units are real and Sony have been sending them out.
Hope many have gotten theirs like me and are having fun with their PS5's.
I can't hear anything like that on my PS5, my Bluray Drive has noise when I'm installing games, but the fan and PSU make no noise that I can hear unless I put my ear right next to the system and even then I can't hear that unless my surround or TV isn't making any noise. My PS5 is standing vertically and in an area with loads of space.
As others have said I had to check the fan of the console was actually working by putting my hand near the vents, but I wouldn't call the air coming out of it much hotter than room temperature, the system is also very cool too the touch. Playing Demon's Souls in performance mode is gorgeous, I can't even really tell the difference between fidelity or performance mode. I have a few games and none of them have made the system loud or have coil whine.
@SoulChimera Sorry to hear that SoulChimera, I wonder if Sony are doing them in batches and based on when people applied for the adapter to be sent out.
BTW I ordered my Disc Model PS5 through Very, apparently it was Despatched from the Supplier at 2:45pm so I'm hoping it gets to my pickup point tomorrow. At least I know I should be getting my system and I was allocated a console for launch.
Maybe message the customer service department and ask them what's happening with the adapters.
@madcow78 I'm in the UK, requested mine as the page went live and received the same message as you, haven't got a further reply or the adaptor yet.
My guess is that if Sony have sent customer's units out a few days before the PS5 hardware launch in the USA, then they'll potentially be doing the same in the UK, so maybe sometime next week we'll get our units too.
@NEStalgia in the UK we're going from getting £49.99 to £54.99 base prices for the standard edition, to now seeing £69.99 beginning to become the standard price. I think Sony are likely testing the waters, if enough people diliberate over paying that launch day cost then maybe they'll ease off a bit. TBH they have been getting big quantities of sales, at that launch price of £50 here and the same dollar figure in America, I doubt they will see the same initial numbers at launch.
I guess with the Digital Model they're going to have people forced to buy through PSN, which is obviously what they wanted, those people can't buy used from the brick stores, so of they're not content to pay that same £70/$70 price on PSN then they'll wait for the sales. I'm glad I got the Disc model, because it gives me more choice on where to buy, I hardly ever buy digital, unless it's a sale that's well below any physical copy, plus I sub to Plus for the IGC.
That is a generally good idea, personally with the launch titles I want like Demon's Souls Remake, Spidey (yes I'm getting the Ultimate one as I didn't get the DLC for the 2018 game and it's meant to be overhauled), Sackboy also peaks my interest.
I need to know more about Destruction All-Stars. Fortunately Cyberpunk is still a PS4 release that is the same launch price and it has the upgrades included on PS5 for no extra charge.
Once we get PS5's launch out of the way I'll probably wait out for the major titles to drop because I do think £70 for a game is pretty ridiculous, especially given how many copies of the big hitters will sell. Sony will easily sell 10 million copies of the next God of War, Horizon etc, at the old prices they're making a boatload of profit per game. It will of course depend on whether they hold out launching big AAA titles at those prices, if they drop down a tenner or so then I'd probably get more games, but out of principle and knowing that in a couple of weeks or even months they drop down to at least £30. Considering how exchange rates place the UKs price points vs America or Canada or wherever else we are getting the short end of the deal. Digital games are massively over inflated, considering Sony makes so much more per game on the PS Store, which is why I ordered the Disc PS5.
@East76landS me too, I recently got a 15% off code and luckily enough they let me use it on my Disc PS5 so it was only £382.50. I've been waiting to order my games on there, three was only Fortnite and NBA2K21 on there when I ordered my PS5.
Gotta play that sweet Demon's Souls and Spider-Man Miles Morales on the 19th. I also know my order went through properly as I got an email with the full information, along with my Pre-Order for the Mafia Trilogy and I ordered a copy of 3D Mario All Stars, which arrived at my collection place today. There was still stock of both models when I timed out and the website was very stable. Think I went away from the site about 10 minutes after I'd put my order through, checked when I came back and one had sold out, a few minutes later they were done and over 22,000 people were looking at them, hundreds had been sold when I started looking, god knows how many Very were allocated and sold through.
I think this game is a bigger deal than many may think, it's been a good 4 years since the last game and it's the first new entry since Into The Nexus, which was a smaller title compared to the earlier PS3 entries.
Most likely the game is an early 2021 release. It's possible Sackboy's Big Adventure could be a launch game or maybe Demon's Souls, along with Spidey. I want all of the above regardless anyway, interested to see more of Returnal too, I think it's Housemarque's first proper AAA game.
I wonder if the Female Lombax will be playable with Clank for a portion of the game and hopefully the Rift jumping will allow you to move to other worlds and see parts of bigger game worlds than we've seen in a R&C game before. It looks so gorgeous and fun, can't wait to see this new extended trailer.
I'm just waiting to pre-order mine, hope I can get one at launch, it all depends on launch stock availability.
I really want Spider-Man, glad it comes with Astro pre-installed too. I can't wait to hear what this rumoured 1st party secret launch game could be (assuming the rumours are real).
@MarcG420 isn't Farcry usually a PlayStation marketing deal?
I suspect we could see Dead Rising 5, which may have a timed exclusive deal. Perhaps a new Tomb Raider, since it's been a while since Shadow. New gameplay for Overwatch 2 on next gen consoles, maybe a bunch of games that will get patches for next gen that are already out.
Mainly I'm hoping for Microsoft Studios games and surprises.
It's great to have options, Insomniac have been great at having stable frame rates with unwavering paving, if they're pushing for a 60FPS mode then they are likely shooting for a making a solid experience. The Zen 2 CPU architecture means there's plenty of performance there.
I'm thinking 4K 30FPS with graphics pushed, maybe half Res or Dynamic Res, next gen Temporal Injection tech, running at 60FPS locked. RT could be at full Res in 4K 30FPS mode, but scaled back by half or using more TI in the 60FPS mode.
It was poor IMO, I think Watch Dogs Legion looks good, same for Assassin's Creed Valhalla, but besides the John Wick style gunplay that looks fun nothing really blew me away.
Ubisoft may as well have just waited to say anything about Farcry 6, no gameplay or at least in engine real time footage of what the game will look like.
Nothing of Gods & Monsters, no major new announcements and Skull & Bones was once again nowhere to be seen.
Ubiaoft should have left ACV and their new MP game for this event and they would have had something that makes sense to have an event for.
There was no point holding back stuff for another event, especially to avoid showing Farcry 6 gameplay, even a short thing would have been something.
Very poor event IMO.
The PS5 reveal event is the best thing this year, this blew.
In the UK I've noticed that our prices have gone from £49.99 ($63.08) for new AAA games to pre-ordering games at £54.99 ($69.39). These aren't even PS5 or Series X games, they're PS4 games, like Cyberpunk or other major coming AAA full releases.
I usually wait for sales, may get Cyberpunk, but I'm considering waiting if it would send a message that customers think it's unreasonable.
If games sell many millions of units at £49.99/$59.99, then devs and publishers are making ample returns on their investments. At higher prices they will likely end up dropping them in price sooner because sales numbers are going to plateau much sooner than if they just kept launch prices lower.
This game had me from when Sucker Punch showed that first glorious trailer! The recent gameplay looks amazing and the atmosphere that they're putting into that world seems so authentic.
I've played about 7 hours of The Last of Us Part 2 and it's phenomenal IMO, quite amazing that Sony have supported such a breadth of quality content, god only knows what Media Molecule or Pixel Opus are going to put out next gen. The thought of Horizon Forbidden West and the next God of War or whatever Santa Monica Studio releases first on PS5 blows my mind.
I also can't wait for Playground Games to show their new non-racing game and on Switch the likes of Zelda BoTW2 or Metroid Prime 4.
This hobby gives me so much joy. Happy times gamers.
I've had mine pre-ordered for a while, got it delivered to a local convenience store and missed getting there before they shut.
I'll pick it up tomorrow, despite the stories I'm still hyped for the game, especially given the mechanics that Naughty Dog have out into the game. Got Ghost of Tsushima pre-ordered too, both games look awesome, I can't wait to play both.
@Anti-Matter I'm hoping the DualSense design gives us a hint of what it looks like. Hoping the lighting around the touch pad hints at that cool looking intake for air on the dev kit.
If Sony refines the design similar to the DS it could look really nice. The dynamic clocks based on boosting for the demanding workloads would certainly help Sony keep the form factor in check.
I think the game was too close to Souls in it's style and Capcom wanted to make something that could stand out on it's own, so they turned their attention to the Resident Evil games and Monster Hunter World to get something more unique out.
Now with Bloodborne getting such critical acclaim, Nioh (1&2) and Dark Souls 3 fitting that part of the genre so well Deep Down wouldn't have been as well received as Capcom would have wanted.
@wotsinaname Mark Cerny already confirmed PS5 can hit full clock speeds on both the CPU and GPU simultaneously, it drops clocks when code isn't demanding.
BTW the way PS5 is designed it has more CPU resources available for devs, basically a full CPU Core's worth, even with slightly lower clocks than XSX devs have more available to them.
The RAM setup is much better in PS5 too, along with the SSD being an order of magnitude faster and far more easily accessible.
RAM alone will make it hard for developers to take advantage of XSX's bigger GPU, PS5's GPU will also be easier to take advantage of owing to it's faster speed and boosted components that don't scale when increasing CUs count.
The difference in TFlops is at most 10 to 12, but not in demanding scenes.
PS5 will also be able to use less RAM for OS because of the speed of it's SSD, it can shrink quickly when games don't demand it and give far more of the 16GBs all running at full speed when games need it.
It's very likely PS5 will have no issues running next gen games at full 4K 60FPS, in demanding games, but on rare occasions that may require a drop in resolution at most you'll see something like 1800p on PS5 to 2160p on XSX and then features like Radeon Image Sharpening will make the difference so that it's not even noticeable.
PS5 will also be able to render higher res textures quicker than Series X.
Your example makes no sense given the actual full picture of what both consoles have in the way of tech next gen.
@JJ2 Both the CPU and GPU have the power required in PS5's Power Supply to hit their full speed at the same time, but the reality is that games are dynamic in how calculations hit the hardware. Both the CPU and GPU likely peak at different times depending on the game, sometimes neither would, which has nothing to do with how the hardware works, it's all game and scenario dependent.
Reducing clocks when games and work doesn't require full speed then heat is going to be kept lower. The system should be kept cool because of the new design philosophy Sony are using in PS5
AMD confirmed at their recent conference that BOTH PS5 and XBox Series X are on track to launch this year. Judging by past console manufacturing cycles before launch the main processors don't go into full scale production until around summer time anyway and even though PS4 was unexpectedly upgraded from 4GBs to 8GBs of RAM just prior to reveal in Feb 2013 there was enough stock at launch in November for Sony to sell a couple of million units in the first 2 weeks.
Bare in mind also that Microsoft didn't announce the XB1 until May of 2013, yet they still had enough systems on shelves to cover the demand by gamers to fulfil sales requirements.
Thr current health crisis may be something to keep an eye on, but even regular Flu has more of a dire effect on the world than this new health issue does.
We're only in early March at this point, if the issues continued into the Summer then it will affect more than just one new games console, both consoles, smart phones and countless other products would either get delayed or have large scale supply shortages, but we aren't hearing that from the manufacturing industry on the whole.
Assembly needs to begin in August or September at the latest, we're months away from then. AMD would be singing a different tune to their investors if their sales of new RDNA2 APUs to Sony and MS were going to be affected and screw up their 2020 financial reports.
I can't wait, was there on launch night/morning with the PS4, shame I had slow broadband at the time as I had to work the next day. I'll all but certainly be pre-ordering a PS5 to get one at launch. This time I've got pretty good fibre speeds for the UK, with over 60mb/s on Sky at my new house.
I'm really excited to see if Rocksteady reveals their new DC game, if a new God of War gets announced, sequel to Horizon, maybe a new IP from Sony Japan. There are loads of possibilities for new games to up the ante, not just with the visuals, but physics and AI because of the new tech that will be a huge leap over what we've had this gen.
To think it's only a year away is really exciting to me as a gamer.
@jdv95 Sony will likely wait and announce the price at the proper PS5 reveal. They have a fair few months to do that, personally I'd pay £499 for this system, if not a bit more if the tech warrants it at launch.
The control tech and RT hardware, along with having a 3rd gen Zen CPU, will make for a great console. Sony's devs are going to make this thing sing for gamers.
There could be a point where Sony has to wait before getting the first game on their platform, unless MS OKs them doing so before that time.
There's nothing stopping Insomniac or another dev from making a new game in the franchise, which was always the case as they always owned the IP and were independent until Sony bought the studio.
Personally I hope Insomniac makes R&C2 Remake next or maybe a new Resistance, they likely have the resources to make both of those together, while devoting a big team to Spidey 2. This gen Insomniac have been massively productive, making 3 big AAA games, along with a bunch of VR and other smaller games.
If the studio expands further they could be in a position to deliver a lot of titles for PS5 and PSVR next gen.

Re: Poll: When Will You Buy a PS5?
I'm just waiting to pre-order mine, hope I can get one at launch, it all depends on launch stock availability.
I really want Spider-Man, glad it comes with Astro pre-installed too.
I can't wait to hear what this rumoured 1st party secret launch game could be (assuming the rumours are real).
Re: Expect More PS5 Game Announcements Today
@MarcG420 isn't Farcry usually a PlayStation marketing deal?
I suspect we could see Dead Rising 5, which may have a timed exclusive deal.
Perhaps a new Tomb Raider, since it's been a while since Shadow.
New gameplay for Overwatch 2 on next gen consoles, maybe a bunch of games that will get patches for next gen that are already out.
Mainly I'm hoping for Microsoft Studios games and surprises.
Re: Spider-Man Miles Morales Can Run at 4K, 60FPS on PS5 with Optional Performance Mode
Re: Talking Point: Did Ubisoft Forward Meet Your Expectations?
Re: Poll: Would You Pay $70 for a Brand New PS5 Game?
Re: Ghost of Tsushima Goes Gold Ahead of July Release Date
Re: Poll: Did You Buy The Last of Us 2?
I've had mine pre-ordered for a while, got it delivered to a local convenience store and missed getting there before they shut.
I'll pick it up tomorrow, despite the stories I'm still hyped for the game, especially given the mechanics that Naughty Dog have out into the game.
Got Ghost of Tsushima pre-ordered too, both games look awesome, I can't wait to play both.
Re: Rumour: Alleged Photo of PS5 from Factory Emerges
It doesn't look real too me, looks like a more oblong book shape, where the PS5 has curved white side panels.
Maybe this is the box it comes in.
Re: Gallery: Assassin's Creed Valhalla In-Game Screenshots Show Locations, Characters, Combat, and More
@BearsEatBeets I'm pretty sure the collector's edition shows what she looks like:

Re: PS5 Will Be Transformative for Games, Console Design Revealed in Coming Months
Re: Rumour: Deep Down Was in a 'Near-Complete State' Before Being Shelved
I think the game was too close to Souls in it's style and Capcom wanted to make something that could stand out on it's own, so they turned their attention to the Resident Evil games and Monster Hunter World to get something more unique out.
Now with Bloodborne getting such critical acclaim, Nioh (1&2) and Dark Souls 3 fitting that part of the genre so well Deep Down wouldn't have been as well received as Capcom would have wanted.
Re: PS5 Is the Better Next-Gen Console, According to Crytek Developer
Re: PS5 Is Attracting an Obscene Amount of FUD Right Now
@JJ2 Both the CPU and GPU have the power required in PS5's Power Supply to hit their full speed at the same time, but the reality is that games are dynamic in how calculations hit the hardware.
Re: Talking Point: PS5 Delay Is Possible, And We Could Have to Accept That
AMD confirmed at their recent conference that BOTH PS5 and XBox Series X are on track to launch this year.
Re: This Time Next Year, We'll Be Playing PS5
Re: PS5 Will Have a 4K Blu-Ray Disc Drive
@jdv95 Sony will likely wait and announce the price at the proper PS5 reveal.
They have a fair few months to do that, personally I'd pay £499 for this system, if not a bit more if the tech warrants it at launch.
The control tech and RT hardware, along with having a 3rd gen Zen CPU, will make for a great console.
Sony's devs are going to make this thing sing for gamers.
Re: Sunset Overdrive Is Owned by PlayStation, Sony Confirms
