Hype master Geoff Keighley has confirmed that PS5 title Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart will be putting in an appearance during Gamescom Opening Night Live 2020 later this week. Keighley promises a "world premiere demo" of the game running on Sony's next-gen system.
The event organiser goes on to say that this will be "a full, longer, uncut demo" from Insomniac Games itself, so you can expect a sizeable chunk of fresh footage.
Of course, we we've already seen Rift Apart in action -- the next-gen adventure played a prominent role in Sony's PS5 reveal event back in June. But we're still excited to see more, and the gameplay should give us an even better idea of what Sony's upcoming system is capable of.

My body is ready.
Cool, looking forward to it.
Launch game?
All they need to do is look better than Halo Infinite and it's a win.
Nicee, can't wait for it, I hope we'll have that new female lombax gameplay
I'm not sure I can handle the hype. I feel that this is the PS5's showstopper.
Hopefully they should more of the female lombax, I got a feeling that the metal arm of hers is more than just a metal arm.
I bloody love Ratchet & Clank! Really hope it's a launch title...
Can't wait to see more of this. This will be a spectacular tech demo showcasing the speed of the SSD, but I hope the gameplay is fun as well.
@Leon_93 Metal arm you say?
Super excited. Love this series, having a new one for launch is brilliant.
Love these game! Definitely going to be a system seller!
Lets us gooo!,hope this rachet and clank is at least better than the ps3 era ones.
@Octane If Insomniac has teo PS5 games ready to go at launch than Sony's really getting their money's worth from that acquisition.
@Enuo Well, I do believe they have two separate teams at Insomniac, so it's entirely possible both of them align at some point. Spider-Man: MM is also a smaller title that only took two years it seems.
@3Above. They dont need to do anything.ps5 is still gonna win easily.word up son
That reminds me that Insomniac becoming part of Sony was announced during the same event 🤔
So so excited for this game. This will probably be the game that makes me take the plunge into next gen.
Great stuff, looking forward to it!
@Octane that is exactly my thoughts. I was expecting Spiderman MM, but if they lead with R&C... well... who knows? I'd be utterly delighted if R&C is the launch game with Spiderman MM as a stocking filler on Christmas day. Purchasing Insomniac might be the wisest thing Sony ever did.
@Kefka2589 A Crack In Time is one of my all-time favourite games. I got so many memories playing that game, made me fall in love with my PS3 for sure.
@Octane and yeah you are right, Insomniac has two teams, indeed Sony seems to be hearing it's bigger studios up for multi-team development, with Guerilla, Naughty Dog, Sony Santa Monica and even Sucker Punch seemingly looking like they're all development further in-house teams. Then there's the rumour new Studio in San Diego. Still expect Sony to purchase the likes of Housemarque and Blue Point as well.
@SirAngry No reason to buy a studio when it's already working full time with you.
And they can't just buy a studio, maybe they don't want to be bought. I'd rather see them open up new studios than buy up the remaining independent developers.
@Octane I guess with Housemarque I have a different perspective, they need financial certainty as a developer, and I think Sony would give them that while allowing them to continue making the game that they are. Blue Point is a different kettle of fish I guess, they seem to be financially stable, due in no small part to working with Sony, and also keen to keep that relationship going.
Just to keep expectations in check: this is going to be the same demo from June but with no cuts. Also, I hope the framerate is smoother.
official playstation magazine had a list of about of 100 PS5 games an issue or two back, and this was pegged as a release in the 6-12 months after launch. the PS4 remake was really good, and tools of destruction/a crack in time on PS3 were a lot fun too (didn't care for any of the other titles/spin-offs), so have high hopes that insomniac can deliver.
I think this game is a bigger deal than many may think, it's been a good 4 years since the last game and it's the first new entry since Into The Nexus, which was a smaller title compared to the earlier PS3 entries.
Most likely the game is an early 2021 release.
It's possible Sackboy's Big Adventure could be a launch game or maybe Demon's Souls, along with Spidey.
I want all of the above regardless anyway, interested to see more of Returnal too, I think it's Housemarque's first proper AAA game.
I wonder if the Female Lombax will be playable with Clank for a portion of the game and hopefully the Rift jumping will allow you to move to other worlds and see parts of bigger game worlds than we've seen in a R&C game before.
It looks so gorgeous and fun, can't wait to see this new extended trailer.
Hoping for something a bit more "next gen" from this. The last bit of gameplay was underwhelming
@3Above Not hard. Plus it already did.
@get2sammyb @ShogunRok Hmm so is this just an extended version of the demo we already saw during the PS5 Reveal event?
Or a brand spank'n new demo?
My most anticipated game right now and it's not even close. I loved the PS4 re-imagining and this being the first truly new game in the series since the PS3 days adds more to the hype. Will definitely be tuning in for this.
@KidBoruto Sounds like it's probably the same gameplay segment. But that stuff was heavily edited down, so there should still be a lot of gameplay we haven't seen.
@rachetmarvel - i don't remember a R&C game i didn't like.
