@theSpectre absolutely agreed. Toasters run OG Doom. Fridges run OG Doom. Calculators run OG Doom. I'm pretty sure at this point if you attached a monitor to me I'd run OG Doom. Doom is everywhere and should be everywhere.
Live service games aren't inherently bad or without merit. The problem is that - as others have said - the grind and time investment required to get the most out of the vast majority of games is massive.
And your average person will not have the time to play and/or grind out more than one live service game at a time. I'm in this boat. I play Destiny 2, and it's a big time investment, plus there are other games (single-player or playing with Mrs. Markatron84) that I want to play, so I have avoided most other live service games not because they're bad but because I just don't have the time.
If you're not one of the big pre-established games/franchises, successfully breaking into and sustaining your position in the live service market is nigh-on impossible.
The art style is utterly gorgeous. Everything else looks... iffy? The animation is stiff, the combat (well, what little we've seen of it, anyway) looks clunky. I dunno, I just think people should temper their expectations with this one.
I've only ever played Yakuza/Like a Dragon game with Japanese VO, so the one time I tried playing one in English it all sounded wrong anyway. But I don't see the issue with Yong's performance from what little we've heard so far.
@LiamCroft yeah, Crash Team Rumble doesn't have microtransactions... right now. Neither did CTR Nitro-fuelled at launch. Activision let the review cycle run its course before adding them into the game a few months later. That will happen with Crash Team Rumble
Can we not all just accept that console exclusives exist? Companies do deals with other companies. Companies outright buy other companies. Microsoft does it. Sony does it. Everyone does it and has been doing it for decades. Playstation fans don't get Xbox exclusives. Xbox fans don't get Playstation exclusives. The absolute d*ckheadery that comes out of fans from both camps is legitimately insufferable - yes, you're mad you can't play a thing; deal with it - and both Pure Xbox and Push Square stoke the arguements and toxicity with their lopsided and pandering "reporting".
@Th3solution I might be wrong but I'm pretty sure anything being "leaked" through ratings boards is basically because as soon as the game (or whatever) is rated, that information is just/needs to be public knowledge. Again, I might be wrong and it might differ from country to country.
I was excited for LEGO 2K Drive until the reports of the aggressive monetisation surfaced. I'd be down for LEGO 2K Goooal! as well, but there's no way it doesn't suffer from the same issue.
Also, rename LEGO 2K Drive to LEGO 2K Driiive!, you cowards.
I have never had any interest in Avatar; I've not seen either of the films. However, after The Division and its sequel, I'm interested in Frontiers of Pandora purely based on the fact that Massive is developing it.
Spider-Man 2 aside, in regards to first-party releases, this presentation was a big fat nothing-burger. Sorry, but wasn't this supposed to "fill PlayStation fans in on the next era of PS5", or something to that effect? Damn, I don't even have a PS5 and that was depressing to watch.
Even as someone who plays solely on PC, I'm happy to wait 2-3 years for PS5 exclusives to make their way to PC. I transitioned from console to PC to give myself access to the biggest pool of games (basically anything that isn't Nintendo) possible without the need to own multiple machines. If I have to wait a while to play some of those games, that's fine; it's not like there's nothing else to do. As long as the ports are good, Sony can take its time.
Love is love, no matter your gender or sexual orientation. But in all seriousness, how dare this vocalist with neither influence over nor power to change the plot of this game ruin the Horizon series? ð
These sorts of people just continue to prove that there's no such thing as an intelligent bigot ð
@AFCC don't be so quick to celebrate the death of live service games. Games as a service is only the latest in a long line of (potentially) scummy initiatives for publishers to squeeze more money out of consumers (and to cripple the used game market before that). Over the years we've had online multiplayer passes, DLC season passes, battle passes, microtransactions, loot boxes, games as a service... If games as a service dies out completely (which I don't think it will), something equally as - or more - predatory and scummy is 100% guaranteed to replace it.
I would assume that if this is true (which it probably isn't), it'd be Bluepoint who'd be tasked with making it happen? I'd definitely be down for Bloodborne remake, but part of me can't help but hold out hope that Sony lets Bluepoint loose on a potential Bloodborne 2.
@Majed there was supposed to be a Sly Cooper CG animated film a good few years ago. There was even a teaser trailer for it, but the film never materialised.
@Edmilson6 Soul Sacrifice! I'd forgotten all about that. I put hundreds of hours into the vanilla game and Delta. This would definitely be my second choice.
The consumer friendly thing to do here would either be: 1. make it so that you can just buy a season with actual money and not silver 2. raise the minimum amount of silver you can buy to 1,200
But then again, I'm not a multi-million dollar company, so what the f**k do I know?
@wiiware @Keyblade-Dan imagine if Microsoft had used that $69 billion to more competently fund, support and manage their existing developers/projects in the first place, let alone the potential $3 billion if the deal goes south.
@GADG3Tx87 bought expansions/content for Destiny on one platform don't transfer to other platforms. Saves/characters do.
If anyone's taking anything hostage already, it's Sony; demanding contracts and assurances way beyond the typical third party publisher agreement.
What Jim fails to see is that of course MS will keep renewing the COD contract with PlayStation. It's a massive franchise that they'll continue to see revenue from; this is why MS hasn't revoked PlayStation players' access to things like Minecraft, Elder Scrolls Online, Fallout 76, etc, because they'll see a constant revenue stream from them even if it's on a rival platform.
@GADG3Tx87 that's different. In Microsoft's defence, they've left all existing games that they now own on PlayStation; games with pre-existing communities. What you're saying is: pull a pre-existing game that people are already playing and have paid money for from a rival console, which isn't comparable to potentially making future Call of Duty games exclusive.
I would expect the usual contract between Sony and Activision Blizzard is to put Call of Duty games on PlayStation for three years, then after that three years the contract gets looked at again and renewed. What Jim Ryan is scared of is that Microsoft won't renew the contract when the time comes, and he's essentially angling for Microsoft to put in writing that Call of Duty will remain on PlayStation consoles indefinitely. But I guarantee no other contract between a platform holder and third party publisher works that way.
