From what I played of the open beta, Concord is a good game. It's just not doing anything that warrants the £35 price tag. Speaking personally, I generally dip in and out of multiplayer shooters, mostly because I'm dogs**t at them nowadays, so the idea of spending that much money on something I'll likely give up on for months at a time isn't appealing.
I know I'm in the minority, but I played the first 4 hours of God of War 2018 when it finally came to PC and noped out of there. It looks gorgeous and I was into the story and characters, but I disliked actually playing it.
@get2sammyb precisely. So why stick to a "house style" that contradicts that fact? A house style that, judging by the comments above this one, I'm not the only one confused/irritated by?
Here's my problem with that statement. You say that this write-up of the game/beta is one person's personal opinion, yet it's not presented that way:
Yet after our time with the closed PS5 beta
That, we're not so sure on.
After just a couple of rounds the fatigue of this take had already worn on us.
But in our first handful of hours
We can envisage
After a handful of hours with Marvel Rivals, we're not eager for one more game
Oh, and my personal favourite, in regards to your statement:
However, Marvel Rivals lacks a certain fun factor — at least in our opinion.
I've noted and voiced my opinion on Hookshot's constant insistence on using "we", "our", "us", etc, when it makes no sense whatsoever to do so, which you've just proved 🤷
I played Speedstorm for around 2 hours before losing interest, due to the need to purchase and then level up individual characters to even have a hope of being competitive. Plus, hot take, but:
1. Speedstorm's gameplay isn't the hot sh*t everyone says it is. 2. Speedstorm's visuals/track designs are ugly.
There are so many far better - and less scummy - Kart racer alternatives out there, I'm amazed the game's lasted this long.
It's not the "hero shooter" part that bothers me, just the "shooter" part. If it's a 6v6 game where you actually use each hero/villain's powers and traversal abilities, then I'm all for giving it a go. But if it's another Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League situation (Thunderbolts: Kill the Avengers?🤷), where every character has guns regardless of whether or not it makes thematic sense, then I'm out.
Lots of games looked very promising and I'll definitely be checking out Stellar Blade, Rise of the Ronin, Sonic X Shadow Generations and Judas, albeit on PC. That remake of Silent Hill 2 though? Oof. That looks ropey as f**k.
@matekomlosi they've probably got to put at least one more version of TLoU2 out yet.
@get2sammyb @DreamlandGem feedback isn't unconstructive just because you don't like what's being said. And if your issue is with the way it's being said, then perhaps reflect on that; the way something was said - by supposed professionals, no less - is why you received the feedback in the first place
Headline is a bit fanboy like surely? The facts may well be true, but I dunno maybe tone it back a little? Just going to encourage the usual console wars.
Good luck trying to get PS and PX to stop baiting arguments between fanboys. They're quite happy to fan the flames. It's either an SEO thing or they have a "banned for flaming/arguing" monthly quota they need to meet 🤣
The madness won't end. Yes, us rational level-headed people would never even entertain the idea of paying £17/$20 for an in-game cosmetic. However, the reason companies feel like they can get away with charging these sorts of prices for microtransactions is... well, they can. Enough people are obviously paying these prices on a regular enough basis, or the prices would go down.
It's not right, but it's the sad truth. As people more attuned to games we can vote with our wallets and not buy this stuff, but we're outnumbered exponentially by casual gamers - who maybe just play free-to-play live service games - who have no issue spending ridiculous amounts of money on cosmetic microtransactions.
Microids couldn't stand Daedalic and GameMill stealing its thunder and swooped in at the last minute to try and steal 2023. The video game industry is a rollercoaster.
I played through this on PC earlier this week. Even though the formula of "talk to everyone, receive an item, then follow that item chain to the end" became apparent early on, it's an effortlessly charming and funny game.
To be honest, as painful as it is to say, this doesn't surprise me. MM's games seem to take ages to make, lack mass market appeal and aren't the massive sellers that Sony's other franchises are.
My thoughts exactly. If Push Square is going to continue to publish this sort of article, maybe they shouldn't try and pass it off as "news"? Any news outlet worth a damn is supposed to be impartial and unbiased, not spout opinion and stoke fanboyish rallying for or against a specific company. Poor show, Push Square.
Edit: I'll just add, before anyone accuses me of anything, that Pure Xbox is just as bad, but in the opposite direction. Over there, they're simping over Phil Spencer and Xbox can do no wrong and everything Microsoft does is "fantastic for the industry".

Fair play, that's brilliant.

I would be very interested to see the PS5 numbers for Concord. I wasn't expecting more than a few thousand on Steam, but 697?!

Sorry, but having spent time with both the Concord and Marvel Rivals betas, the latter is unquestionably the better game.
