There's only one real story to this week's Japanese charts, and that's the success of Everybody's Golf in its native country. The PlayStation 4 exclusive stormed to the top of the software charts, shifting over 100,000 copies. Not a colossal amount, to be fair, but it's still more than most games manage on their debut.
As for Sony's current-gen console itself, the PS4 remains behind the Nintendo Switch for a second week, still hovering around that 20-25,000 mark.

Wow.
Switch is up there all on its own and PS4 is at Number 1. Nice typo.
Also good to see Everybody's Golf do well. Makes you wonder, does it do better than Mario Golf? Granted there are more EG than MG, but its worth looking into. Might see the whole market for golf titles beyond PGA.
There's a lot of Japanese people on the online courses, I guess it's super popular with all sorts over there?
Glad though, really enjoying what Everybody's Golf offers this time!
Nice to see the switch in number 0.
@BLP_Software
You don't get it. Switch is better than number 1!
@sinalefa @BLP_Software What's funny is this is what happens when you copy and paste it, it looks fine, just w/o the numbers.

@sinalefa Don't say that, you'll be banned.
@rjejr So that had to be done manually? Oh, wow. That's amazing.
Everybody's Golf did much better in its glories days but 100k is a respectable number these days..
Both Etrian Mystery Dungeon 2 and Nights of Azure 2 bombed pretty hard though.. NOA2 on Switch did particularly bad but I guess it's more to do with game itself rather than the platform, its numbers on PS4 and Vita are nothing too impressive either.
I assume Destiny 2 will take the top spot next week with a large margin.. anyone dare to guess the PS4 vs XBox One split?
@BLP_Software @rjejr @sinalefa You're all banned.
@ShogunRok Go ahead
Wasn't expecting that cus it's golf...
@Godsent I think Destiny 2 will garner a 70% PS4 - 30% Xbox One split. Xbox sales of the game will ramp up again in November after the X launches.
Knack 2 will break the charts around the globe with 10.000.000 copies sold #GOTC
I was a bit wary of Everybody's Golf being online and having a Mii like character creator but I've seen some fantastic looking avatars out there on the courses even a spitting image Donald Trump! So far I've created Mara Jade from Star Wars, my Miqo'te character from FFXIV and a Ciri lookalike. Simple and fantastic fun, I love it!
And PS3 still outsells XB One... 🤣
One of my games of the year at the moment. Love it.
Everybody's Golf doing so well is a nice little surprise. I'll get it eventually on my PS4, when I'm not so swamped with recent purchases on Switch.
@ShogunRok Ya know, if you're gonna make a threat, follow through with it. One day you will be serious and no one will believe you
Make promises, not threats
"As for Sony's current-gen console itself, the PS4 remains behind the Nintendo Switch for a second week, still hovering around that 20-25,000 mark."
It's useful to remember that PS4 has sold over 5 million, while Switch has sold only around a million and half in Japan. That means that even at this week's rate, even in Japan it would take approximately 156 weeks for Switch to catch up to PS4. That's three years!
@Mahe wow that really puts it into perspective for me.
Smooth sailing for the the rest of the generation, even without mentioning that hmmm the Switch is not really the same gen as ps4 though at this point it's all blurred with the WiiU 3 years lifespan.
@Mahe well it honestly depends
But you are comparing a newer (by date not tech) piece of hardware to a older piece of hardware w 2 versions...
@Feena PS4 and Switch will continue to coexist in the same market for a long time. They're in the same generation.
@Derpie1 Yeah, of course. But it's expected that PS4 will have a longer total lifespan than Switch will.
@Mahe nah I can see Sony bringing the PS5 soon
Unless you're in belief the Switch WILL fail and that's debatable...
@Derpie1 Do you really see Sony bringing PS5 in 2018 or so? Even that would mean a 5 year lifecycle which would be really short for a PS5 system. PlayStation systems have an average lifecycle of 6 years before the next system, and then they still keep going even when the new system is out, usually totalling around 10 years.
For Switch, it's expected that Switch 2 will be around in 3 to 4 years or so, possibly even sooner. This is Nintendo's own plan, a system with a quick refresh cycle.
@whizzkidd it is Sony, I'm pretty sure Japan wouldn't support Xbox One even if it had the biggest Jrpgs.
@Mahe my reason for that belief is Sony is kinda def looking at those gaming PCs plus now they seem to love power + they said it themselves they aren't gonna stick w PS4 for 10 years specially since from a power standpoint now they're underpowered compared to Xbox 1 X and the West loves power... I can see PS5 happening soon it'll prob be up there w the X or even a GTX 1080 Ti Rig... just incredibly expensive but w a enthralling lineup that anyone can expect...
Switch: I think they'll do what they did w 3DS but much slower... due to stock issues
@Derpie1 West loves accessible consoles with great game selections, and that's why PS4 Slim is selling so well. Sony is in no rush to replace a system that is outpacing the PS3 by a huge margin.
@Mahe they said PS5 is in development
Lets just wait and see...
@Derpie1 PS4 was in development at least in 2010 and possibly even earlier. Consoles take a lot of time to develop.
