@Max_the_German Spiderman 2 sales are highly affected by the fact they were adding it bundled with console. That created a picture of good sales results. But it did not sell that well if not bundles.

@LogicStrikesAgain Forbidden West is still below 10m, its sales slowed down much. Yōtei sold 3.3m in first month, hit falls behind Tsushima’s sales and did not reach 6m yet, they are somewhere around 4m something. The reason is, after lots of hype and release noise, it didn’t take three weeks for everyone to just forget about it. Barely anyone even mentions Yōtei now.

Btw, Astro Bot sold around 1m officially, but according to some leaks it’s somewhere around 1.5m. It won GOTY but sales wise is not really a grand success

@themightyant Sometimes it’s the other way. I find it kind of crazy to see Death Stranding at $59.99 on PS5 and $39.99 on Xbox. It gets often on some sales on PS5 but still more expensive

Well, it’s logical if that is not a new release but an older game rerelease. It’s a pity other publishers do not decrease prices of their games after year or two. It’s ridiculous to go to PS Store and see some of the 4-5 year old games still at $70 price.

Everyone has own list and rating. There is no perfect game, each of these has pros and cons, good things and flaws. It’s very subjective.

It was a bad game, yet managed to keep servers for so long, compared to some other games that servers for closed in two weeks

This was a pretty great example of what a generic and mediocre game is. Can be good looking, can come from renowned studio, and still be nearly a trash.

@PuppetMaster Man, that was too long, I admit I read only 30% I stopped reading when you tried to convince Yōtei is some kind of best seller or something, while having a price tag $10 lower than Tsushima, it falls far behind it in sales numbers in similar time period. You may want to check that before you start arguing, after release it sold well, then dropped and sells slow now. It will not reach Tsushima sales, just like most of their sequels did not reach original game sales (Forbidden West, TLOU2, SM2, Ragnarok.. they all sold much worse than the first game). Why? Because (you will pretend you do not see that) after few years man start to notice they are all similar, lazy sequels with little efforts and evolution, no creativity at all. I am getting tired of playing the same all over again.

Firstly, PS3 emulation isn’t going to happen, and I don’t rally want to waste time explaining technicals.. Secondly, nice damage control but Marathon is going to be a flop, let’s not pretend we didn’t see comments, reactions and actual game presentations and it looks mediocre.. Third, „Hulst has failed his remit of diversifying PlayStation’s portfolio” is great summary of how I view Sony’s portfolio since last 5-6 years: these are all the same genre, same theme, similar story games, there is no creativity and no revolution any more, that is damn sad. And finally, fourth, I am not judging anyone waiting for Wolverine, but since I really hoped for a darker and more serious story and style, I am not buying Spiderman 2 reskin where again we are fighting some robots and machines in a world looking like a damn colorful cartoon.. I wanted darker Logan/Wolverine movie style , and they want to deliver Avengers style combined with Paw Patrol style, adding blood like it was supposed to change it drastically into something more serious.

@Rich33 like you said, they all produce and sell consoles at loss, and want to profit by margins and selling games later on. The thing is, times are changing. In corporate, every year you are expected to increase income, decrease costs, and increase profit. Sooner or later they all will stop selling consoles at loss because that is consuming their profit a lot. Question was who will be the one to begin that process, and it seems it will be MS with their next hybrid. Soon after Sony will also stop selling at loss, Nintendo as well. With hardware prices going up, that is obvious.

And I agree with the guy who said that after PS6 and Xbox PC there will be no more consoles, they will more to cloud and streaming. If hardware gets expensive then the product gets expensive then it sells worse. So why producing it if you can use streaming.

We have seen it happening with music, with movies.. who still thinks it will not happen with gaming is naive.

@AdamNovice there are different tiers and classes, super cars, rally, drift, etc etc. In 10 hrs you barely tried the beginning of the game.

They could release the OG Fable trilogy on PS5.

Just finished Syberia Remastered, for me a 9/10 game, original one was 10/10.
Since there is no Syberia 2 Remaster available but only 3rd game on PS, playing Syberia 2 on iOS now

Mediocre set. The NFS is bad. Mickey is.. average. And the indie game..

@SeaDaVie which is ridiculous because Horizon series is so dumb, characters, dialogs, lore.. only combat and exploration is fun. But at the same time „PS exclusive” tag makes sales getting higher. Violet game will also sell, even being so bad.

That would not be a problem if that wasn’t their main lineup for last 6-7 years. Their several studios work only on one existing IP.
Insomniac after SM1, Morales, SM2, work on similar game Wolverine l, after which they will work on SM3. Come on. Where is creativity.

Guerilla? Their last IP different than Horizon was Killzone Shadow Fall in 2013, since 2017 they work only on Horizon IP with two more games in development.. which is ridiculous to me since Horizon lore, characters, dialogs are so dumb.

These games are not bad, but it gets a little boring to play 3-4 same IPs all over again. I want something new, fresh, different. Not the same again.

Yōtei, sold much worse than first part in same time, few weeks after release and sales dropped, we no longer even see any noise about the game on media.
Hellblade (first one sold decent, second one landed on GamePass hence sold rather poorly).
Control.. for a new IP 5 mln copies in its lifetime isn’t bad, but it is not really a good sales compared to titles selling 10, or 15 mln copies.

@naruball nah, Stellar Blade sold because it was Asian studio, good looking dolls and gameplay ripped of soulslikes, but that the same time the world felt empty and uninteractive, filled with some enemies and bosses here and there and minimal interactions. Story wise was.. well.. generic. It sold well mainly because of the dolls. If that game was released with main protagonist looking normal or being a dude, it would not sell well and we all know it.

So.. if even Sony is not interested in releasing covers for Pro, that sounds like they didn’t sell as much as they hoped to sell. Otherwise they would support it to profit on covers as well.

The Fable reboot sounds very nice.
It’s a pity they did not release the OG Fable 1/2/3 on PS5, these are lovely games.

Ok. I don’t get the hype for Parasite Eve. I tried it last year in SX emulation because it’s not available on PS5, decent game but didn’t get my attention for more than few hours.

PS Store is a mess, full of AI generated, or trash games. Whenever I filter by price growing up, the first 300-400 games are pure trash that should never be added on the store.

The system errors are also there, like some have mentioned above, from time to time on Store same one or two errors happen. It happens for years and Sony did nothing to solve it. Reddit or other forums are full of people reporting it.

@UltimateOtaku91 didn’t MS change their strategy long term? allowing external stores, free multiplayer and PC games support makes their next console quite tempting open system vs the close narrow like Sony has. Considering some Sony games are going to PC, and their first party lineup being quite.. copy-paste-repeat, it can actually be a good strategy.

I mean I am happy some people might be interested in another Horizon Zero West, Spiderman 3, 4, or Ghost of 3, 4.. but I feel for last few years their lineup is just like playing the same again and again. Hybrid system with PC support might be quite a refreshing thing.

@MrPeanutbutterz Spiderman 2 and GoW Ragnarok are mid games. Yet, Spiderman 1 and GoW 1 were perfect. With sequels I just felt like replaying the same again and again. Very little evolution.

But what else to expect from biased site… I mean, in the „real GOTY” (the one that matters) Yōtei didn’t get any reward in any category.

Since many months when they announce their picks for Essential and Premium games.. disappointment follows.

Either cheap ones, or compete garbage, or old ones, or indies. Honestly, I wonder why do I pay for Plus.. because games they add definitely are not the reason.

They are trying to place it in every possible category to give it any reward. I wait for best racing games to see Yōtei there as well.

If RAM prices will delay PS6, they will obviously impact also PS5. Either price will increase, or they will keep the PS5 price stable taking cost for time being, but get it back with PS6 price…

RAM issues will definitely affect the future prices of consoles. No matter what, no corporation will cover extra costs if they are already now selling consoles with loss.

Biggest disappointment for me.

The only problem is, you count that title value by adding release prices of these games, while all of them are constantly on sales -20% up to -50%.

Apart from that it was not a bad year.
The question is was all of that worth what they ask for the service??

I don’t really care about them using AI.
It means nothing until you see the product, the game, and can judge if using AI made it worse or better or did not have any impact.

I bet most of the developers nowadays use AI, and it’s being criticized here, but wait for proofs of AI usage in any of Sony upcoming games, and we will see all of these accounts defending that and proving it did nothing wrong

@TheArt PS Blog putting Yotei as a GOTY was both ridiculous and pathetic. It was also obvious they will do that - even if there was already GTA6, Half Life 3, Witcher 4 they would put Yotei as winner because that was biased voting.

Stripped of the award from irrelevant source that doesn’t even matter to anyone.. to me E33 is the GOTY and that’s it. There was little competition from KCD2 or DS2, but these are all sequels building on the first game’a success rather than introducing anything new and that is why E33 has won.

@graymamba everyone can have opinions, some games are just better experience than others too.
Just look past weeks and see how many people rated Yotei GOTY ONLY because it’s the only Sony game in the list, obviously biased. Death Stranding 2 is not an exclusive, it will follow first game’s path in 2026.
DS2 is great for some, others prefer Expedition, others prefer something else. It’s normal. For me Expedition 33 = DS2, same level of fun, just different genre. But I was extremely tired of Yotei, being just too similar to Tsushima felt like playing the same again and again. Sequels are ok, but too many sequels is bad.

We already know which game will be winner in here, I mean come on You laughed at biased PS Blog awards, yet you make the same lol

Everyone can have opinions and personal favorites, but sales + ratings are the best factors here. None of other games on the list got even close to its sales and it got great ratings too.

@Steeleye25 not sure where you live, but here the whole Banshee S01-04 plus Warrior S01-03 are available on HBO Max. Must say, I thought Banshee was 10/10, but Warrior is 11/10. Love it.
