Alongside our Game of the Year top 10 list and personal picks from the Push Square editorial team, we are recognising the best PS5 games of 2025 in select categories. Today is the turn of the best PS5 remaster or remake of 2025.
Bronze Trophy: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered

It's still got a few too many technical problems in need of fixing, but the achievement that is Oblivion Remastered — with Unreal Engine 5 running over the top of the original — is still an impressive achievement. Returning to Cyrodill is a true pleasure, and the chance to experience once again its wondrous exploration and RPG elements. As long as you can put up with its glitches, Oblivion Remastered still represents excellent adventuring and one of the best RPG undertakings around.

Silver Trophy: Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles

Fans had been begging Square Enix for years to have Final Fantasy Tactics back, and they finally got their wish in The Ivalice Chronicles, which remasters the PS1 original with a fresh art style. Restoring one of the best turn-based games ever, it now plays better than ever on PS5. It may be lacking the War of the Lions content, but with major quality-of-life improvements, this is Final Fantasy Tactics at its best.

Gold Trophy: Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter

For years now, RPG fans have asked: "What should be my first Trails game?" That question has now been answered in the most definitive manner: it should be Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter, taking the franchise back to its beginnings with a fantastic remake.
Along with the obvious graphical overhaul and tons of streamlining to make combat work and feel far better, there is a mountain of quality-of-life improvements designed to make the JRPG shine once more. This is how you do a remake of a classic, restoring the original Trails in the Sky in all its glory.

Platinum Trophy: Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater

There are faithful remakes, and then there's Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. Konami and Virtuos literally lift all the cutscenes and voice acting from the 2004 classic and place them in this new version, sporting stunning graphics and gameplay improvements to make the experience shine all over again.
A handful of new mechanics and items streamline some of the pinch points from the original, but by and large, this is one of the greatest Metal Gear Solid entries, exactly as you remember it with the visual standards of today. What was considered outstanding over 20 years ago remains so in 2025.

I really enjoyed going through Days Gone: Remastered once again, though honestly I couldn't really tell you what the improvements were.
As for Gears of War: Reloaded, I was bitterly disappointed with the 'effort' put into the remaster, as I felt it to be a poor showcase for what is supposedly a flagship Xbox title. I only went through the campaign, which I have done numerous times over the years since it was first released, but for this remaster the AI was utterly broken when playing it solo. A truly abysmal effort that was just a cash grab for the PlayStation audience...
I spent the most time in Elder Stutters 4, and I’m waiting for 100% certainty they won’t butcher the MGS3 Delta trophy list with any multiplayer garbage before I get that platinum’d, but so far I’m most impressed with THPS 3+4.
It’s practically perfect, and they chose better trophy criteria than that in the first bundle’s extremely grindy list (although if you’re a newbie, some of the challenges can be rather brutal. OG PS2 veterans shouldn’t have much issue though).
Haven’t had time to get to either of the DQ remakes yet so my thoughts might change once I do.
So are you going to break the heartbreaking news about Vince Zampella? I'm in shock to be honest. He had insane talent and seemed like a decent guy who cared for gaming.
It's not on the list, but I did rather enjoy Pac-Man World 2 Re-Pac.
I bought Oblivion in the summer, but still not played it yet. Too much on backlog. Looking forward to it, though.
Voted Days Gone as had a wicked time with it the second go round on PS5. There are times when the night storm and wind effects turn that game into a real nerve-racking experience that I didnt recall from the PS4 version. An absolute first class game.
I voted also in the very small hope the right folk are watching and greenlight a much desired sequel.
Snake Eater Delta (yes even with performance issues) because they were faithful to original game, even giving you the option to play the game with legacy or new style controls, I hope they do this for MGS1 next.
Trails in the Sky Remake for me, Yooka Replaylee was great as well.
Based on what I've seen, Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter's victory is well deserved. Definitely a game I want to get to at some point, whether it's the original on GOG or the remake on Switch (I don't have a PS5, and my PS4 can't play it). The one thing I've heard about it that I don't like is the changed dialogue.
Certainly isnt metal gear solid 3 remake or oblivion remaster both are pathetic in the performance department how can someone vote for game that bad any gamer be warned about virtous as a developer are terrible stay away
I actually didn't play any remakes that came out this year. I'm sure they're all good, rebut remakes just weren't on my radar.
Oblivion should be nowhere near this list. Not only was it a technical mess, but they left the most egregious mistakes of the original untouched. Just about as bad as they could possibly have managed.
Oblivion? I can't play it without it completely freezing up every minute. Ridiculous.
What's with Konami and performance issues on PS5? First SH2 remake, then MGS3 remake and finally SHf. I want to play all these 3 on PS5 but I am afraid of annoying performance issues. Hope they get their ***** together before their next big release.
