It seems people claiming that Sony secured contracts for memory and parts was not true. Or maybe they want to sell all the PS5 they keep in warehouses. Anyway, that seems to be rather an issue considering they designed PS6 with specific hardware that was supposed to be powerful at launch 2027 even though is outdated, if they launch it 2029 will be outdated twice as much.
@JAMes-BroWWWn having exclusives does not impact sales of console that much. Look at 92 mln PS5 sold, and then see what number games sell. 2 mln here, 8 mln there, and 400k of Saros?
Having a system seller must play games sell consoles. PS1 had them. PS2 had them. PS3 had them. And then things started to collapse - PS4 mainly remastered them but still had one or two. And here comes PS5.. with no single strong system seller at all. Mostly sequels. What is worse, most games are same genre. After dozens of 3rd person action games many people are damn tired.
@Art_Vandelay on the other hand PC has DLSS which is superior to any other upscaler in the market. On top of that in each game you have dozens of settings to setup the game to improve how it runs, while on a console you get two graphic modes and nothing more.
Seeing how Tsushima sold on PC, there is no sense to port Yōtei. It’s basically the same game with, so won’t sell well. Most of their single player games don’t sell well on PC.
@ThroughTheIris56 not really, Ninja is a hot potato for many years. They were in poor condition already in the past. If Sony would buy them, in few years they would also close them. It takes too long for them to make games. They eat budget too fast. They produce small number of games. Not worth the risk.
The sad thing is, there won’t be other games ported with their change of course on exclusives. I get it is nice to play first one, but the series has many games.
The thing is, they will do similar to Gears Remaster, will release one part on PS5, keep the rest on Xbox. If they would consider releasing Master Chief Collection that would be a good sign, but they don’t plan doing this.
I didn’t play when it released, but Alice is available on Xbox, so I did few months ago. Amazing game, the design and style is unforgettable. I love it.
That’s nature of free market - customers choose what to buy. That is why games which are less interesting fail to sell. Whether it’s Avowed, Senua or Saros and Ghost of Sparta.. this is a clear feedback to developers: players want something different.
Expectations towards Wolverine sales may also be exaggerated, as the game clearly copy pasted the same formula as any other Insomniac game. And their games sell well indeed, but at the same time each single sequel has lower sales than predecessor. This is a big problem for Wolverine because we already can see this is indeed a reskin of Spiderman formula.
What is more, people here and other websites often criticize that Sony is doing the same game over and over again: third person action adventure formula. That is a fact. You may like their games but you must see that they are basically doing safe sequels all the time and no longer take any risks. As long as all sequels and reskins will sell, you will NEVER see any brand new IP, any different genre of games, any revolutionary formula in games. If they see that releasing the same over and over again works, why take any risks? Good job.
@Zeke68 that’s not a big challenge to release most of these titles you mention considering all Insomniac games repeat the very same formula and even reuse resources. Copy paste is always faster.
Restructure always is painful, but happens everywhere. MS will fire lots of people for sure, but let’s not forget Sony plans to do the same with Bungie. There you go, if games have financial success all is good, if they don’t - you decrease people costs. And AI implementation, this will cause much more people to loose jobs. You don’t need 100 devs to do the work, just 20 of them working with AI.
@GamingGod First of all, there was no official statement yet. Second, they pulled out upcoming games, what was released was released. Finally, this argument is so funny, considering no one expected they will even release on PC, then surprise they did.
Game development is expensive nowadays and this will be more expensive in future. Devs earn crazy money. At some point the cost will reach a level at which keeping it exclusive on one ecosystem will no longer generate enough profit. Because yes, even Sony sells games for profit.
On the other hand, argument against that, their games are selling like crap on PC.
@GamingGod I wouldn’t be so sure. Game development costs grow incredibly fast. Add marketing costs to this. Licensing costs too get higher. The same game you developed for $200m few years ago will cost more than 300m soon and more. At the same time PSN user count do not grow that much, and sales of GT games keeps at ca 11-12 mln copies for each. At some point the development cost will be too high for them to cover it with 12 mln sale and still earn enough. They will release it on PC one day for sure. No idea for what considering anyone interested in serious simulators has dozens better ones on PC. They will surely not release on Xbox, but who knows. I doubt it would sell well. The GT series sales get some extra for “exclusive” tag on the box. Xbox has their own Forza series.
But we cannot be sure what happens if indeed both Sony and MS go for full console war. Remember that MS owns MUCH more significant and valuable IPs now after the acquisitions and if they went for exclusivity, that would change the picture quickly.
@EfYI you started with Insomniac who “originally” replays same formula with Wolverine for 4th time since Spiderman 1. Awesome. Then Guerilla whose Horizon series world indeed looks very nice, but story wise and characters, and especially dialogs it’s so incredibly cringe I started to skip cutscenes and dialogs to just get back to bow hunting.. Sicker Punch delivered, and then they fall in same trap like all Sony studios - sequel sequel sequel.. no more original ideas. I honestly stopped reading when you said Ragnarok was best GOW game considering this was actually the worst when it comes to original story, gameplay and pace of the gameplay.. too many side things, too many super long cutscenes between short minutes of actual gameplay. I mean. Come on. Have you played any older GOW..?
That’s what I have the biggest problem with PlayStation these days. Their lineup: sequel, sequel, sequel, remaster, sequel… and some live service games.
I so tired of the same 3rd person action games formula and milking same IPs for second generation.
@AI-Generation I just miss one grand show with all possible stuff like E3. I also miss diverse genres in games from both MS, Sony - I am tired of 3rd person action adventure games stacked with QTE and 20 minute cinematic every 2-3 minutes of gameplay. If I wanted to watch a movie for $70 I would go to cinema.
@SMJ So many angry people writing salty comments about game they don’t care from company they don’t like This basically means MS is finally making good decisions and competition seems to be back on track.
We will never see any new Killzone game. What we will see is three more Spiderman games, two more Horizon games, and couple GOW games. Probably also other sequels.
Funny, the poll at the end completely not biased on a PS targeted website Anyway, I think their change of course with exclusives is mainly a ground for Helix release. That’s when exclusives will come back fully. As for now, the only thing is some salty comments about Gears, nothing more. I also think that changing to exclusives by MS will be more than salty comments in future considering how many IPs they purchase with Zenimax and Activision Blizzard. Any of these can become PC/Xbox exclusive. Lack of Gears on PS may not change the world, but lack of Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Doom or Diablo franchises may change things.
@AdamNovice I don’t talk also violence and gore, I talk color palette. Ok violence too - Wolverine should cut enemies into little pieces like in Gears.
I want Wolverine for adult audience, not a teen friendly movie. But if the game was violent and dark as it should be - sales forecasts would be pretty low. Sony wants to target as usual wide audience at the cost of the product shape. I am tired of another Spiderman clone, and another GOW this time with female.
@AdamNovice unless they prepare grounds for next gen release and build the lineup already now. And also testing what will happen if some titles are not released on PS5. Fable will release and is 100% to beat some sales records. State of Decay.. no idea, I didn’t like other two but who knows. What I am sure, Gears just showed how brutal and dark Wolverine was supposed to be..
@Oram77 I don’t think they want E-Day to sell 20 mln Xbox Series consoles. They are already building lineup for next generation. And here, that move can help them increase sales.
They are forced to do it. The media already spread the whole story so it’s a negative marketing for the game that already has poor results. I don’t think it changes anything. Marathon should be f2p if they want it to stay alive. And even then it’s not sure if it will.
Get used to that gen AI. Some devs already use it, others will use it anyway. Big corporations see it as a cost cutting tool, and help to improve quality. They all support it.
Supermassive has huge experience with these kind of games. They flooded the market with Dark Pictures. Let’s what Firesprite worked on in the past.. list is not only short, it’s pretty weak. Until Dawn 2 seems like the first such big title for them. They don’t have experience in this genre. Which we can already see after trailer, and decisions they made on game place and atmosphere. It falls behind Until Dawn 1 and anything else Supermassive developed. It also looks a little bit low budget.
I would feel hype if it was Supermassive working on Until Dawn 2. But Firesprite? No way.
And well, again. Another sequel. After they released a remaster. Seriously Sony what the f… are we going to play three IPs from now on..?
@Futureshark Claiming that Sony knows what they are doing, right after Concord, Marathon and before Fairgame$ release, knowing that in Bungie they will fire a lot of people.. doesn’t sound like they know what they are doing.
Well. It’s lovely to finally have so many events one by now. Rating SGF strong 8/10, with SoP following with 6/10 and now waiting to see what MS has to show. What I liked personally on SGF is diverse genre of games, you got 1st person games, 3rd person games, horror games, etc etc. Compared to Sony’s usual 3rd person games looking like every other game they release.. SGF was incredibly fresh and interesting to watch.
It sounds like MS is considering going back to exclusives in a form we all know. Their own franchises would be exclusive to own ecosystem, games like Forza, Gears, Halo, plus new IPs and they are working on several new IPs already, while big multiplatform titles like Fallouts, Elder Scrolls, Dooms or Wolfensteins would be kept multiplatform. That’s what logical. Assuming she thinks the same way we think about it.
I cannot imagine game like eg. Elder Scrolls or next Doom suddenly becoming exclusive. Why?
Why is blood disappearing after few seconds? Why having such long super sharp blades he does not cut enemies into pieces? Why so many QTEs? That’s what I want to know.

Or you close the studio and keep IPs.
