They made cinematic fastfood of Avengers, now Spiderman franchise. It’s obvious two kinds of movies will earn a lot in cinemas: ones for kids because parents need to pay for 2-3 tickets to go with them, and dumb action movies packed with effects.

@Vertere Sony as a corp needs to show income growth year on year. If PS6 sales drop, number of players they have drops. Means less games sell. Means they need to increase prices at some point.

Also because development costs will grow.

Sony is not building PS Store monopoly to not increase game prices at some point. That is the purpose. To control prices.

@IllusiveMan Yeah, the Apple idea of their phones being leased for a monthly payments, it’s ridiculous. If you cannot pay so much for a phone, it means you cannot afford it and should look for something else. But Apple is state of mind. People would sell their organs to get one iPhone to show off they have it.

This will not work with consoles.
If one is too expensive there is always alternative.
Switch 2 will be 50% of PS6 price, and runs most 3rd party games just like PS, plus they have dozens exclusives every year. Not 1 of 2.

@UltimateOtaku91 Don’t think so. Sony isn’t aware of our expectations and what people want for quite long. It would be pretty surprising if they were aware what competition plans.

@Kakun PlayStation fans already changed camps in PS3 generation. That’s not impossible if MS delivers the hardware we want with functions we want and games. And it seems they also know that. At least Sharma.

Recent leaks suggest indeed MS plans to include physical drive in Helix.
They are not announcing this so early for a reason. If they confirmed disc drive now, they would give enough time to Sony to potentially reconsider and also add disc drive in PS6.

They wait until it will be too late for any hardware changes. I am pretty sure Sharma knows that having a disc drive will be a game changer and will indeed convince many people to change ecosystem from Sony to MS.

95m units may sound like a lot until you realize Nintendo Switch sold 156m units. Sony won’t even match Nintendo DS with its 151m units sold. Even PS4 sold 117m units.

Since Sony plans to increase console prices again, these numbers will not go up that much as many believe.

@Mr-Cage Not so much. Bigger than they are have fallen in history of business. Few bad decisions can end everything.

Next gen will be real test. Selling less consoles, and games (with increasing development costs) as a result, but increasing profits mean only few things: higher prices.

No discs… and no disc drive. Better get used to that.

Do you honestly believe, they are monopolizing games distribution in their ecosystem, to give players better discounts, better policies and regulations, refunds and possibilities to resell or exchange games..?

Oh.. man.. you will all realize how bad this change with physical to full digital is right AFTER they eliminate physical distribution: game prices will sooner or later be increased, discounts will remain the same or worse, no other improvements will be introduced.

Their discounts are ridiculous. Few years after release a game is sold at full release price to this day, with some discounts from time to time - and every single damn time the discount is exactly the same, being it 30% or at best 50% (but of course not a standard edition which you would buy at reasonable price now, but premium extra ultra edition so still expensive).

Their fans screamed “Microsoft will build monopoly buying Activision!”, yet now they create PS Store and distribution channels monopoly and I do not hear the same people screaming now, they are defending this damn change, because Sony must earn more, because.. it’s Sony.
Who will feel the consequences? You. Me. We.

Sony seems to be lost in their own logic.
Physical media was supposed to be dying.
This and preowned copies hurting their profits..

Not really. Apart from Mortal Kombat, Injustice and Tekken, bo interest in others. I don’t like the art direction here too. Sales wise this won’t do well.
