Re: God of War TV Series 'Honours' Norse Games, Teases Greek Saga

J2theEzzo

Dude who's never played the game promises to 'honour' the very titles he can't play - but he's watched all the videos - and promises it isn't just a glorified franchise cash-in courtesy of Amazon's billionaire financier.

Yeeah, sorry; I don't have any hope for this, regardless of his professional credit. Why not put an actual gamer at the helm of the video game adaptation? Same reason why Cavill left the Witcher series, I suppose...

Re: Retro-Tinged Beat-'Em-Up Scott Pilgrim EX Is Looking Great in New Gameplay Trailer

J2theEzzo

Hmm... now as a huge fan of side scrolling brawlers, even I have to confess that I'm a little worried by how it's become the new genre to get over saturated. Over the next year alone, there's more of these games releasing than has been in the past few years consecutively...

Still, I did feel SP was one of the more nuanced and original titles to fit the format. Hoping this one continues to try and do new things, but isn't half the buggy mess of the original - though somehow, I don't think the art and character design looks as good as the earlier title. Scott's all grown up, I suppose.

Re: Star Wars Outlaws Sequel Reportedly Cancelled, Will Stay in a Galaxy Far, Far Away

J2theEzzo

I just thought the game looked poorly made, with some bad design decisions. Silly ai, lacklustre stealth/ mechanics, etc.

The thing is, a sequel could have improved upon all this, and therefore it's a shame that a new IP doesn't get to shine in favour of the same old, successful, franchises.

But then, perhaps they should have tested it a bit more thoroughly beforehand, and implemented the 'too little, too late' changes ahead of release, rather than afterwards. 🤷‍♂️

Not everyone gets to be a 'Cyberpunk'!

Re: Marvel Cosmic Invasion Announces Two New Playable Characters You Might Not Expect

J2theEzzo

@get2sammyb Curious to see who the next characters will be, but I'm most interested in what the gameplay will be like... hoping it'll come with some character specific special moves, and not be a more basic button bash type brawler.

There was (what seemed to me at the time) a really good Fantastic Four beat em up on PS1, and it was cool being able to unlock new super moves to use, (like throwing fire balls, or doing big stretchy punches) asides from just the regular combos and grabs.

Re: Talking Point: What Do You Want from God of War Maker Sony Santa Monica Next?

J2theEzzo

If they are making a new GoW, I'd like them to focus more on combat, refining things and opening it up a bit more. Maybe less loot and less rpg systems. Find some fun, new, ways to make Kratos an even more effective murder machine, kick out the kid and all the drama, and go back to a more bloody story with some good QTE's, like the old days. Felt the pacing of Ragnarok was terribly off and too many enemies were just tediously spongey on harder settings.

3 is still my personal favourite, and I think a return to that kinda bombast would be great with newer tech and quality graphics.

Re: Resident Evil Requiem PS5 Was Open World, Online in Early Tests

J2theEzzo

Footage looks a bit like Resi 6 to me, which was kind of maligned, and didn't really feel very much like a RE game, even if a somewhat fun coop experience.

The new direction seems a better fit for the genre, but it would be good to have a nice spin off series that could use some of the coop stuff they've been experimenting with.

Re: Mass Effect-Like The Expanse: Osiris Reborn Sounds Like One of PS5's Most Promising Action RPGs

J2theEzzo

@N0CYmr0kI think a lot of peeps are just wanting to keep single player games sacred and strictly single player, after so many failed multiplayer games and the push towards live service. But as you say, multiplayer isn't inherently bad, and I always like being able to play a campaign coop with friends. Rather friends than bots, but I suppose giving them agency takes away from the role play, or story potential.

That said, the Gears franchise did it well enough, as did Space Marine 2, so I don't see the issue!

Re: Death Stranding 2 (PS5) - A Masterpiece in Every Sense

J2theEzzo

@LtSarge I do somewhat agree with you, and see what you mean. A lot of titles, regardless of time between the first and the sequel, really just seem to refine, or tweak, a few bits and add in some extra features. Change the story, and there you are. After playing about 100 hrs of Spiderman, I got bored of MM within 5 hours, because it's just more of the same. And by Uncharted 4, I was definitely done with that series. I haven't played Death Stranding, so can't really speak for that.

Even still, I think in some cases, a story well done, combined with an improved and more intuitive gameplay design can be befitting of a worthy sequel. Case in point; I felt The Last of Us 2 was exceptional. Just better not do a threequel, eh! 😉

Re: SEGA's Accidentally Outed Sales Numbers Put a Lot into Context

J2theEzzo

The "Like a dragon" series get talked up so big by the diehards, it makes it seem more popular a series than it is, I reckon.

I bought the original Yakuza years ago, (on ps2?) with zero knowledge, and was pleasantly surpised. But the games are dense, and the series is nigh impenetrable for newcomers now. Makes sense that they had to do a 'soft reboot', of sorts. Nevertheless, I can't help but feel like the only people buying these games are people already heavily invested in the series and story, but the games probably aren't picking up many new players.

Re: Blood Message Is Uncharted Meets Ancient China, and It Looks Phenomenal

J2theEzzo

@AhmadSumadi I have to say, I played it (Veilguard), and I'm a detractor. I found the characters unlikeable, the art style off-putting, and the moment to moment action pretty unexciting/ a bit janky. I don't think it succeeds as an action rpg, because it all feels way too shallow, and doesn't really feel like a good rpg either, because of the focus on action. Just my opinion! 😉

Re: It Took Capcom Two Years to Secure the Legendary Face of Onimusha's New Hero

J2theEzzo

They used celebrity likeness in all 3 mainline games. I think not for the fourth? Samonouske (?) From 1 and 3 was acted by Takeshi Kaneshiro (of House of Flying Daggers etc.), Jubei Yagyu, though a real historical figure, was played by actor Sonny Chiba in a drama, but the model in the 2nd game was Yūsaku Matsuda. Of course, we all know the legendary Miyamoto Musashi, but not his face! So, makes sense to carry on with the tend of using the face of a real/ more contemporary martial arts figure.

Re: MindsEye Is Comfortably the Worst Reviewed PS5 Game of 2025

J2theEzzo

@Marathon5150 Agreed. But the PS3 just used to have a wider catalogue of more interesting titles, compared to the PS5. And with less reliance on making cash through microtransactions, much of the mire of today's gaming didn't seem so egregious or ubiquitous. Ah, and free to play online, too.

When you consider what chasing profits has done to this generation of console gaming, it just seems most releases are either a) buggy and unfinished, b) a virtual storefront, or c) a safe rehash of something we've all seen and played already. If you're really unlucky, youre playing CoD and it's all 3.

Re: Death Stranding 2 Feedback Was 'Too Good', So Hideo Kojima Made Big Changes

J2theEzzo

I'd rather someone create something artful and interesting, that might turn a few people off, than make a game so completely, baselessley, safe that it's widely renowned as being that game that everyone likes (but no one loves or could tell you what's good about it). There is nothing wrong with only appealing to 6 out of 10 people, because taste is subjective. Something that is designed to appeal to everyone sounds unabashedly convoluted, or like the most capitalist way of playing things safe: Tick every box to make everyone happy. And what you're left with, is a product without a purpose, beyond being widely appealing and therefore, marketable.

Re: MindsEye Is Comfortably the Worst Reviewed PS5 Game of 2025

J2theEzzo

Game releases in a broken mess; game gets universally panned by critics; customers are issued refunds from digital stores, considering the dire state of the game at release; game goes on to sell relatively well, regardless.

Isn't this just further indication of the current woeful state of the gaming industry? Between corporate hacks ruining long beloved franchises, to the ever present need and chase for "live-service, always online" never-ending games that cost (and make) millions every month. It'd be nice to have less games, and more originality. Something that dares to release in a (shock) completed state, with all content included, that won't expect you to pay and play forever, like a cog in its machine.

Re: 'We Won't Make the Same Mistakes Again': Sony Reflects on PS5's Catastrophic Concord

J2theEzzo

@Korgon I do wonder how big the reception to Tokon would have been if Marvel weren't attached?

Like, would Rivals have picked up so much traction, if they hadn't paid for the license, like they originally intended not to...

I could imagine a team based fighter, using Sony IP, could do well, as an unexpected curveball. And they have a good backlog of characters that they seem to hate to utilise, but making it a Marvel game is obviously opening the floodgates to a much wider audience.
