Sony’s upcoming Resident Evil movie reboot, which will be produced by PS Productions, has started to make casting announcements.
The industrious Paul Walter Hauser, who just starred in The Fantastic Four: First Steps and Naked Gun, will join the previously announced Austin Abrams in this new take on Capcom’s iconic survival horror franchise.
It’s unclear who the two actors will play, but we know the movie is scheduled to release on 18th September, 2026 – just a year from now.
Weapons director Zach Cregger will helm the project, using a script he’s co-writing with Shay Hatten.
Unfortunately, we still don’t have any plot details, but in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, he explains that his take on the long-running franchise will feature an “entirely original story”.
He says:
“When you watch it, you'll be like, ‘This is very Zach.’ It's just it takes place in the Resident Evil world. I don't think fans of the games are gonna be bummed. I’m not gonna steal Leon and put him in an original story. I think that would be presumptuous. But I respect the games enough where I'm gonna like tell a Resident Evil story in the Resident Evil canon that still leaves everything intact from the games.”
