Re: Horizon Forbidden West's Rumoured Complete Edition Tipped for PC

GreatAuk

@PixelDragon if I was super obsessed with games where I'd spend a ton of money on a gaming PC I'd probably own a PS5 and Switch as well.

I'd want to play every game on whatever platform they were available on.

I knew some kids growing up with more means than my family that owned both the Nintendo NES/SNES and the Genesis.

I even knew one kid that had the NES/SNES, Genesis and the Turbografx-16.

Talk about obsessed lol

@PixelDragon

I too can build a top of the line cutting edge PC if I really wanted to (it would be a complete waste of money, though.)

I chose to have a computer in the ~1500 range instead.

If someone can build a beast of a PC just to play games (which would easily be north of 2k) why not spend another 400 to have a PS5?

Only a gaming obsessed person would shell out that kind of money for a PC; a serious gamer wouldn't want to play Horizon or The Last of Us when it comes out? Two years is a long time to wait when you love to play games.

It seems to me the investment into the PS5 is miniscule for the type of people who have the means to build a serious gaming PC. And those type of people really like games, so why not also buy a PS5?

If it's because they can't stand to play at checkerboard 4k or under 120 fps then if the game doesn't come to PC they don't get to play it at all. Might as well buy the console.

I just don't see why they wouldn't.

@PixelDragon if anything this post makes the case for PC users to buy a PlayStation. They get an amazing gaming machine for potentially under 400.

So why aren't they then? Why are they willing to wait two years to play game that may come to PC? Why don't they just buy the PS5 then? There are plenty of them available in stock now and they're even being discounted.

Re: Horizon Forbidden West's Rumoured Complete Edition Tipped for PC

Call me petty but I don't care, first party games should remain Sony console exclusives, I don't care if they came out 5 years ago.

One day when the PlayStation console becomes just an "optional but not required to play Sony games" prebuilt PC you'll understand.

You know damned well that developers are probably already designing games with the PC in mind if they release them there in under two years. So you can kiss optimization for the console goodbye.

And I bet that window between console and PC release will shrink over time.

If PC players want to play Sony games they should buy a PlayStation. How antiquated of me!

Btw I own both a pretty decent PC and a PS5.

Re: Looks Like One of PS5's Best Games Is Getting a Complete Edition

@trev666 I generally agree with you and others, 1st one is 9/10 but the 2nd is a 7/10, for me.

Something about the second one that just didn't live up to my hopes. Maybe it's the fact that I already knew everything about the world.

A lot of the wonder from the first game was when I first stumbled into a cave underground and saw all that technology.

We also had Aloy develop as a character in the first; in the second, like someone said, she was well known and always treated like a god.

And the dialogue from Aloy was kind of annoying. She talked way too much, was always sounding down, and gave hints about what to do within 10 seconds of showing up to any new area.

I don't know what they will do in the third game, but I hope they can recapture some of that magic, wonder and mystery from the first game.

@ChakaL00T If it makes you feel any better I bought a mini split heat pump in 2021 and only after 2 years there's a coolant leak that the guys that installed it can't even find. And they charged me 300 dollars just for adding coolant back in and now two months later the coolant is gone again!

Sometimes we're unlucky. I have a problem with electronics, I'm always thinking they're on the verge of breaking down on me.

Re: PS5 Sales Spike a Staggering 116% in Europe

@AhmadSumadi I will agree the video game industry is different from other industries as laziness and complacency is a little harder to get away with compared to other industries.

I also don't think Sony is lazy or complacent (yet.) I do think though that if the XBOX One was more competitive, we would see more risks from Sony and less remakes/remasters.

As much as I love games from older generations, I'd rather see exciting new IPs. Developers are a finite supply, if you have people working on remakes and remasters, you have less people working on new IPs.

Re: PS5 Sales Spike a Staggering 116% in Europe

GreatAuk

@AhmadSumadi This comment makes no sense because that would mean theoretically, the best way to drive the maximum amount of innovation and creativity would be to eliminate all the competition.

No competition means you don't have to try as hard, this is simple economics and the reason we have anti-monopoly laws.

Re: PS5 Sales Spike a Staggering 116% in Europe

@naruball I don't think Sony is complacent or lazy (at the moment.) I'm saying I don't want them to become like that one day because of a lack of competition. That hurts us the players. Nobody thought Intel would ever get lazy either but they did.

Sony is still pushing strong because they still have momentum from their blockbuster PS4 console.

I do think that if the latest XBOX systems were neck and neck with the PS4 and/or PS5, we would have less remakes and remasters and more original content and more risk taking.

@PsBoxSwitchOwner

My comment was more a general statement, not necessarily an approval of the acquisition. I'm not sure how I feel about the acquisition. I know my position sounds boring but like everything in the real world and not how they are portrayed on the internet, things are nuanced and complex.

Ideally Microsoft doesn't have to buy other studios to be competitive. For example the Ori games were fantastic and they were developed internally.

And I disagree with @naruball with regards to competition. The PS4 succeeded because they got their butt whipped with the PS3. That was the catalyst to getting Sony to refocus on their mission.

I know in the end both the PS3 and 360 sold similar amount of consoles, but the XBOX 360 sales exploded (almost 4 times more console sales) compared to the original XBOX while the PS3 sold only half as many as the PS2 sales figures.

That's a failure. I honestly believe that without a successful XBOX 360, we wouldn't have the successful PS4.

Re: PS5 Sales Spike a Staggering 116% in Europe

GreatAuk

If you want a successful Sony, you want a competitive XBOX. I don't get the XBOX bashing from some posters.

A weak XBOX will just bring complacency and laziness from Sony.

Look at what happened to Intel.

So if you're a Sony fan (and I am one) I want to see a successful and competitive XBOX.

@Jimmer-jammer I say Sony and Microsoft liquidate all their assets and fire their combined 350,000 employees and take that money and feed and shelter people around the world.

Anyone who engages in gaming is a greedy capitalist that enjoys watching good money and resources go to frivolous activities instead of feeding starving people.

@Eagly Some people want the most mundane, meaningless work to pay a livable wage. That's not realistic. I'm not saying that's what these workers are btw just to be clear. I'm making a more general statement.

Were they earning an unlivable wage? I don't know.

I am actually quite pro union but when someone like McDonald's or Starbucks workers unionize I think it's silly and takes away from the importance of the pro union message.

Does this game have a solid story and campaign?

I never got into Harry Potter. That also means I know practically zero references and characters. Can someone with zero knowledge of this world enjoy the game?

The game does look good and I might consider trying it just like I would consider any other game if it had a good story, fun combat and good graphics.

Re: The Order 1886's Dev Ripped Apart by Facebook Owner After Acquisition

GreatAuk

The Order: 1886 was a fun game that I enjoyed very much despite being short.

The world was amazing, the technology was amazing, the characters were very likeable and the story is very entertaining.

It's also one of the best games I've ever seen graphics wise, it blows most other games out of the water.

There was and IS incredible potential in this IP and for years I have been hoping Sony would do something with it.

I'm still holding out hope.
