Re: PS5 Pro was a '5-Year Project', In Development Before PS5's Launch

@tameshiyaku

It wasn't a precalculated Achilles heel. They could have easily designed a system that didn't compromise between frames and resolution, sure, but it would have cost a fortune and people would have been in an uproar.

They can acknowledge that they knew players don't want to compromise on their desired 4k/60fps AND design a far superior system to the PS4 Pro at the same time, while still not being able to totally address the compromises they mentioned for a reasonable price.

There is nothing out of the ordinary, contradictory, or sinister about this whole situation.

Nope. I bought the game in 2017. I don't even remember the free giveaway and I don't think I've would have taken it anyway since I already owned the game and had finished it.

I didn't think they'd release a diskless version of the PS5 I was defacto forced to get the digital only version since there were no disk versions in stock. I got into the Sony store with their lottery system after trying a million times and failing, so I wasn't about to not buy the PS5 because it didn't come with a disk player.

@NEStalgia

I bought this game on disk for the PS4, and now I own a digital PS5. There is no way for me to upgrade for $10. Trust me, I know for sure, it explicitly says it on their website.

I wish they'd come up with a system for us. Maybe we can mail in our disk copy to Sony and we receive a one time use code to install on one Sony account.

@NEStalgia if it was any other culture (outside Europe) it would be a very very BIG issue.

If they're going to use and exploit my people's stories and creations for profit they can at least employ a Greek or Greek decendant to play Kratos.

But I don't expect that type of consistency from Hollywood.

I think where I have a problem is when the latest Western "activists" or whatever you want to call them tell me that even basic femininity is sexist. I'm talking about even just faces, forget about figures.

Most of us don't actually care that much about huge boobs or butt in characters. Most of us do want our characters to look feminine though (and we also want the men to be masculine and strong too!)

Lately there's been a push to make way too many female characters appear androgynous (I hope that's not some type of trigger word, which I don't see why it would be since we are having a sensible conversation) and that people demanding Stellar Blade style characters everywhere is a kneejerk backlash to all of that.

Just give me Lara Croft from the latest trilogy

She was beautiful and she didn't have an over the top Barbie look either.

I don't think that many people actually cared that she had muscles. Again, it's a vocal minority just like we hear on the other side of this issue.

I think most people had a problem with Abby because of what she did to Joel.

I am in a small minority that actually likes Abby more than Ellie! She really grew on my during the game and if we're being totally objective we should be able to understand her perspective and not hold it against her.

And her physique fits her storyline. No shoehorning there.

Re: Assassin's Creed Shadows Hasn't Removed Yasuke, But Dev Focused on Historical Accuracy

@Callmegil

I am saying that Ubisoft perused through all of Japanese history, found one black guy and said, "we finally have our source material!"

Otherwise this game as is would not exist. If they had found one Korean or Chinese guy in Japan named Yasuke, there would be no Ubisoft game being made about Yasuke.

It's just the arrogant West's ransacking through another country's history, finding something that the current western creators find to be something very important to them personally, and designing an entire game around what is a historical anomaly.

If someone made a game about an ancient sub Saharan African kingdom and they made the protagonist about the one instance where a white guy happened to be there I would be annoyed and I would question the creator's motives behind that decision.

You don't agree? Or am I being unreasonable?

I know what you're doing here with this post and it's very sly.

You are discussion moderation without outwardly mentioning it so that you can not get your post blocked while at the same time try to force this site's moderation into enforcing your belief structure across the commentary by baiting them into thinking that they're allowing racists to thrive here.

It's very impressive what you did with a seemingly short, innocent post, I must say.

Just to be clear, I MYSELF AM NOT DISCUSSING MODERATION.

There is no racism here. None. Just because you say there is doesn't make it so. To accuse people here of holding such views is baseless and wrong.

@NEStalgia

I only brought up tvs vs monitors because most people don't have their PC nearby the living room TV. And most people will absolutely not hook up their PC to a TV.

Ironically I'm actually not most people. Not only did I used to have my PC hooked up to a big TV but I also had it hooked up to a projector haha. I also did the same for my Xbox 360.

Today the PS5 is nestled nicely inside the TV stand underneath one of LG's 77 inch OLEDs. There is no way I'd game on a diminutive monitor when the OLED is available.

Hey man that's what Digital Foundry said, we're talking about people who are all in on PC tech. I would certainly hope they know what they're talking about.

BTW I've been building desktops since I was 14.

But for me I never got into gaming on a PC. The last thing I want to do is fiddle around with settings for 20 minutes to squeeze an extra few frames out of a PC.

I just love the plug and play ability of a console.

For what you get at $699 it's unmatched in the PC world.

I'll give you the online subscription argument. But for me personally I don't play online anyway. But I do acknowledge that that cost affects a lot of players.

Another argument could be made that a console allows you to easily play on a large TV instead of being stuck with a much smaller monitor.

Most PC gamers play on a monitor. I'd rather play on a giant OLED.

Digital Foundry said the equivalent card is a 4070 which sell for 550 to 600.

Throw in the rest of the system, pretty much the best controller on the market and proprietary tech like PSSR and you can't really even compare an equivalent PC costs wise.

The beard was an iconic part of Joel's look.

Now they casted Dever for Abby, when we all know damned well that Abby is supposed to be buff and it's a core part of her personality/character.

The casting director has one job, but apparently they suck at it. If you're ok with that that's fine. I don't have to be though.

@NEStalgia

I personally hope that Microsoft crushes it. I want their next system to wildly successful. I want it to blow people away. And I also want them to take a big hit on each console so that they can keep the price outrageously low and record huge sales numbers.

We need to keep Sony on their toes. Otherwise we stagnate like Intel did during their chip hegemony days.

Re: Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's Huge PS5 Pro Enhancements Are a 'Vast Improvement'

GreatAuk

I mentioned in another PS5 Pro article that Digital Foundry said the Pro has the equivalent of a 4070. Those cards sell for between 550 and 600. Just the card.

The Pro is also giving you 2TB of high speed storage, a compact size, and one of the best controllers on the market, plus all the other components that go into creating a modern gaming machine.

It also has the PSSR system which can be improved via software updates over time.

For $699, when you realize what you're getting, it's actually a pretty good deal.
