Re: God of War Ragnarok on PS5 Runs at Up to 120fps, Four Graphics Modes

@NeonPizza Dude the 65 inch Samsung QD OLED is $2000 and that's the cheapest it's ever been.

I bought the 77 inch OLED CX from LG and it was the greatest investment in consumer technology I've ever made.

I noticed discussions about the brightness of OLEDs and I'm stuck wondering what they're talking about. I'm in an average lit room with two windows, one a big bay window. Brightness is at 50 and daytime viewing is fine.

When watching at night with Dolby Vision the screen can make me literally squint my eyes from the brightness.

@palmab it's not underpowered, it costs 400 dollars. I picked the digital price btw because $100 more for the disc version has no effect on graphical output. So we are really talking about a $400 gaming device.

It's not easy pushing half a billion pixels per second at that price point, especially when the game is intense.

Re: Silent Hill 2 PS5 Remake Announced as a Console Exclusive

GreatAuk

@Juanalf It's actually not the car, it's the autopilot or some other exclusive software feature.

The point is to sell cars. You're not going to sell cars if every other car maker provides the same exact experience and features for basically the same cost.

The developer no doubt got a lump sum. Everybody wins. Except Xbox and PC players.

But I don't care about them anyway. Not saying that in a mean way, more like indifference.

Re: HBO's The Last of Us Ellie 'Encouraged Not' to Play the Games

GreatAuk

@xjulianvel I am sure it will be at least satisfactory. I just don't understand why they would leave out such an iconic part of Joel's appearance.

Might as well make Ellie blonde while we're at it.

It might also be that Pedro to me looks exactly the same in all the roles I've seen him, the same mustache. If Oberyn put on a metal suit he'd turn into the Mandalorian.

Which is a shame because he has a good face for Joel. There is ONE picture of Pedro that an artist from the show released on what Pedro might look like if he played Joel when they were still working on casting. That pic is so good. It's a shame really. Google "Pedro Joel new image" and you'll see it in the results.

Re: HBO's The Last of Us Ellie 'Encouraged Not' to Play the Games

Shockingly I had never watched GOT until I binged it this August and September (it was rereleased in HDR and 4K this August so I figured this was a good time to watch it.)

I really like Bella Ramsey now, more than I did before I had watched GOT and had heard of her being cast in The Last of Us.

I would have loved Pedro more too if he would just grow a goddam beard lol. I just can't get over it, it really really bothers me that he basically looks the same in every single role he plays.

He has a great face for Joel but no beard = no dice for me.

Re: HBO's The Last of Us Ellie 'Encouraged Not' to Play the Games

GreatAuk

@Totheteeth and this can only be done (expand the audience) by telling the actors not to actually play the game from which the show is directly ripped from?

If people are going into this fresh, then they don't know any better. But for the tens of millions of people who know and played the game worldwide, why have their experience diminished?

The correct choice is to have the actors know EXACTLY how the game was so that everyone is happy, players and the new audience.

Re: Sony Will Continue to Make PS4 Games Moving Forwards

GreatAuk

As of July 2022 and this is despite the supply chain issues:

"The PS5 has sold 21.83 million units in 21 months, while the PS4 sold 24.56 million units."

So the PS5 despite all the hurdles has been tracking closely to PS4 sales.

Were they still releasing and more importantly PLANNING major titles for the PS3 two years later after the PS4's release?

If yes, then I'm ok with still releasing PS4 games since there is precedent. If no, then this is a money grab and nothing more.

Re: The Last of Us TV Trailer Revealed, Out Next Year

GreatAuk

@Futureshark They should go with my idea of killing Ellie at the end of season 1 and Joel goes ballistic in season 2 and goes hunting for all those who were responsible for her death.

Of course side effect is all of humanity is saved (except the people Joel kills in season 2.)

Am I the only one that thought Ellie should have been sacrificed at the end of Part 1?

Re: The Last of Us TV Trailer Revealed, Out Next Year

@SmoothlyRough Pascal needs a full beard. It really bugs me that he doesn't. Maybe I'm overreacting.

Someone mentioned this here but he looks the same to me in everything I've seen him in: Game of Thrones, The Mandalorian, and now The Last of Us. It's like all he does is change his shirt lol even though the characters he's played are very very different from each other.

Re: Stroke the Dog 2,000 Times for 71 PS5, PS4 Trophies

GreatAuk

@Fight_Teza_Fight what is the point of having platinum trophies? Does Sony reward you with free stuff or something?

Paying for trophies or doing some ridiculous task like petting a dog for a trophy is akin to cheating in a game. The win is meaningless.

Are people really that pathetic?

Re: Resident Evil Village Looks Like a New Game in Third-Person

GreatAuk

@Blackmagehobbit I really dislike the first person perspective but I bought Resident Evil 7 anyway because I really like the series and I got used to it.

If it's well implemented it can be ok. I played Resident Evil 8 and I thought it was amazing even as first person.

That being said the third person looks really good.

Re: Round Up: Forspoken Previews Prove It's More Than a Meme

GreatAuk

I think the game looks pretty cool actually despite the corniness of the main character.

What I don't understand is why they picked someone who is not American when their game character is. They had to pretend to be something they didn't identify as and so they had to impersonate being an American when they are actually British.

Someone here who can't handle me reading and responding to their posts so they blocked me from seeing them (because I'm so triggering I guess) basically made that argument to me; that whatever the mocapped actor identifies as in real life is supposed to be perfectly copied into the game character.

So why is someone who is British pretending to be an American? Are there no women of color in the United States that could have used this job?

Re: PS5 Overtakes Switch as UK's Best-Selling Console of 2022

GreatAuk

@naruball

The 20GB PS3 model sold for $500 which is the equivalent of $760 dollars today or $910 for the 60Gb model.

Don't forget in the USA those numbers don't include taxes, average sales taxes would make those numbers around $820 and $980.

We're not getting hosed as bad as a lot of people think we are regarding the PS5 prices.

Re: PS5 Overtakes Switch as UK's Best-Selling Console of 2022

GreatAuk

@naruball "they could sell them at a loss and more than make up for it with subscriptions, games, microtransactions, etc."

Ew microtransactions? Really? I'd rather pay 600 for a PS5 if it meant no microtransactions. It's one of the most hated components of gaming and you'd rather have more of that than cough up another 50 upfront?

Re: Digital Foundry Tech Review Shows Just How Far The Last of Us: Part I Has Come

GreatAuk

What a ridiculous analogy. Food is constantly needed to survive and once you eat it it's gone.

Let's just ignore the fact that one is sustenance and the other is entertainment, an extreme case of apples to oranges:

If I play the Last of Us Remaster it doesn't vanish after I complete it. The disk and/or file doesn't disintegrate right after completion.I can go ahead and play it again. Your loaf of bread isn't coming back.

If the bakery made you vomit your bread, reformed it into a loaf, baked it, and sprinkled some new sesame seeds on top and charged you more than they did the first loaf you bought and vomited, then it would MAYBE make sense as an analogy.

@Cyrus29 Everyone seems pretty calm and discussing in good faith, I'm not sure where the "internet is being set on fire."

Sounds like hyperbole to me.

And no, a couple of random tweets is not evidence of the internet being set on fire, no more than Kim Kardashian's butt "broke the internet."

Hyperbolic nonsense.
