Re: Meet the Actress Behind Aloy's New Ally in Horizon Forbidden West's PS5 DLC

GreatAuk

@Keyblade-Dan

You can call me pathetic if it makes you feel better. I just made an observation that twice now the same developer in the same game series has characters that don't quite match up to their real life models. Others see it too since they were trying to justify why feminine women wouldn't exist in this post-apocalyptic world.

@Flaming_Kaiser

I don't appreciate you de facto calling me a horrible gamer. Why? Because I don't think the game character quite matches up to the actress? Yes, what a horrible person I am.

@Jey887

Who's trolling? No one. Either you don't know the definition of the word or you're one of those people who calls anyone a troll simply for stating something that doesn't fit your opinions or beliefs. I am arguing in good faith. You may think my argument is stupid and that's fine, but it's not trolling.

@Allfather

It's an Auk, not a penguin. The Auk was a creature of the Northern Hemisphere, penguins are only in the Southern Hemisphere. The Auk is in the genus Pinguinus and is not related to the Penguin. When European explorers (who were already very familiar with the Auk) traveled to the Southern Hemisphere, they saw similar looking creatures and called them "Penguins" due to their resemblance to Auks.

@WallyWest

Does Lara Croft look like a porn star in the Tomb Raider series? What a ridiculous argument. And it's not appropriate for you to assume my personal life due to some observational posts I have made. That's quite the stretch. Who are you trying to get a high five from here?

My wife and children are quite happy and I make enough income for my wife to stay at home and raise them full time. So don't worry about me and my interaction with "girls" in the real world. Those comments are silly.

All this because I said Seyka doesn't look as feminine as her real life model lol and you think I have the problem?

Re: Meet the Actress Behind Aloy's New Ally in Horizon Forbidden West's PS5 DLC

GreatAuk

@themightyant So if you are correct then Guerrilla is choosing less feminine models deliberately, because they only look feminine in glamorous headshots?

Unless you think you think all natural movement by a woman results in a more masculine look? I know you don't believe that.

In the new Tomb Raider trilogy they mocapped Camilla Luddington beautifully. How did that developer manage to capture the feminine nature of that actress without making her look like a plastic Barbie doll?

I was just making an observation because this is now the second character in the same game series where her appearance doesn't look like what I expected when looking at the actress.

I am not hung up on it, in fact I said the game character looks good in a previous article for Burning Shores. Only now with this article do I see that they didn't quite line up the game character with the actress.

I think it's weird that you're defending Guerrilla so hard and that you can't recognize even if it's just a little bit that Aloy and Seyka look less feminine than their live models.

Re: Meet the Actress Behind Aloy's New Ally in Horizon Forbidden West's PS5 DLC

GreatAuk

@themightyant

My friend, to say that a feminine woman is an unrealistic ideal because the only way they can look that way is through Photoshop is insulting.

I gave you the benefit of the doubt and so I quickly googled the actress and in every single stance she has that same pointy chin and inward sloping jawlines. That's just her face man. Look her up yourself.

How about Aloy's model? Have you seen her in video? She looks much more feminine than Aloy. And she wasn't dolled up in the video nor was it a professional headshot for a magazine.

I think you're trying to paint me as one of those " I want fake boobs and Barbie or she's not good enough to be a woman game character" people and I think that's unfortunate.

Re: Meet the Actress Behind Aloy's New Ally in Horizon Forbidden West's PS5 DLC

GreatAuk

@nomither6 @themightyant @Flaming_Kaiser

My friends, a couple of points:

Femininity is not the awful fake Barbie version of Aloy. It's actually kind of insulting to women to imply that the only way they can be feminine is to look like a clown. So we can scratch that right from the get go.

Second, this is only a post apocalyptic society on a technical level. This isn't The Last Of Us post-apocalyptic. Humans have existed for a thousand years in Horizon. They have built cities as large as Meridien for crying out loud. They have cultures, traditions, customs, unique clothing, agriculture, etc. These aren't cavemen from 100,000 years ago.

I'd like to reiterate that the facial structure of the game character is not the same as the model. It's obvious that her jawline was made more square (a biologically masculine feature.) They have taken away her cheekbones and dramatically altered her chin/jaw line for some reason. If you mocap that actress model there is no way a 1:1 mapping turns into the face of the game character.

This isn't about gaudy makeup and pearly white teeth. Although I can promise you the women of Meridien could have taken that route if they chose to. Again, these people aren't grunting cave dwellers.

Geurrilla is changing the facial structure of their actresses to make them less feminine. Only Geurrilla knows why.

Re: Meet the Actress Behind Aloy's New Ally in Horizon Forbidden West's PS5 DLC

GreatAuk

@ChrisDeku Why?

First, they're identical genetically to 21st century humans. Second, for most of human civilization it basically was the equivalent of the societies you see in the games.

Feminine women didn't only first appear post WW2. This is a silly, deliberate change that they are making.

In the games characters have unique hairstyles, makeup, a wide variety of clothing styles, etc. Your point makes no sense.

Re: Journey to LA in Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores Launch Trailer

GreatAuk

I like the look of the new female character. The old man looked good too. These models look a bit higher quality to me at first glance.

I really wished that it wasn't a warm climate again that the DLC was taking place in though.

I much prefer the boreal/deciduous forest locales from the games. Especially since we spent most of our time in the last third of Forbidden West in an environment that looks very similar to Burning Shores, I was hoping it would get switched up a bit.

Hopefully what we see in the trailer isn't the entire environment.

Re: Resident Evil 4's Ada Wong Responds to Social Media Abuse

GreatAuk

@LN78

You're not 100% wrong. I only get annoyed in certain situations. I don't care about voice acting unless you're trying to do accurate accents.

I only care about actors matching the character's appearance if it's a historical or cultural work.

Otherwise it's fine.

The "progressives" I keep harping about get upset about ANY white person playing a voice acting or live action role that they seem should go to a person of color. But they have zero problems with persons of color playing white characters of any type, whether fictional, historical, or cultural.

Black Little Mermaid? No problem!
Black Kratos No problem!
Black Alexander Hamilton? No problem!

The reverse would never happen, ever, even for completely made up characters created by white men 50 years ago (Black Panther.)

There would be protests and boycotts and other actions being called for on good ol' social media.

The hypocrisy bothers me the most.

Re: Resident Evil 4's Ada Wong Responds to Social Media Abuse

GreatAuk

@LN78

You say it's hypothetical but I'm already seeing "lists" of potential actors for the live action God Of War series and there are several black actors recommended to play Kratos. Which I think is absurd and insulting.

And my friend, the progressives can't even handle voice acting being out of the ethnicity or race of the pretend character, I promise you they'd lose their minds if a white actor played any person of color, doesn't matter if it's a pretend character.

Re: Resident Evil 4's Ada Wong Responds to Social Media Abuse

GreatAuk

@LN78 I care because if they wanted anyone to play the character then they could have not used a people's cultural creations to do it.

My family is from Greece but I'm an American so I have some skin in this game.

If a white character played any Black Panther main character the enlightened ones would blow a gasket, and that's just a made up comic book story created by two white men.

So yea I would find it extremely irritating that they used my family's cultural inheritance and creations as the basis of their product and then did the "progressive" thing and casted a minority in the role.

The hypocrisy is what bothers me the most.

What if a game was made about Ethiopian gods and they casted Ryan Reynolds to play the main god? Exactly.

Re: Horizon Forbidden West's PS5 Exclusive DLC Has Another Staggering Settlement to Explore

GreatAuk

I'm not the biggest fan of the warm locations or their settlements. They obviously looks pretty but they don't get me excited as much as they probably should.

I LOVE the cold environments and their settlements much more.

Some of my favorite environments were around Yellowstone and of the boreal/deciduous forests as you approached the snow covered landscapes in both games, especially the first one.

I love the palette of colors used in those environments, almost tundra-like in their ground or near-ground level plants.

I also want to see a comparison of graphics in the DLC to the main game. I want to see how much the PS4 held the game back.

Re: TV Show Review: The Last of Us (HBO) Episode 8 - Streamlining Hollows Out Iconic Moments

GreatAuk

@MayaMousavi Gagaooolala acknowledged that some people truly disliked something based on that.

But episode 3 is literally just an episode about two men in love and it still has an 8 out of 10, clearly the people who don't like something because there's something LGBT related in it are few and far between. Other episodes are in the 8s as well even though they don't centralize any type of LGBT themes.

Episode 7 is the only episode below an 8 and rightly so. It was unbelievably boring. I watched it the whole way through just to say I've watched it.

Meanwhile my second favorite episode (tied for 2nd) was Episode 3.

What this show needs is more infected.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think of The Last of Us - Episode 8?

GreatAuk

Compared to the absolute bore fest of last week this week's episode feels like it should be nominated for awards.

I agree with Ambassador though, that the show does tell us what to think too much. It doesn't bother me tremendously but it's still annoying that the showrunners dictate our morality and judgements for us.

Like others have mentioned, there is so little interaction with the actual infected that they could have removed them entirely and still been able to have almost this exact same show. That part is very disappointing.

Re: Hogwarts Legacy Soars with 12 Million Copies Sold in First Two Weeks

GreatAuk

@Clankylad No Switch version, no PS4 version, no Xbox One version.

This is a massive install base that hasn't even gotten the chance to purchase yet, so these sales are extremely impressive! Not bad for a game many sites "who lean a certain way" pretend doesn't even exist! 😂

I hope this game crushes all sales figures.

Re: Idiots on the Internet Are Still Abusing Abby from The Last of Us 2's Face Model

GreatAuk

One person writes an idiotic message. Wow. Big deal.

You think if she did get messages like this all day every day you wouldn't know about it?

This is being amplified WAY out of proportion. People have no sense of perspective.

Look at all the blanket statements above about gamers being awful. You're all gamers too! Are you all awful?

This happens in other areas of life too, it's a human flaw to generalize from the specific.

I like Abby more than Ellie. How many people can say that? Lol not many I imagine.

Media (and personal brands) like to sensationalize ANYTHING and employ intense hyperbole so it that will bring more clicks or polish their credentials amongst their peers.

This is silly.

Re: Hogwarts Legacy Tops Japanese Charts as PS5 Domination Continues

GreatAuk

@stvevan My position is that I agree with you. I just find it amusing that the people trying to boycott Hogwarts Legacy probably don't hold such intense feelings regarding Nintendo despite being partly owned by a government that literally kills LGBT people. Actually kills them. People love to employ intense levels of hyperbole, but what Saudi Arabia does is no exaggeration. And yet crickets regarding boycotting Nintendo products, boycotting the upcoming movie, etc.

I think if people did care we would have heard all about it online like we did their feelings regarding this game.

Re: Hogwarts Legacy Tops Japanese Charts as PS5 Domination Continues

GreatAuk

I feel if you're going to truly boycott something, it should be Nintendo. The Saudi Arabian government now owns 7.08% of the company.

Put aside their atrocious record on human rights such as how they treat women (or journalists) this is a place that just being a member of the LGBT community is illegal and the punishment ranges from lashings up to execution. This is state sponsored terrorism on innocent people for literally just existing.

Of course you don't hear much about this because boycotting Nintendo would be a very unpopular position for gamers as well as the websites that cater to them.

If only the people who whined about Chris Pratt being the voice of Mario because they think his church may have said they are against gay marriage or something knew that if Martinet was the voice they would happily buy a ticket and directly fill the coffers of a government who executes LGBT people.

Re: Poll: Did You Buy Hogwarts Legacy?

GreatAuk

I never read the books and never watched the movies, I know I'm an exception. The game does look amazing though and my daughter really loves the world so I'd be buying for her.

I'd have probably bought this for myself at some point anyway even if she didn't like the world because I appreciate a high quality single player game. I never got into multiplayer.

Re: Actress Ella Balinska Has Seen Your PS5 Forspoken Memes, And She Ain't Fussed

GreatAuk

@NEStalgia I was told by someone who blocked me that however an actor identifies in real life is exactly what the character they're mocapping is in the game as well.

So you don't understand, it's not that Frey is actually an American from New York, she's actually a Brit 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 to be an American from New York.

I hope I clarified things for you!
