I think Sony will have to start showing all first party games on the Pro. Also I think the added power would be better used to up the frame rates rather than resolution when most people will be watching the stream at 1080 or 720.
I'm a little surprised Rise of the Tomb Raider didn't make the list. I guess everyone is still mad about the timed exclusivity. It's my personal game of the year for 2016
@SegaBlueSky External HDD are cheaper because generally they're 3.5" instead of 2.5". Also unless you're using a PSPro USB 3.0 is a faster connection than SATA 2.0
@johncalmc If you completed all the side missions you could max your readiness without touching the multiplayer. But it still felt like a janky tacked on mess.
I originally didn't think no external assets was a big deal, but this also includes things like script extender. Which if Skyrim is any indication was required for most of the more creative mods. However I'm glad I can finally put ballistic weave on my vault suit. Especially since the base game let me put it on a sequence red dress.
The biggest complaint I have is the HDD. 2TB should be standard unless Sony finally wants to allow external storage. I'd be very tempted to upgrade if I hadn't just spent $150 on a new HDD for my OG PS4.
I'm waiting until we get a couple full length AAA games that just wouldn't be possible without VR. Everything I've seen so far has been smaller indie games or what basically amount to tech demos.
I don't think I saw a single comment complaining about Knack not being included. I guess I can add one more highly acclaimed indie game to my backlog of shame.
@Toe-knee If Game is anything like EB Games in Canada I can guarantee you if you are even a moderately informed consumer you know more about what you plan to buy than the guy running the demo. So the whole extra cost is B.S.
@get2sammyb If you look on Bethesda.net there are quite a few weapon and armour mods with unique textures. I'm pretty sure Xbox players can download them.
I find I just really don't have the time or desire anymore to play games on their highest difficulty. Having never played any of the series I picked up the collection. I'm part way through 2 and have no desire to move the difficulty off the default. Trophies aren't worth frequent rage quits, but that's just my situation. I've also come to the shocking realization that as someone who has been an avid gamer for 30 years I suck at shooters.
At the original price it was worth it if you enjoyed the settlement building. At the increased price I don't think it was worth it. I would guess that more than half of what was in the workshop packs were textures and models already in the base game so very little work required. Also it is completely justified to compare DLC from Fallout 3 to 4 and that don't even compare.
@get2sammyb I don't think a conference streamed online was really the best way to show the differences. I started watching on my iPhone but then realized it was almost pointless. I don't own anything 4K or HDR so I saw virtually no difference.
@NoCode23 I'd be happy with mods that fix some of the haywire decisions Bethesda made. Like what can receive ballistic weave or perks not actually working the way they say they should. But mods were Beth's get out of jail free card so they didn't have to worry about fixing these problems.
@BLPs Pretty much bang on. I will say that in every console generation whoever did well the previous gen usually gets way too full of themselves. Sega after the Genesis, Sony after the PS2, Nintendo and Microsoft after the Wii and 360. It's like no console manufacturer can remember what made them successful and that people won't just buy your system based on your name.
Maybe Sony should have released a statement, I don't know, about 4 months ago saying due to potential security risks mods won't be coming. Instead they let Bethesda take a lot of heat over something that was out of their control.
All the people wanting Obsidian to be the developer must be forgetting how New Vegas was borderline unplayable when it launched. Granted once it was patched it was a great game.
I'm really trying to not be too cynical here; but I guess this means by next Christmas every new game will run at 4K/30fps or 1080p/60fps on the pro and my launch console will be advertised as 1080p/30fps but will really be upscaled 900p and probably average around 22-25fps.
1TB isn't enough, unless Sony wants to pull their collective heads out of their butts and allow external HDD support. It should have a 2TB drive. Game sizes are only going to get bigger now that 4K is supported. I guess we'll never see game footage running on a original PS4 ever again.
I was an Xbox live subscriber for 4 years on my 360 I don't think it went down once. I've been a PSN subscriber for about 20 months and I can't even count the number of times it's been down. If you are going to charge a premium price for a service you really should make sure it works. Sony has had just as much time as anyone else to build their online infrastructure yet they seem to be in the worst spot.
The last time I looked at it the selection wasn't the greatest. Besides every game ever released last gen will eventually get a remaster anyway. I can hardly wait for Haze: The Definitive Edition.
@get2sammyb Definitely a solid selection, but I'd still rather no price hike. The problem I have with the majority of the games on offer is that if I really wanted to play them I would have bought them when they came out. I guess this month will be like most in that it adds to my almost insurmountable backlog.
I haven't noticed frame drops any worse than the vanilla game. But I'm sure a future patch to get rid of some sort of cap or xp exploit will tank my frame rate. I have a 2 year old laptop which doesn't technically even meet the minimum PC requirements and it runs the game better than my PS4. Hardware upgrades aren't the answer, as much as Sony and Microsoft want to tell us they are. Developers need to not release games until they are in a finished state. Fallout 4 like Skyrim before it probably should have been delayed on Sony consoles.
I personally don't care about 90% or more of the free games. And seeing as Canada is getting a price hike how about drop them entirely, lower the price and offer more frequent quality discounts.
@Kurome I think the problem people are having is if the season pass content is predominantly costumes and fluff with a little story thrown in then a big expansion comes which is not included. But all we can really do is take a wait and see approach. I personally hate seasons passes for this reason you never know what you're paying for.
Maybe it's time to stop giving out last generation games every month and put that plus the price hike money towards improving your online infrastructure.
I really enjoyed it for probably the first 10-15 hours. Now I still like it, but I only play for short spurts every couple of days. I think I like the idea of the game more than the actual game. I do wish the No Fun Police aka the sentinels would back off a little though. If they ever do add base building that would be cool having a place to store all your extra resources would be helpful. Also I would like to be able to ride some of the animals after I feed them.
I'm so happy! I get to pay $20 in Canada and my one year expires just in time for the customary PSN Christmas down time. What am I paying the extra for exactly? Some free games I'll never play or maybe OS features rolled out at a glacial pace.
I think Sony needs to adopt a similar policy as Valve did with Steam. I highly doubt it will happen though. They are in the driver's seat this generation and don't feel any sort of pressure to implement changes. I feel they are closing in on the same level of arrogance they had at the end of the PS2 era.
Wow, maybe now I can send Ashes back to vault 81. I've given up all hope for mods at this point. I should have just bought the game for PC even though my laptop would barely be able to run. I guess it wouldn't have been much different than the PS4.
Between this and charging full price for Rise of the Tomb Raider I'm starting to wonder about Square/Enix. I'm not even going to get started on the $20 iOS Final Fantasy games, or the Dues Ex preorder debacle, but it seems to me like they are completely out of touch.
I really love these games, but I tried playing the first one again about 6 months ago and anything to do with the Mako was about as much fun as hitting myself in the face with a brick. Also even though I probably put at least 100 hours in it does take a fair while to get going. I would love if the first one could be made to run on the 3 ones engine but that's not going to happen.
I'm super excited for a year from now when a console I paid $450 (that's the price in Canada) struggles to maintain 30fps. If I wanted to have to upgrade every 3 years I would build a gaming PC. Now developers will have the excuse that it's the old hardware and not a poorly optimized game. This is just a solution to a problem nobody had. Most people buy consoles for the simple plug and play that they offer. You know you're going to get a few years out of it, maybe longer if you hold out when the next gen comes out.
I'm not usually one for censorship but I really hope we don't end up with a bunch of things named Dick. But I definitely think the servers should be wiped.
External HDD support should have been day 1. Everyone knew 500gb wasn't going to be enough. I mean we all complained about the Wii U's 32gb but the games were 1/8 the size at the most and I could buy a usb drive for it day one. But I guess it doesn't matter now that I finally broke down and installed a 2tb in my PS4.

Re: Round Up: Everything You Need to Know About PS4 Firmware Update 4.50
One good thing with external HDD is USB 3.0 is faster than SATA 2.0. So unless you have a PS4 Pro an external drive should theoretically be faster.
Re: Poll: Are You Buying Horizon: Zero Dawn?
I really want to play this game but my backlog is out of control. I imagine I'll wait until Christmas like I did with Uncharted 4.

Re: Next PS4 Firmware Update Finally Brings External Hard Drive Support
Awesome. As a side noe because the OG PS4 used SATA 2.0 a USB 3 HDD could potentially be faster.
Re: Poll: Has Your PS4 Started to Run a Little Slower Lately?
I've noticed the What's New has been slow for awhile. But my first reaction is to always blame my ISP for throttling my speeds.

I voted for Terra because 6 is my favourite. Even though I never really felt like it had a true protagonist. Besides we all know Mog was the best.
