I don't have a problem with relatively easy games, or at least games that give an easier difficulty option. A challenge is nice, but sometimes - especially when I have a lot of games on my queue - I just want to experience the story without a lot of grinding.
Personally, I'd like to see a war game set in the Korean War or maybe the Yugoslav Wars. Call of Duty has done a really excellent job with the past three games when it comes to storytelling, and there's a LOT of relatively untapped potential in some of the more overlooked wars of the 20th Century.
If I didn't already have one, that lone wouldn't have been enough to tempt me. I got one for the prospect of 4K console gaming (same reason I'm hyped for Xbox One Scorpio).
@Deadcow I don't understand people who judge folks for their difficulty choice. You're playing the game, aren't you? That should be what's important, especially for a game like Resident Evil where the story and atmosphere are the most important parts. I'm playing on Normal, but I usually play games on Easy. No judgement here! =)
I'll probably pick up Final Fantasy XV eventually (same the Robinson), and I've got Infinite Warfare preordered, but honestly, I'm more excited about Killing Floor 2 on PS4 than any of those games. =P
I think the Switch will be great, but I absolutely love my Vita. It's still my favorite handheld of all time. I think the problem that both the Wii U and the Vita had was that it sort of tried to be both but not really. The Vita was definitely a handheld that acted like a gimped console; the Wii U was definitely a console that acted like it was sort of a handheld insomuch as you play a Vita or DS lounging on the sofa. Neither really did the whole "combo" thing well. The Switch, however, seems like it will finally do that hybridization right.
It may flop. I think Nintendo will finally get it right this time, though, by reaching that true middle ground - far more powerful than any handheld we've imagined while keeping with Nintendo's tendency to prioritize gameplay options over hardware prowess in home consoles. I'll continue to buy new Vita releases as long as they keep coming, and I'll mourn its loss when it finally does breathe its last. I'm a huge and lifelong Nintendo fan, so I'm optimistic that the Switch will be a great platform, but I'm also still unconvinced about a lot of things given the scarcity of concrete details, so I'm remaining skeptical for the time being.
I LOVED XCOM 2 (I finished it last night), but I definitely think the plethora of technical issues - at times severe - should put the PS4 version at a much lower score than 9. Personally, I'd give it a 7.
I'M SO EXCITED FOR PLAYSTATION VR. I wish there were a way (that's affordable) to simulate the other senses, but I'll take what I can get. This is gonna be SICK.
There were a decent number of games that ran at 60 fps on the N64. I get that Banjo-Kazooie wasn't one of them, but it's not like having 60 fps is somehow unauthentic for an N64 feel.
@johncalmc Same here. If it's a game that I know will be very long and very story-driven, I'll usually set it to Easy, at least until I get the hang of the mechanics. This stigma about playing on default or easy difficulties is ridiculous; the purpose of video games is to relax and enjoy your leisure time, not out-bro everybody else.
I think it would have been a better idea to have one...but by this point, most people stream or download everything, and since it can do 4K movies those ways, then I think it would be like adopting a soon-to-be obsolete technology. I mean, sure, with the yes or no question "Should Sony have put a UHD player in the PS4 Pro?" I'd say yes, but if "It doesn't matter" is an option, I'm definitely going to choose that one.
@get2sammyb I liked it a fair bit. It seemed more finicky with the tracking than the Wii, and it never felt as accurate as Wii Motion Plus, but it was definitely more accurate than the standard Wiimote, and some of the games were great - mainly House of the Dead 4 IMO (and Dead Space: Extraction and House of Dead: Overkill for those who didn't have a Wii).
@NintendoFan4Lyf You're correct; the PS2 port had some extra features, but the Gamecube original had FAR superior graphics. It makes sense; the Gamecube had significantly stronger hardware than the PS2. The Wii version was the definitive version until now because it had the Gamecube's visuals with the PS2's formerly-exclusive features.
That Pheromone Z DLC for Gal*Gun is just insane. What makes it worth $90?? Best I can tell, it just makes it easier to see their underwear. That'd be fine as a $1 DLC - even $2 or $3 maybe - but $90??
I put several hours into this game, and I'm ridiculously disappointed. The frame rate leaves a lot to be desired, the resources and crafting feel a little bit uninspired (though there's clearly a lot of potential there), and the visuals look like an upscaled Wii game.
Now obviously this is just my opinion, and I know that it's an unpopular one among PS4 gamers, but I, personally, am disappointed with the game. I'm glad that so many people are having so much fun with it, though; more power to you!
Nadine and Cassie were fantastic (and I REALLY hope they continue the series with Cassie). Screw those sexist jerks; I'm glad to see strong female characters become more prevalent in gaming.
@JMillsDezign It's not Nintendo that's done that but these dime-a-dozen indie developers. I'm completely sick of 8/16-bit style 2D games. They're ridiculously oversaturated. What we need more of, IMO, are good, solid 1080p60 2D platformers.
This upgraded PS4 is a terrible idea just like the New 3DS was for Nintendo. It's one thing to add minor improvements - adding an ethernet port to the Xbox 360 or making it smaller and more reliable. Adding significant horsepower that will (most likely) lead to games playing like rubbish on the original PS4 and only decently on the "PS4K" (Hyrule Warriors Legends, for example) is completely wrong, though.
This "leak" just took the things that would be almost mandatory for an "upgraded" version of the console. Like, seriously, anyone could guess "4K Blu-ray and slightly stronger hardware."
I have to disagree about the "top notch story missions." I found the story to be exceptionally disjointed. Individual missions' stories are interesting, but the overarching story just feels haphazard to me.
This is my eternal struggle, especially since I'm as much a collector as I am a gamer. I know I SHOULDN'T feel like this, but I do. I've gotten a lot better about it recently. I buy a LOT of games, some of which I may never actually play, to put in my collection, but I've started making myself focus on games that I enjoy. If I don't like it, just put it back on the shelf and don't worry about it. If I never get around to it because other games come out that I'd rather play, oh well; maybe I'll eventually get to it. It's hard, though, especially when you have clinical anxiety and obsessive compulsive issues working against you.
Seriously, though, the game is 90% fan service and always has been; it's hardly fair to criticize it for doing EXACTLY what it sets out to do. That would be like saying "Man, Resident Evil would be so much better if it just didn't have zombies."
I've got the HD remake pre-ordered. Is there any concrete word on localization for this one? I'll definitely wait for the review if it's getting localized; like most, the look of the gameplay makes me uneasy.
It looks good, and I'll give it a download whenever it goes on sale, but I doubt it will impress me given the near-masterpiece that was Yoshi's Woolly World.
Anyone who believed that it would have any compatibility with Playstation or Xbox is an idiot. Nintendo is the only of the Big Three with hardware that can survive on first party titles alone. The Wii U hasn't been a big money maker, but they broke even on it over a year and a half ago; they wouldn't do something desperate like this when they're not desperate yet.
The game itself may be good, but this horribly whitewashes the Bosnian War. This is basically a zombie survival game with the Siege of Sarajevo slapped over top of it. It does a disservice to the most significant military conflict of the 1990s and what is arguably the worst genocide since the Holocaust.
HOW DID I MISS THAT THIS GAME EXISTED?!? Kung Fury is pretty much my favorite movie. The fact that I was unaware of this game makes me extremely disappointed in myself.
I was willing to pay up to $500 for Oculus, but not $600 plus shipping. For Playstation VR, because of the lower specs, I'll be willing to pay up to $400. VR is super cool, and I know the first generation stuff is going to be expensive, but for lower specs and less versatility (PC compatibility with Oculus opens a lot more options long-term than a PS4-only VR headset), I'll expect a lower price point.
Infinity Ward has never impressed me with their entries. Ghosts was okay - if nothing else, the storytelling and setting context was better explained than the Modern Warfare series (and I'm a story-driven gamer), but honestly, Infinity Ward hasn't really impressed me with a Call of Duty game since Call of Duty 2 ten years ago.
