Rumour: Could Battlefield 5 Whisk You Back to World War I?

I know there are a lot of people hoping CoD would return to the WW2 era but I think Battlefield suits this period far better. With its destructive environments and more grounded realism, its seems a much better fit for WW2 than a fast paced, arcade shooter. Its also better suited because of the vehicular combat - It was the era that vehicles played a very significant role in warfare. WW1 would be a lot of sitting in muddy trenches with gas masks, having a kick about with the enemy on christmas eve before returning to the trenches - making little to no progress for months!
Personally, I don't think historical warfare should be recreated in the form of a 'game' deigned to entertain and be 'fun'. BF generally has a more serious undertone and as I said, grounded more in realism, and therefore could do this era of warfare justice - more so than CoD!

I like this idea, considering WW1 hasn't really gotten a game before besides Verdun, a shooter which I believe is coming to PS4 soon. This could be interesting

I will buy it if its set in ww1 or ww2 but not if its set in modern day again.

@BAMozzy I agree - I might be being hypocritcal but I prefer shooters to not be based on reality or historical conflict as it turns real slaughter into something fun and slightly ridiculous. As long as it is treated with respect then I have no problem.

I dunno.... I think I like modern Battlefield a lot better.

@Anchorsam_9 Didn't know Verdun was coming to ps4? That'd be great I'd love s WW1 shooter for a change

@Hego It went under the radar - earlier this month the developers announced it on Dutch TV, so no one really noticed. No release date or anything, just an announcement

@Anchorsam_9 WWW1 desnt get much play because there were hardly and automatic weapons and it was mainly trench warfare which is soldiers sitting in a ditch for hours, days or weeks on end.

@xpacerx That's why I think this could be interesting - if they really focus on the story and the politics behind the war, this could be an excellent experience. They shouldn't focus on fun, they should go for the Spec Ops: The Line approach of showing how horrible war is

Would be fun if it was, flying biplane's and shooting tommy gun's! But I doubt it I don't know if there would be enough weapon's, tank's, plane's and boat's etc that made BF4 the great game that it is.

I think DICE could pull off a good WW1 game, & I think they could do a real good campaign.

this sounds awesome and imagine if it has the visual fidelity and sound design as battlefront does that would be awesome

Wish they would make a full game of Vietnam. The Vietnam dlc for BFBC2 was outstanding

WWI setting would be interesting. CoD nailed every WWII entry so Battlefield should hit WWI to show the horrors and politics of that war. Or even the Korean War

I used to play Battlefield 1918 which was a user created Mod for 1942 ,it was absolutely brilliant fun , Sopwith Camels v Fokkers was ace.

I can see less advanced guns leading to fresh feeling gunplay if its done right.

I'd like to see something like Medal of Honor underground. Back when the Medal of Honor games were good. That game was great, far better than all this futuristic crap

It would be nice if we could get a Battlefield or Call of Duty that didn't involve terrorists.

@banacheck Dice haven't managed to do a 'good' campaign since BFBC2 and so I wouldn't hold my breath about this having a good campaign.

I played all the early CoD and MoH games, and I've long been sick of the older settings. I bought Sniper Elite 3 when it was cheap, as the Africa setting was at least a change. But I'm not at all interested in going back to that era.

WW1 was mostly trench warfare, so I don't see it making for a particularly fun or entertaining game.

Personally, I'd rather have a new Bad Company game.

A world war 1/2 game where you play as a time traveler fighting for the Germans and show allied forces tumblr blogs to destroy their morale. Oh or Lego battlefield Lego is cool too.

I don't think WW1 would make for an interesting game but they should do something different. A Vietnam war game or a Soviet Afghan war game done right would be good.

Yeah,a new Bad Company would be a day 1 for me - BC2 was clearly the best Battlefield to date (at least on consoles) Especially with the Vietenam dlc..Unfortunately,the name of BF5 gives it away..Well at least thats that particular disappointment out of the way..In any case,i think WW1 Dosen't sound very exciting,unless there's a major innovative step up -in terms of gameplay (hmm) A More balanced pvp a la BC2 is the important thing,lets hope its okay.
