Re: Sonic Frontiers Director Acknowledges Feedback, 'We Still Have a Long Way to Go'

Eldritch

@Olmaz Agreed. As I said to someone earlier it's been this way a while but the point I was trying to make, although I didn't put across very clearly, is this is now a deliberate and deceitful act by developers as opposed to previously, where more often than not it was just down to shoddy coding and poor testing (here's looking at you Ubisoft). Neither is a good situation but I find this one leaves a very bitter taste in my mouth.
So whereas I used to pre-order lots of titles, like you and @bimboliquido I'm now willing to wait months so I can play the optimised and far cheaper version.

Re: Hogwarts Legacy's Platinum Trophy Will Have You Scouring Every Inch of the School Grounds

Eldritch

@JustPlainLoco Exactly. Or, to put it in even simpler terms, it was a challenge. And that's what I liked. The challenge and then being able to show off that platinum for having taken on the challenge and beaten it. Now, most platinums mean you had the time to scour every inch of the map/collectibles guide or worse still, place your controller aside and go do something else.
I've got just over 160 platinums but doubt that figure will increase much now.

Re: Hogwarts Legacy's Platinum Trophy Will Have You Scouring Every Inch of the School Grounds

Eldritch

I've pretty much given up on trophies. Used to collect them avidly when they meant something. But these days, for inclusivity reasons, they're barely linked to anything challenging. The final straw for me was Stray. In a time that electricity prices are sky rocketing and there are some poor people who can barely afford it, some bright spark decided it'd be a good idea to create a trophy where you put your controller aside and don't play for an hour. I'm a gamer, I don't want to put down my controller at the best of times.

Re: Talking Point: What Are Your Thoughts on Protagonists Discussing Puzzles?

Eldritch

@MulletproofPunk Likewise. I have memories of spending days typing out code for a ZX81 river racing game. Then hours trying to fix all the in-game errors. And all for a few seconds of steering a V down a river, with banks made of I's, and avoiding the precarious 0's, or rather rocks. 🤣 I certainly wouldn't trade that for the majesty of today's games but there was certainly a sense of achievement to be had.

Re: Final Fantasy 16 Has a Full New Game+ Mode, Story and Hardcore Difficulty Settings

Eldritch

@Neverwild I'm guessing, by your message, that English isn't your first language so I'll excuse you not being able to interpret it properly. I'm not accusing him of racism, as like you I read the bit you mentioned. However He said a developer can do as they please, he doesn't mind what they do as he plays for enjoyment. This is in the context of a message about racism. You combine those and you get my question.

Re: Poll: Do You Care About 60fps on PS5?

Eldritch

I far prefer 60fps than the resolution options. I have a 4k TV but I'm perfectly happy with 1080. I don't sit 2ft from my screen so I don't care about dpi but I certainly notice low frame rates.

Re: Rumour: Bungie Is Bringing Marathon Back as a Squad-Based Extraction Shooter

Eldritch

I loved Marathon. Gave me my first ever jump scare in a game. Had to pull a level to open a door but the lever was situated in a small claustrophobic room. When you turned around there was this floating figure, just inches from your face. Great stuff. Fond memories.
Also the days when Apple made great professional design tailored computers. Unlike the consumer orientated trash they make these days.

Re: Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Anime Is a 'Standalone Work', No Plans for a Second Season

Eldritch

@Kienda Hold on... you say "Anime and cartoons are different" Ok, so why then say "Anime has many different genres from children’s “cartoons” to..."
How can they be different and the same? 🤣 Look, I get you all want to distance what you watch from the Flintstones but Anime is just a umbrella term. If, like you say, it includes cartoons, don't get upset when people refer to cartoons.
Stop basing the argument on Anime vs American children's cartoons... what about the stuff from other countries? Stuff that has many genres like dramas, romantic comedies, epic fantasy, science fiction and so forth. (They even have real “adult” cartoons if you know what I mean.)
The UK, for example, has some amazing animations. I had the good fortune to study Animation under the tutelage of Joanna Quinn an amazing British animator. Animation isn't just restricted to America and Japan.
I liked Akira, I bought it first on VHS, various mediums between, and now I have it on Blu-ray. I thought it was excellent. But that took me down the path of exploring other anime. There were a few that, like Akira, were very impressive but a lot of it was absolute garbage. And to try and put that garbage on a pedestal, just because it comes under the tag of anime, is ridiculous.

Re: Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Anime Is a 'Standalone Work', No Plans for a Second Season

Eldritch

@MightyDemon82 Please... you can't just make a blanket statement like that. There are some exceedingly good American cartoons and there are some completely trash anime. And vice versa. So "They" are not on a different level. That's like saying all classical art is excellent yet impressionists works are rubbish. Both have their masterpieces and both have trash. But to try and blanket statement all anime is better, just belittles your arguement.

Re: Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Anime Is a 'Standalone Work', No Plans for a Second Season

Eldritch

@Flaming_Kaiser 🤣 They're cartoons. I don't know why people try to claim differently. Especially using the "certainly not for kids" arguement. There are plenty of American and European cartoons that are most certainly not for kids. So do they, by your arguement, become Anime? I like Akira and a couple of others but on the whole I find them over the top and cringey, as cartoons usually are. But I guess if it helps people think they're a little more "high brow" whilst watching characters that looks like they're from a cartoon, with voice acting befitting cartoons and storylines that could shame a lot of cartoons but all the while proclaim cartoons are beneath them, they only watch anime! Yeah, right.

Re: Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Anime Is a 'Standalone Work', No Plans for a Second Season

Eldritch

I'll certainly be getting into Cyberpunk at some point but not because of this. Not into cartoons so very unlikely I'll watch it. What'll tempt me is a very reasonably priced bundle of the game with all DLC. A peace offering for all that let down and torment they put me through. And to make up for that unworn Cyberpunk t-shirt, somewhere at the bottom of a drawer, that I've been too embarrassed to let see the light of day.

Re: Reaction: PS Stars Is Overdue Yet Appreciated, But There's Lots of Room to Improve

Eldritch

Stars is a little too late for me. I used to be a big spender, several thousand a year, but now just £100. PS Extra and EA subscriptions are filling my gaming quota and losing the gaming industry loads. And something as gimmicky as Stars is not going to entice me back. In fact some of the challenges in Stars are environmentally unfriendly. Not good at all in this current climate.
And here's to subscriptions, they've got to be good for the industry, right?

Re: PS5 Firmware Update Makes Massive User Interface Improvements

Eldritch

@djlard That's completely gone for me. Though, if I remember correctly, that may be one I removed by pressing the option button whilst it was selected. Worth a try. Strangely my trophy one returned today. But other than that the only one to appear is music but that's only when I have started playing music off my SD card. All other cards are still absent.

Re: Trio of PS Plus Assassin's Creed Games Won't Be Playable on PS5

Eldritch

@johnny30 Firstly it clearly states the Trilogy and "additionally" Syndicate have issues. Nowhere does it imply Syndicate is part of the trilogy.
Further, if you, also read the helpfully included links you'd find out it's a Ubisoft issue and then not spend your time misinforming people with wild guesses.
It's no wonder the internet is so full of misinformation when people are handed information on a plate but would rather spend time misinforming people, with speculation than read the facts.
