When are we realistically expecting Final Fantasy VII Remake and Kingdom Hearts III to launch? We mean like, realistically. Square Enix doesn't exactly have the best track record when it comes to releasing big games in a timely manner, but its vagueness with regards to these two titles in particular is becoming a bit of a drag.
According to CEO Yosuke Matsuda, it's hoping to launch both games "in the next three years or so". In other words, they'll be ready when they're ready, and that probably won't be for a while yet. When's the PS5 coming out again?
Does Square Enix announce its games far, far too early? Consider cryosleep in the comments section below.
Please be excited, etc.
It's like they are trying to repeat the "success" of FF15, and that's not good.
I don't know what to say, other than "Square is a joke". Might as well treat every in-house project of theirs as vaporware until you can walk into a store and purchase them.
I won't be holding my breath.
Lmao, in the next 3 years or so. He probably says that thinking "I won't be working here then, so it won't be my problem anyway!"
Honestly, KH3 just HAS to release in 2018, doesn't it?!
Maybe if those 200 odd people who are still working on FFXV we're redeployed it might not take so long. With regards FFVII, does that just mean the first part? I'll be an old man before I can play it all across multiple generations of consoles 😃
....why square? They shouldnt have announced it so early
To be expected, KH3 was pretty much on hold till FFXV was done. And VII only just started when it was announced.
I can understand FF7 taking forever, seems like they didn't really want to do it anyway, the bigwigs at HQ just saw the $, and it's episodic, meaning they have no clue, but shouldn't KH3 have a release date by now? Wasn't that what KH2.8 Prologue was for, to signify it was coming soon?
I like hype. I like when games get announced and then have a build up of 6 to 9 months of promotional materials. Maybe a year or so w/ the inevitable delays these days. But at some point you just become a laughingstock. Square has certainly reached that point.
At this point they really just should announce they are both PS5 launch titles. Nintnedo sort of subtly said Zelda had a 2 year delay to release alongside the Switch. Worked for them so far.
To be completely honest, as hyped as I may be for KH3, I will treat it the same as final fantasy 15, just ignore as much of it as I can, than to suddenly discover it will release within a month and the game has gone gold, than to be wowed by the result.
Actually, that's how I treat all big games lately, just hakuna matata. (Joke intended)
Wasn't the remake announced 3 years ago? Why bother doing that if you know it's so far out?
With FFVIIR being episodic this might mean a lot of different things...that said they just gave us XV and Nier and Dragon Quest XI is out in July in Japan, people need to chill out.
I'm normally a hopeful person, but it will take some time before we see these games on shelves.
They can take their time with the remake, I'm still on disc 1 of FF7. KH3 I hope comes out within 3 years, but I do have some catching up in that series too.
@Dodoo I wonder that myself, but I honestly think they were tired of everyone badgering them for a remake of FF7. Maybe, maybe not, but I'm sure the very high demand of it was a huge cause. But that's a can of worms I really don't feel like opening.
I can't defend you anymore, Square. You're clearly lost in the sauce.
I reckon the FFVII remake will have rubbish button mash action combat so I might buy it in 5 years.
It will still be released before the next Game of Thrones book.
They can boast they are quicker than George R R Martin.
I can wait for FF7 as there are fortunately other games to pass the time. As long as it is not delayed and a bloated mess.
I don't see FFVII: Remake Part 1 releasing anytime soon, but hopefully KH3 will release in the next 3 years...preferably 2018 or 2019.
Ouch, maybe square plan to launch it with ps5, 1080p 30 fps on ps4/pro, 4k 60 fps on ps5.
announce a game in current gen and release it in the next gen, that is going to happen again........hope no
I'm honestly amazed Square as a company operates the way it does. It announces games years before it actually starts full production, the output is tiny for the team size, implying it doesn't scale well, and it spends way too much time adding new features to unfinished games it released a year before.
It's a brand with a huge fanbase, sure. But I feel development at Square has the same mindset it did in 1997.
What an embarrassment .. so KH3 was never truly in development ? Launch it with PS5 at this point ....
The dfs sale will end before we see the FF7 remake.
Kh has to release by 2018. That is just insane if it doesn't. Ff7 I can sort of forgive as long as they set themselves up to release the episodes in a timely manner (don't let it be this long between each episode).
See it on ps6 , may be ps7
I think ps8 is agood idea too don't be in hurry
Finaly they should release it one day dosen't matter when
I hope i would be alive on release date
"Does Square Enix announce its games far, far too early?"
honestly sometimes yes but in the case of these 2 games i think it was more done to shut up the people who would constantly ask them about it
Perhaps they're aiming for a PlayStation 5 launch game? Unlikely but you never know..
@FullbringIchigo when you have an announce trailer in 2013 and a full gameplay trailer in 2015, you would expect 2017 is a reasonable time frame for Kingdom Hearts.
The problem is, and I've only really been thinking like this over the past year or so, as depressing as it sounds I always wonder if I'll be dead before they release. It'd be a right bummer to die before I got to experience the FF7 remake I've been waiting 15 years for. And the sad thing is people WILL die waiting to play these games! How sad lol.
@ztpayne7 but your forgetting that since then they have switched game engine so it's basically like starting again
It'd be funny if it wasn't so pathetic. And this is why I say E3 2016 was better than E3 2015. 2016 actually had some substance, we've still got nothing but the decent at best The Last Guardian out of the 'Holy Trinity' of E3 2015.
It's far too long away for me to have any interest in it. Maybe I'll pay attention to it and get excited once it's nearing release.
good grief...I loved the "or so" included in the comment. Does "or so" = sometime in the next decade?
Watch KH3 be a PS5 game. That way they can release a collection with all the games- on ONE disc! It makes perfect sense. Kingdom Hearts 1.5+2.5+2.8 coming to stores near you.
This makes me think that there is some merit to those Kingdom Hearts 2.9 rumours.
Ridiculous. Kingdom Hearts has become abit of a joke now. We all want it to be good, but there is definitely an argument for saying it was announced wayyy to soon
Lol to say the least see FFX15 10 years!
Will anyone care about these games anymore by the time they come out?
and this is why sony didn't actually win E3 2015.
Thankfully I just started with KH since they will take a while. And yes, I can see them rereleasing the 1.5 and 2.5 for the third gen in a row on PS5. And fans buying them of course.
I actually see the first part of FFVII releasing before KH3, maybe they wanted episodic in part because they know their track record. And of course the eternal hype and the eventual complete edition.
The ps5 will be out by then.
Not to long then..
I love a bit of drag, personally.
[Janice's voice] Oh. My. God.
Why, Square? You're developing KH3 for, what, 20 years now? Honestly, these guys really shouldn't release all these remasters if they have zero intention to release the next entry soon... Anyway, luckily I'm waiting for a price drop on KH before buying the collections on PS4; I'll wait for KH3 release date now, don't wanna buy it for PS4 only to find out I'll have to buy it again on PS5 to play the entire series on a single system.
They're not beholden to us. I was hoping FF7 would be a PS5 launch title anyway. <3
You're dead to me Squenix...
Hahahahaha everyone lauding these two games over Breath of the Wild may as well now just shush.
Couldn't be any funnier this news
Could be more then 3 years especially if they decide to make it launch games for ps5 which will take another year to port it, so around 2021+.
I've been saying this to a lot of people that for some reason believe that the games will only be out in 3 years.
Please read below:
Transcript actually translating the phrase Matsuda-san said:
"We plan to release these games sequentially over the next 3 years." and NOT "we plan to release them in the next 3 years or so"
There's the Marvel IP that will only be fully announced next year, FFVII if still by episodes shouldn't take much longer, and KH3, to me, will be announced in the upcoming E3.
