We just got a bit more hyped for ANTHEM - the gritty sci-fi third person shooter that was revealed at EA's showcase. Why? Well, it turns out that Drew Karpyshyn's working on it. Karpyshyn was lead writer on both Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2, and he also wrote the Mass Effect expanded universe novels - which are actually really good.
With Karpyshyn on board, our hopes for ANTHEM having good writing have skyrocketed. After all, it is a BioWare game. It might have big guns and its gameplay trailer may have been nothing but action, but we're still kind of expecting some decent role-playing elements to be a part of it.
Is this good news as far as you're concerned? Remember how good Mass Effect 2 was in the comments section below.

That's good news at least. I am still a bit concerned about the single player content, but knowing that Drew Karpyshyn is involved makes me feel confident that it will have a good story at least and hopefully have intriguing characters that BioWare is (normally) known for.
Fantastic news as far as I'm concerned. Karpyshyn is a great writer. Hopefully he has an impact.
I'm looking for it to have a great single player campaign that's offline but it seems more like EA's take on Destiny. If that's the case I'll have to skip out because I don't enjoy online multiplayer games too much but hope it turns out to be excellent either way.
Oh geez. I'm even more hyped now! I really hope it's not online only though...
Mass Effect dying a very painful death better have been worth it for this game
Yup, that's definitely good news as far as I am concerned. As the Rok said it remains to be seen how much of an impact he'll be allowed to have, but I loved ME 1 and 2 and his novels, so there's hope.
I wasn't concerned before as this was the best 'new' reveal (games revealed for the first time), best 'new' IP and biggest 'surprise' of E3 for me. The trailer at EA's show did enough to grab my interest and hint at a lot of potential from a 'story' perspective. The gameplay at MS's conference looked great and the world very interesting to spend time in and explore.
The fact its written by Karpyshyn just adds to my interest...
What @BAMozzy said.
the visuals/environments looked really impressive, but not particularly sold on the gameplay that was shown. mass effect's shooting wasn't particularly a strength imo, so would need to see that it's not just going to be a destiny style third-person shooter quasi-mmo with EA microtransactioning it to hell before it's more than a 'maybe' for me.
I don't believe this kind of visual can be achieved with old ps4 by anyone besides sony 1st party studio. I hope I'm wrong, if this game have good story and gameplay, I'll be getting it on day 1. If the game has offline mode.
This one caught my eye big time watching Xbox's show. I was really happy not to hear the word exclusive in the showing!
On the one hand, this sounds awesome. On the other, it sucks that my favorite series got handed to the B team and died so this could be.
So Anthem is a timed exclusive, right?
@WanderingBullet I don't think so. Its just a marketing deal with Microsoft. I doubt it will be like 'Destiny' in that MS get 'extra' content either because Phil is adamant that MS will never do that as its 'bad' for gamers and the industry. It could be like CoD where DLC is timed or literally 'just' a marketing deal...
@BAMozzy Oh, I thought I read them saying that its a XBox console launch exclusive which made me think that maybe the PS4 will only get the game at a later date.
@WanderingBullet As far as I am aware its a simultaneous release for all Platforms (XB, PC & PS) and will also support the PS4 Pro at launch...
@BAMozzy Good to know. Thanks
