Re: Final Fantasy XV Director Says PS4 Is a Mountain to Climb

CanisWolfred

Was anything really surprised by this? Every new gen is a new challenge. Granted, I do think that the whole escalation of AAA gaming is really getting out of hand - I think at this point, developers are just gonna have to stop going all out. It's not like we need games to just keep getting bigger. Smaller games are fine, too, and the sooner people realize that, the better off things'll be.

Re: Game of the Year: Best PlayStation 3 Games of 2013

CanisWolfred

Ni no Kuni was an easy vote for me. I think it was the only PS3 game that came out this year that I liked. Not to take away from Ni no Kuni's greatness, though - it's easily one of my top games of the year, bar none.

Nvm, Blood Dragon came out this year. That gets my second place at least.

Re: Talking Point: Should Sony Mirror Steam's Discount Strategy for PSN?

CanisWolfred

No. That would be absolutely reckless of them. That's like saying we people should follow the App store model - it would ruinous to the entire industry in the longrun. The last thing this industry needs is everyone having such large backlogs that eventually no one feels the need to buy new games, or buy any game at full price at least, thus driving down prices to an absurd amount until no one makes money anymore.

Re: Persona 5 Jumps Out of Your Dreams and into Reality

@charlesnarles The James one I'll give you is a tad odd, but not much worse than jokes that, say, Bugs Bunny has done throughout the various series. The gun pointing I'm not even sure why it was removed, I don't think he even fired it...maybe it had more to do with the timing than simple censorship? Then again, they censored a lot of guns for reasons that made no sense to me. For frick sake, kids have been pointing imaginary guns at eachother since guns were invented. What there be the point in censoring something they probably already know?

But I'm getting off track here. I guess your point is saying that localizations used to mess with the original content, correct? There's no arguing that.

I'm not a fan of Chibi versions of normal characters either, It's supposed to be cute and funny, but it just makes everyone look like aliens to me...Not that I'll let that get in the way of enjoying a good game, but still, I'm the least excited for the PQ game out of the 4.

Re: Review: Knack (PlayStation 4)

CanisWolfred

This is definitely a game I can respect...even if I know its one I wouldn't enjoy. I have zero nostalgia for 32/64-bit platformers and have disliked the ones I've tried in recent years. Except Super Mario 64, of course. Still, I like that they tried to go back to an era that hasn't been revisited a bajillion times, and actually made something decent, if simplistic and sorta flawed game. I also liked that they tried for a cartoon-y aesthetic in an era full of doom-and-gloom, hyper-realistic games.

Re: Feature: Games of the Generation - Your Five Favourites

CanisWolfred

This is going to be-

1. Ni no Kuni
2. 3D Dot Game Heroes
3. King of Fighters XIII
4. Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time
5. Valkyria Chronicles

...Easy. I haven't played enough PS3 games for me to agonize over a list like this. In fact, If anything, I had trouble finding 5 games I liked that much.

Re: Feature: Games of the Generation - Nathan's Five Favourites

@nathanuc1988 I did not like LittleBig Planet 2. Not because it was bad, but I felt like it was trying way too hard to be charming...and failed miserably. In the end it just felt rather bland and forgettable to me, at least in the Story Mode. The game's focus is supposed to be player-generated content, but I don't buy into that kind of stuff, so the story was all I had to play and I just didn't enjoy it. It's not a bad game, but it isn't for me.

Re: Talking Point: How Have the First Reviews Affected Your Anticipation for PS4?

CanisWolfred

Dead Rising 3 is the most depressing thing I've seen happen to a franchise in a long time...and I don't even care for Zombie or open-world games.

Anyways, no, they haven't changed my perspective. Because overall, they've been exactly what I expected. A few rushed ports, a failed new IP, and a sequel or two that manages to do well enough, but won't blow your pants off. We really only needed Killzone to carry the launch until Second Son and other great games start coming out. Lucky for Sony, Xbone's Killer App won't come out until mid-March, so they'll be in the same boat.

Re: Feature: What Does the PS4's Launch Lineup Look Like?

CanisWolfred

@Sanquine I played Super Stardust once. And I was already bored of it.

And your point makes no sense. Those games have changing evironments and a variety in settings and missions. As far as I can tell, Resogun is just varients of a few set stages and patterns. Especially if Super Stardust is anything to go by.

Re: Feature: Games of the Generation - Katy's Five Favourites

My biggest problem with Dante wasn't his looks, but that he lost a lot of his old cheekiness. And without that he went from carefully treading the line to diving straight off the deep end into "completely unlikeable" territory. The games are still fun, but without a good protagonist, it just lacked the charm and extra oomph that made the previous Devil May Cry games so great.

Re: Feature: Games of the Generation - Jamie's Five Favourites

CanisWolfred

@Gemuarto No, I was just messing with you. I don't care one way or the other about Dead to Rights, I just know its not-so-good reputation. I'll probably never try it out. Shooters and action games don't interest me anymore. (unless they do their best to be silly and charming, then I can't resist them)

Re: Feature: Games of the Generation - Ben's Five Favourites

CanisWolfred

Lot of RPGs here, not that I'm complaining. No, if I had any complaint, it would be that Resistance got a mention. I think that whole series is the epitome of bland as far as shooters go. I'll admit that Resistance 1 is the best of the 3 PS3 games, but it still was boring, even when I was still into shooters. The story was more or less by the numbers action film stuff that got old years ago, the characters were boring and unmemorable, the gameplay reminded me why games like Call of Duty are generally considered an evolution of the genre, and the whole game just lacked the charm their company used to be known for.

Seriously, the only thing I liked about the series was the PSP game Sony Bend made, which took the gameplay and story and advanced it far beyond what Insomniac ever could've done, ironically by making it more like their stellar Syphon Filter games.

Speaking of Which, why aren't there more Syphon Filter games?
