I'm a bit wary about the first update. Sony's implementation on their TV sets haven't been the greatest although I'll caveat that statement a little by the fact that the implementation in their newer TV sets are a little better than the XH90. Still not perfect though. (See Vincent on HDTV Test on YouTube)
Technically - 9/10 > Found a lot to be excellent as one would expect from PD but thought the collision mechanics and AI behaviour could better
Overall - 6/10 > the issues with DRM, predatory MTX implementation for a full 79.99€ game, somewhat lack of content at launch (i.e. singleplayer races and cups).
I agree that the damage is done. Whilst I think they should fix the issue, I'm tired of seeing developers pull these moves despite knowing that it would anger the community (just like with NFTs) only to then reverse the move and apologise.
Despite me loving the GT series, the reputation is tarnished.
You'll probably start seeing the effects next week. It's a shame though, technically the game is the best in the series (especially on PS5), but the current problems are big and needs to be addressed by PD and Sony.
@EmperorJake not true mate. Once you complete all the cafe menus, license (all gold) and missions (all gold), you'll end up with around 100 cars. That's 25% of the total amount and the only other way from there to win free cars is the rigged daily roulette tickets. So that you means you're gonna be grinding races and buying the cars with the earnings.
Also sucks about you getting COVID. Feel better mate.
GT is my favourite racing series and one of the reasons I've been on PlayStation all these years but things like this frustrate me. They're such anti consumer moves considering I shelled out 79.99€ for the game.
I spent almost 2 hours redoing that one mission with the GT 1500T on Spa in the rain and on Racing soft tyres, only to find out that it's bugged.
Server maintenance is taking a little longer though. Haven't been able to connect all morning and there's a statement on their site saying it's gonna take a little while longer.
Whilst 10 bucks is a good price for the game, I'm still gonna wait until it releases to see what the reviews/technical state the game is in. Rockstar has to earn back this trust from the community...
Glad to see it make No.1. Absolutely blown away by how stunning the game looks on PS5 and also brings back the classic GT gameplay with some tweaks to the handling model over GT Sport
Caught it over the weekend (thanks for ye free ticket PlayStation) and that it was alright. Better than some other game-movie adaptations. Whilst I didn't think Wahlberg is the best choice for Sully, he definitely nails it with the banter.
Think Ghost of Tsushima will be a lot easier to adapt into Film though, so that might be an interesting one...
I have to agree with some here that while certain aspects of the review process will always be subjective (and that's fine) there are other aspects that need to remain objective (the general quality aspect of the product). The scores given out by so many of these gaming outlets for this game show that hype and bias has influenced their reviews.
@gollumb82 same mate. I've played various semi-arcade/semi-sim games from Codemasters and found the handling model to be in a very confused state cause it doesn't know what it wants to be. Think the F1 and Dirt Rally series are great from them but the games in between...not so much
Whatever Square Enix. I personally loved the game and thought it was one of my GOTY for 2021. Excellently written and acted, with a great story and some cool looking worlds.
@Apfelschteiner Sony had two options after their 'Non-Upgrade Path' U-turn last year:
Option 1: have an upgrade path from PS4 to PS5 which costs 10€, if you've purchased it on last gen.
Option 2: charge the same price for both PS4 and PS5 versions
Instead they went for a middle ground of both options offering a free upgrade for PS4 owners and charging more for the PS5 version at the same time. The lack of clarity in their marketing caused this consumer confusion and has obviously worked in their favour.
As a PS5 owner, you're essentially paying a 10€ premium for the same product. And that is not Sony just "not giving away something for free", but selling one product with 2 different prices on the same storefront. This, deserves to be called out.
@Reeneman yeah definitely. I don't quite remember the numbers from DF's analysis on Rift Apart, I just remember the resolution drop was miniscule compared to the 30fps mode and personally for me the image quality looked 1:1. It was a really good mode to have.
If you've watched Digital Foundry over the last year, they've made a compelling case for an 40fps mode on 120hz screens (such as on Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart). I personally played Rift Apart on that mode and found it to be a great middle ground between graphical fidelity and performance. Shame that Guerilla hasn't implemented that here.
Feels like Sony just didn't invest enough resources in getting VRR out compared to our friends in green.
Bought the Sony XH90 TV set last year alongside my PS5 and when the TV got the VRR update in October 21, it was and is an absolute mess. So I don't think that they have the right implementation of VRR...yet.
Whilst I absolutely loved the Evil Within series, in particular I thought Evil Within 2 was fantastic, I think I'll only pick this up in a deep sale. I commend them for trying something different but it doesn't tickle my fancy...
I'm sorry Sammy, your example of GT Sport being a service game is completely false. GT Sport did not launch well due to the criticisms with it being online only and the campaign being ditched. Not to forget that it was bare of content at launch which they had to commit to releasing more cars and tracks over the following years.
Also they didn't have seasons or dlc or unlocking skins that you had to purchase extra through the in game currency. I believe sometime in 2019 they introduced the option to buy cars with real money but that's as far as it went.
Coming to the main point though, I'm not a big fan of service games. I can understand why developers do it (cut development costs of new games and earn through selling you bits of the game) but don't agree with the direction Sony is going with this. Developing a few titles might be alright to dabble in it and see how it works for them but committing to 10 projects until 2026 tells me that they're dumping a lot of their finite studio capacities into something that the PlayStation community isn't built on. And that's not great.
So as far as we, the consumers on PlayStation, are concerned we don't benefit at all from this? Sounds to me that Sony are just covering their bases.
Also I've read that Bungie has the tendency to buy themselves out of ownerships (i.e. Microsoft and Activision-Blizzard). Is this true though and what are your opinions on something similar happening here?
This is really underwhelming. Personally one of the reasons why I have stuck to PlayStation consoles all these years have been because of their quality single player IPs. I hope there isn't too much focus on this type of games going forward that cause a drop off in said singleplayer IPs, cause I can't say I care much for it.
Tired of all the greed and resulting rubbish decisions from these huge companies. My resolution for 2022 regarding gaming is to go for more indie games...simply more heart and soul in those games.
They broke the game after the last update. Playing on veteran with random lobbies was already difficult at launch cause of the spawn rates and now it's pure broken.
Would have been happy with a pure l4d copy with some new weapons and maps but they've made it all too complicated with the card system for example.
Think journalists and gaming sites should call more of this out and not let developers get away with stuff like this. So many developers are releasing half baked games only for the consumers to pay full price to essentially be QA testers.
Put in like 6 hours into the game so far and I cannot recommend anyone to purchase it at full price. Like any DICE game (or in fact any game that's released nowadays) wait for 6 months to a year until they've massively patched, balanced and added more content to it. There's definitely some potential here...
Personally I would have to give Returnal GOTY for 2021 as well. It was my first foray into the world of roguelites which was just a different experience and done fantastically.
Between the PlayStation exclusives for GOTY, I'll have to pick Returnal over Ratchet and Clank. Thought technically Ratchet and Clank was fantastic but the gameplay loop was a little...meh. Returnal on the other hand...
@Bleachedsmiles erm...there are other fps games other than call of duty that are fluid and have a HUD? But hey, I was in the same boat as you, tired of call of duty and wanted something different. I was just left disappointed. Go give it a shot though whilst I'll be excited for Back4Blood
Was a little pumped to try out hell let loose but gave up after 30 mins. The controls are a bit janky, gameplay is extremely slow and without any HUD you have no idea what's going on. The lobbies will definitely die down after a week.
I think this review can be voided. First of all it's a remaster and not a remake so you have to expect some outdated controls/combat since it's running on an older engine. Of course with the updated graphics here. I can only recommend playing this for those that haven't, I played it back in 2011 and wouldn't mind buying it for ps5. Fantastically weird game in that typical Remedy style.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Gran Turismo 7?
@LowTech yeah I heard 5 was quite good.
Oh by golly slaps knee the first 2 though, I remember the days of "farming" the Suzuki Escudo and selling it to get them credits.
Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Gran Turismo 7?
@LowTech haha yeah I definitely feel old. Though I've played all the GTs bar the ones during the PS3 era. Cause I just didn't have a PS3 😅

It's definitely gonna be crap because they will not want to distract people from the GT7 release. Similar to what happened last month.
Re: In the UK, 70% of Boxed Horizon Forbidden West Buyers Paid More Than They Needed To
Im quite sure of that 70%, 90% of them were just not informed of that free upgrade path. I'm sorry to say but it's pure filth on Sony's part.
Re: Netflix Nabs Rights to BioShock Movie Adaptation
