Zenless Zone Zero's Sequel Sized PS5 Update Will Be Revealed This Week 1

Zenless Zone Zero’s first anniversary is upon us, and so is its epic v2.0 update. If you follow HoYoverse’s other games, then you’ll know this is shaping up to be a milestone patch for the free-to-play affair. All will be revealed at 7PM PT on 23rd May.

Thanks to a roadmap stream earlier in the year, we already know some of the details about this update. Phaethon will be heading to the Waifei Peninsula [Not Waifu Peninsula – Ed] to a new city named Failume Heights, which will serve as the new hub for the update, including fresh daily quests and activities.

We know the hotly anticipated idols faction Angels of Delusion are likely to feature in this arc, but all eyes will be on new character Yixuan, who’s probably the most anticipated addition since Miyabi.

There has been some talk that HoYoverse’s games have been cannibalising each other, and consequently there have been claims Zenless Zone Zero is underperforming. But the game still has a rabid fanbase, and the Chinese developer will be hoping this update encourages new players to join.

From our perspective, it’s staggering how quickly the company has iterated on this effort, addressing criticisms like the “TV Mode” gameplay and basically transforming the flow of quests for the better. The story is easier to follow than the lore-heavy – and, honestly, often nonsense – Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail, too.

But competition is about to get pretty intense: rival urban gacha game NTE doesn’t look like it’s too far away, and newcomers like Silver Palace have serious potential too.
