It’s a baseless claim, and I’m very much against forcing Sony to allow alternative stores on PlayStation, but I’d like someone to give them a bit of a bloody nose on this as digital is indeed scandalously expensive compared to physical. Some type of enforced timed reduction in prices would be the wish, or at least give us the right to refund within a certain period of time, or at the very least a right to trade digital keys (even if Sony take a cut)
Well, I guess Arizona Sunshine 2 is going in my basket then. Although I still haven’t managed do more than a first completion on the original. Just too many VR games to get through.
@awp69
I like and have played some of those games, but whether it’s good value being on Gamepass is subjective. For example, I have PS5 only so had to buy Monster Train for £19.99, but as I don’t have much gaming time I can play it as my only game for several months before I finish it. If I bought gamepass and did the same it would have cost me 3 times as much as buying it outright. Same for Obscura. Or Pirates Yakuza. If it takes more than a couple of months for a person to finish a game it is objectively worse value on Gamepass or an equivalently priced service. None of us are wrong here, we just have different situations and preferences.
“ SpeedTree is more of a tool used to procedurally generate foliage and greenery on the fly, based on the work of real artists.”
Sounds like what AI does.
Seriously, anything that speeds up the creation of games the better. As long as quality isn’t compromised, which it sounds like it hasn’t been with the review and revisions.
@Rich33
Indeed. Although I do fear somewhat what it would mean for game design and pacing (rushing though a lot of content to keep interest high early on). Still, refunds and, ideally, second hand digital trading, would be overall a big draw for a particular ecosystem next time I come to choose a platform.
@Nepp67 Have you played Pirate Yakuza? That’s back to the brawler gameplay, which I admit I prefer also. Still, it’s the world and its stories, as well as the varied gameplay/side-missions that sets it apart.
@PuppetMaster Maybe, I just can’t feel that. I played all the mainline games back to back, plus the judgments, FoNS, Ishin and now started Pirate. Still working on Ishin plat but got plat on all the rest, meaning some of those games I played multiple times at 200+hrs. Fatigue hasn’t even been a thing for me in those circumstances. The games are just that good.
Shame on you all for not getting the Like a Dragon games. The best gaming franchise of all time. Get those numbers up, we need this series to never end.
@Questionable_Duck And yet VR games always feel fresh, like stepping into a new world every release (I do wish many of those worlds weren’t so scary though!)
Bought Pirates Yakuza last week, and still going through Stella Blade. So those two mainly, with quick darts in and out of Monster Train 2. Really really tempted to get Wanderer 2 as well, but feel like I need to finish some of my existing VR games before I buy more.
@Questionable_Duck lol, just spend an extra couple of hundred. Much more worthwhile than yet another flatscreen box with reskinned games of what you can play already.
@Jammer Specs still work. In fact, apparently, it’s the best of all the major headsets for spec space due to the halo and telescopic design. I was just careful because I scratched my PSVR1 day one with my glasses and it was a constant if minor annoyance for years. Contacts would be perfect but I couldn’t be arsed with that hassle. So the lense inserts were an easy (and much cheaper) solution
@Darude84
Most of the games I play flat are not AAA. Most AAA games bore the hell out of me. I think the last one I played was the original Horizon on PS4.
Edit: actually no, it was Hogwarts PS5. But as great as I could tell it was, I got bored and didn’t finish it.
VR provides something truly new and immersive for those of us gaming for 40+ years already.
@Leetware1 Would be nice, but no big deal. I just sent my prescription off and got clip on lenses for £35. Never had to wear glasses in the headset as that would be less comfortable and I’d be scared about scratching.
@Gremio108 “Business as usual” is a temporal statement that takes place on human, not geological, timescales, which brings me back to my original statement that I wish this experience used data going further back than 1901. Still, yes, I understand your reluctance to state truths from which misleading inferences may be made. I just wish everybody was more honest about what are the real problems, both with global warming and what will happen as a result of trying to slow it.
@Gremio108
It’s a geological issue (well, in general usage of that word) but not a geological worry. It’s a human worry. The earth is fine, humanity may well endure famines, forced mass migration, and go to war and die in great numbers. So let’s focus on that and not “end of the Earth” rubbish arguments.
@Gremio108
That’s a political and logistical worry indeed. Although not a geological worry by any means. The scaremongering about the latter instead of the educating about the former is what will cause many an argument unfortunately.
Why changes from only 1901? That’s not really scientifically significant as a dataset, nor does it give humanity the vital perspective we instinctively lack. Disappointing. Should have gone back at least 20,000 years to the LGM, if not the beginning (with less reliable estimations, obviously, but accurate in broad strokes).
I hope MS do put Steam in their next box and that Sony can find some way to integrate it too, perhaps in a bespoke form, with automatic translation of Steam achievements to Trophies for PC only games. There are a lot of Indy PC games I’d like to play but can’t really justify buying a PC to do so. Of course it would require some type of profit sharing deal between them and MS could easily scupper that.
That’s fair enough. It’s not like they are a big AAA dev. And the game they provided is amazing fun. Looking forward to experiencing more story, and excellent cinematics!, in the sequel. These guys deserve every success.
@CaptD Yep, me too. And given all the games drop in price rapidly after entering plus anyway, I may as well just drop to essential (and that’s only for cloud saves). If they never left Extra or Premium that would be one thing, but having my gaming life dictated by a subscription service is not for me.
After looking at how long I’ve played what games, it’s clear I largely play Indy roguelites and yakuza games (the later I can’t wait on even though I know they’ll hit plus eventually). Plus VR. I’ve got a few of the AA games on Plus, and a good few VR, but given how cheap they generally are it really hasn’t been worth the outlay, so I’ll likely let my sub lapse - although I have been saying that for years.
@N0CYmr0k
Ok, I don’t consider myself a trophy hunter (I have a 41% trophy completion level, very low as I don’t bother if they aren’t fun to go for) but I do have to defend @Balaam_ ‘s position a bit here.
Edit: turned into more than a bit.
-whilst I don’t agree that any game is “high IQ”, certainly one characteristic of someone who traditionally has a high IQ is a boredom at repetition. Multiplayer is generally more repetitive in my view. That can be debated, but not outright dismissed
Also, trophy lists often require a player to complete the game on the highest difficulty mode, so saying trophy hunters always play on “numbing Story mode” is demonstrably untrue.
-I do agree with him that multiplayer and single player trophies both being required should perhaps be stopped, if only because all servers eventually go down, and so you could end up buying a game that is not completable - that is all developer provided challenges cannot be achieved. There is nothing stopping a dev from having two separate unlock requirements, it’s been done many times before.
To others: these are no more “meaningless dopamine baubles” than any other developer provided challenge or game system in a video game. They are all meant to ultimately elicit fun. And sure, a bad trophy list can be ignored, but to me that’s letting a dev off. It’s like saying “well, 50% of side missions in this game are crap, but it’s still a phenomenal game if you just ignore them, they aren’t essential”; true, but missing the point just a bit.
-“ Have you thought of, ya know, playing the game and enjoying it ?”, so do trophy lists supply an enjoyable dopamine hit or not? If so, then having thus aspect be an unenjoyable part of the game is a valid annoyance.
-“Multiplayer against actual players is far harder than scripted Ai that lets you win… Also it’s more dynamic“. If a difficulty is dynamic it isn’t usually harder in the long run, further, it can also be easily gamed in most multiplayer situations with a little communication/organisation (depending on the trophy challenge), something you can’t do with an extreme difficulty single player playthrough.
It seems everyone jumped on the guy because they felt insulted that their preferred game type was called “low IQ”. Whilst not tactful, the truth is 99.9% of all games are “low IQ”. Just let people enjoy being completionists and having fun where they like.
I rarely pay more than £40 for a game. Don’t need to with so many still to play. If they feel enough people will buy it for this then fair enough, but I don’t need to.
I’ll go back to playing Star Renegades, great fun, 43hrs in so far, and it was £4.99.
A woman proud of her body is nice to see, and she certainly has the right to be. And while I don’t think all games need to have a character with sex appeal, having the occasional one like this, which celebrates rather than trivialises female sexuality, is a good thing.
@Shad361
You realise that, if the platform holder is announcing more games than third parties cumulatively, that’s a sign of a badly failing platform? Why would you want such little interest from all other devs on the planet that first party is that important?
I must say, and I wasn’t expecting this, but Bond has me excited. Hopefully it stays faithful to the character and time period. Looks great. Also was happy to see the MK collection, mainly as MK3 holds some great gaming memories for me. Not too much outside of that I’d personally be interested in, but I can see some quality games there. And good to see so much coming out of Japan.
I take it from the description they wont have the full premier league license, just Man City? Nor Seria A, La Liga etc. I think I would really prefer them, if they can’t get everything, to have completely fictionalised leagues and players; which would also open the possibility of having fictional player abilities, unique leagues structures and rules, etc.
@ChrisDeku
“AA sexdoll” games did fine in the Japanese market for decades before Sony and society ruined things. I think there would be a sizeable enough market.
Regardless, I think he was talking about performance, with many games to PC, including many PS ports, having issues.
(This game isn’t 8/10 btw, 9 minimum, maybe even a 10)
@Fazermint
The demo really wasn’t the best representation of the game for some reason. I didn’t really like it, and it put me off buying the game until a few weeks ago. Now I love it. One of the best games of the gen. I think they need a new demo, possibly because the combat is a bit blah until you unlock more early skills.

Diablo 4. Could be great as long as it has a sustainable and interesting single player with no need for season passes or add ons. I liked 3.
