Re: Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter (PS5) - This Is How You Remake a Classic RPG

If any are more familiar with the originals could you let me know how many liberties the localisation people took? I know of several unfortunate insertions and adaptations that change characterisation somewhat, so that doesn’t give me a good impression. If it’s too much I might get around to playing the originals. I liked Cold Steel 1&2 so I figure I’d like these too.

Re: PS5's New Power Saver Feature Confirms Its First Supported Games

Sorry, but streaming games, portable play, and high end graphical showcases, just do not mix. I have no interest playing a cinematic game on a small screen on the tube, and I couldn’t anyway as I’d have no or poor connection for streaming.

I love my portal for turn based / slow, Indy and narrative based games, (I’ll be getting a lot of play on it as I’m starting a 10 day trade shown this week) but I’m not going to play big games on it, I’ll save that for when I’m home.

Edit: I only consider it worth discussing this in terms of what it can do for that presumed handheld. Literally no reason to use it otherwise. And I’m not going to suppose native play yet - even with slight performance reductions you won’t get PS6 like performance in handheld form

@LikelySatan
No, that’s why they were separated in that sentence. A development studio is not only more than the devs, but the devs are very rarely in control of the company. I think you are deliberately misunderstanding, so I’m out of this “conversation”.

Re: Cyberpunk 2077 Gets Yet Another Surprise Patch on PS5

@LikelySatan
Well, it was not mentioned In the patch notes for the guilty patch, so you decide on whether the company wanted the devs to be open about it. I wasn’t there so can only infer like you. But I’m not sure what point you are trying to make. I think you might be one of those pedants who argue only governments can censor, or one who likes to hide censorship behind the “the devs just changed their minds” cop out, but apologies if I’m wrong.

Re: Dragon Quest 7 Returns in Reimagined Form, Out for PS5 in February 2026

I don’t like the idea of a “streamlined” narrative. Give me the full story. All the games. Tell me which order to buy them in and I will.

I get the feeling I may be missing something however. By streamlined they may mean sped up, according to some things I’ve read elsewhere. Anyone know if anything is missing?

Re: Last Chance to Play These 8 PS5, PS4 Games on PS Plus

Really don’t see the point of removing PSVR2 games. If anything they should ensure they stay on and advertise the hell out of the immediate catalogue of games available to anyone getting the headset. Plus the games are cheap anyway, surely can’t cost Sony that much to keep on.

Re: Cyberpunk 2077 Gets Yet Another Surprise Patch on PS5

@LikelySatan
They clearly did. Our definitions of “authority” may differ, but it’s clearly what happened.

I’m not sure what you are considering as conspiratorial. If it’s that devs, or other members of a company, are told not to comment on censorship then that’s a fact with many confirmed examples. As well as just being a logical requirement of a company censoring their own products.

Re: Cyberpunk 2077 Gets Yet Another Surprise Patch on PS5

@LikelySatan
Who knows? Societal trends and the PR department most likely.

Or maybe they decided to put loads of work into a game for years, advertised heavily before and at release that it would not be censored due to the narrative and feel of the world being what they intended, and then just…changed their minds.

Doubt it though.

The simple truth is that devs are not allowed to comment on such things.

“ Create an account on the Shift website and link your profile to the platform you play the game on”

Seriously, bugger off with this sh*t!

I don’t even care about giving my data away, it’s just bloody tedious, and in this case impacts the design of the game.

Re: 8 PS Plus Extra, Premium Games for September 2025 Announced

@TheIronChimp
Sure. If you buy everything you want before it can come to a service that service isn’t going to be worth anything so why don’t you just buy the retro games when released too, they are much cheaper. I don’t get why you would get Premium for some retro games yet buy everything else. Didn’t mean for that to sound critical, sure you have a reason, I’m just bemused.

Re: 8 PS Plus Extra, Premium Games for September 2025 Announced

4fold

@TheIronChimp
But the price of premium is £1.66. And sure you have to keep it to keep playing the game, but these small games are finished in a month or two; once finished I won’t play thrm again. Maybe that’s where we differ. I’ll move to the next (or maybe the one 3 after, but it’s still worth it).

Now, if you are saying something strange (maybe I misunderstood) but that you are only interested in old games and not new games, that the entire cost of Essential and extra is wasted, then of course it’s not worth getting Premium at all. But the absolute key thing to specify here is that, in this case, you are not judging Premium in the slightest . You are judging Essential and Extra.

In this judgment I may agree. But depends on the person and how much time they have to play of course.

Re: 8 PS Plus Extra, Premium Games for September 2025 Announced

4fold

@TheIronChimp
I agree in principle, but in this case we are talking £1.66 a month for 1/2 games. That cannot be not worth it unless you don’t like any of these games for several months, at which point yes, better to buy the 1 in 8 or whatever that you like and keep it forever, absolutely.

To me, however, that is not judging the value of the service, it is simply saying your taste is quite specific. Which is totally fair, but not a judgment of the value of the service objectively speaking.

This month for example: do you think Legacy of Kain Defiance is not worth £1.66? Or does the game simply not appeal to you personally?

Re: 8 PS Plus Extra, Premium Games for September 2025 Announced

4fold

@TheIronChimp
For £20 a year, I would say 1 to 2 games a month is perfectly generous.
Admittedly I would get it anyway just for the streaming to Portal, so anything extra feels like more of a bonus to me, but have you really stopped to think about how much you are actually paying every month? It’s £1.66. Are the games you get every month from Premium not worth £1.66 to you?

Re: Even More Ex-Xbox Executives Speak Out About 'Tension' of Game Pass

I’m not sure where the controversy is. It’s always been logical to me that, when the subscription becomes the product rather than the individual games, the individual games are going to be devalued exactly as is being said by both people in this article. Is anyone really disagreeing with something so obvious?

Re: Review in Progress: Hollow Knight: Silksong (PS5) - A Silky Smooth Sequel Proving Well Worth the Wait

I have a question about saves. What can put me off some difficult games, especially those involving tedious trial and error bosses / memorising boss attack patterns, is if there are scant save points and none immediately before boss encounters (mainly thinking souls games). If the game makes me repeatedly redo progress then I’m out. I’m playing elden ring at the moment, and the bosses are fun, but only because there are generally save points right before. I’ve fallen away from “hard” games in the past due to having to redo progress.
I never played the original.

@Northern_munkey
I’ve payed it a lot. Have the plat and 94% trophy completion (don’t really know how to judge progress other than that).

I didn’t say I didn’t appreciate it, but for what it is, something to do when you want a low effort activity. I wouldn’t spend much on it is all.

I barely remember the experience apart from some cheap dopamine hits when I finished a low skill activity that unlocked incremental progress

@Onearmbandit
I would encourage you to give VR its chance. You are correct that it’s just so immersive, but also that people can feel a bit off for a bit if they overdo it (and have their friends unexpectedly boost them around a game! Lol). After a week of play you’ll have a whole new world opened to you and it’ll always form part of your gaming experience from then on.
