@Rich33
Times haven’t changed. Games Sony allow changed 7 years ago, so devs had to adapt and censor themselves. Sony have absolutely not relaxed their puritanical policies. It was always, some would say racistly, concentrated on restricting Japanese devs.
I can provide another article quoting more Japanese devs if you like. And yes this is from 6 years ago, as I said, it was around 2018 this crap started.
I have no interest in debating with you the validity of censorship. Nobody ever changes their minds on that topic. I was merely evidencing my claims as there seemed to be some doubt that Sony censors (proudly) beyond what the ratings boards require.
@Rich33
If you aren’t informed about Sony’s openly stated censorship policy, and all the (especially Japanese) games that were not released, or had entire modes changed, characters redrawn etc…I don’t know what to say. This isn’t new to anyone paying attention
@Rich33 That wasn’t a comment related to Sony specifically, just said funny you mentioned that game. I believe it was cross platform some time after release for that one. Which just shows how scared these companies are of bad PR from a***holes.
@Rich33 I can provide links, but a quick google will do it.
And by the way, funny you mention cyberpunk, that game was censored in a patch post release. Nips covered, underwear enforced everywhere outside of the menus for your character.
@Rich33 lol, you must be new. Since 2008 Sony changed their policies (they said in light of the #metoo movement). You can see lots of games at that time were released censored on Sony’s platform that were completely unmolested on the Switch and Xbox. As a result lots of Japanese devs closed down and, due to the cost of certification with Sony and their deliberately unclear policies, devs began self censoring. Eventually MS followed suit. Nintendo are still pretty much still allowing whatever the certification boards allow rather than pushing their agenda / avoiding bad PR, but Sony are a lost cause.
@Nintendo4Sonic
lol, I played it (I hope) before you were even born. What do I care what I can play it on now? There is nothing added, so it’s not worth £40. They could have put more effort in or charged a lower price. Unfortunately they didn’t.
True. But if MS release a new console then Sony will need to as well, or risk losing their hard won momentum. I’m sure Sony would rather not drop money into a new console needlessly.
Worth £9.99, not £40. I have nothing against old and linear games when done well, but as a basic kicking off point for better games in the series I would have hoped this would come as a double feature for £30. This feels like a rip off. Will wait on a heavy sale.
I’ve made use of the refund procedure a couple of times in the past. It was quick and painless to be honest. We do need an option to trade back after a couple of hrs play though, like on Steam.
Dreamland now, but we could also do with an option to get some credit back from Sony by “selling” an old game back to them.
I bet there are loads of people who might need an extra £10 for a £70 newly released game and would give up the license for a couple of old games they don’t play, rather than wait for a sale where they might potentially get it much cheaper anyway.
Regardless of what the rating boards allow, expect Sony to censor. I wouldn’t even count on it releasing unmolested on PC once the finance companies decide they don’t want to allow payments for such a sexualised game (under heavy pressure from activist groups).
Thanks Saudi, I guess. Can’t complain if expansions are free. As long as there isn’t any attempt at historical revisionism and it remains pure fantasy.
Continuing with elden ring. Trying to find some high strength/faith weapons to take me to my final build, which I want to be dual wielding magma blades. Still relatively early in the game having only just beaten Margit and Godfriend story wise, but have been enjoying the side exploration.
Once I realised grinding in certain spots brings far more experience than normal play, and that you don’t lose items upon death, the stress of the game was reduced immeasurably and I’m now enjoying the game far more without worrying about dying.
Might play the new Prince of Persia roguelike at some point, but I’m really caught up in ER at the moment.
Edit: PoP trophy challenges are not working, so guess I’ll wait to have them available.
It’s a shame they changed the script to “avoid offence”, but if it’s only a few lines I’ll remind myself of the original and just pretend. It does mean I’m going to wait until people have fully played through so I can know for sure.
@Andy22385
To be honest, this is probably my easiest Tales plat. Now if they did this to help on Tales of Symphonia I’d be delighted. The 8 playthrough requirement saw me quit.
I love the fact that sub events have notices and time warnings. It’s terrible when you have to consult a guide to ensure you see everything without a secondary playthrough. They should have absolutely done this for Symphonia!
Saying that, not sure I like the grade shop being open and the 5K free points. The grade shop is a nice reward for finishing the game.
Going through these comments, it amazes me how badly Sony marketed Trophies. People deliberately avoid developer coded challenges in games simply because it’s called a “Trophy”, and they like to take the view that a challenge is devalued if you add an acknowledgment outside the game also. Astonishing. Then again, it shows the power of marketing, for good or ill.
@Deadcorpse66 We also didn’t have saves when I started gaming, for years, but people would sure cry about it if saves were removed now. See how it works? Things improve and people don’t want to go back to something less good.
@Decoy_Snake
It would be nice to have additional developer given challenges for old games. Does it need a trophy attached to that challenge…no, but for memories and metagame it would be very nice. As is, I’ve done it.
Then there are those of us who do want them before playing, yes. It just feels like much of a game is missing without them.
Really not surprised after they did us dirty with no trophy challenges for Resi Village on PSVR2. They just don’t care, which made me not care to continue their game after realising. Glad I got it second hand for a tenner and free upgrade so they didn’t get any of my cash.
@Ricky-Spanish
Yep, performance mode. It’s more about the way the game is designed, and a known issue after researching it. It takes some adjustment, and some trial and error to anticipate enemy movesets well in advance, but you can adjust.
Just started elden ring yesterday. Slowly exploring and levelling up (including a bit of grinding on that huge beast that’s drops on you). Really liking it so far. I do wish the controls where more responsive, particularly the rolls. Even after releasing the button it takes a good while to engage the move which can feel a bit unfair with faster opponents. Still, I see myself playing this for quite some time.
Unicorn overlord could be interesting given the pedigree of those involved; can’t play Atelier Ryza 3 without the first two; Indika might be worth a try if I’m in the mood for a story; Coral Island…sure, sounds a bit like My Time at Portia, which I liked; no desire to go back to old Resi games (especially as I somewhat doubt they’ll get trophy challenges given what the did with Resi Village VR).
Depending on Trophy Challenges it could be longer to 100%. These are generally not taken into account before the challenges go live at release, but can massively impact how much there is to do.
Seems like a Gamepass game. Flashy, shallow, short, not worth buying but fleshes out a catalogue. Shame, because I was/am very interested in the original for the character development / story , but strikes me as a game that didn’t need a sequel.
This is all getting absolutely ridiculous. If the disgraceful U.K. government requires these overreaching verifications then at least do it at the platform level rather than providing yet another way for a multitude of companies to profit from skimming our data.
I have no interest in this particular game, but it will become quickly commonplace.
@James_42 Erm…no, it really isn’t. Nothing is lost on death, difficulty levels (and easy ones)…I mean, it has combat and bosses but that’s it. I don’t think that’s all that’s required to make something a souls like, but I guess there are no comprehensive definitions for these things.
Stella blade this weekend I think. Haven’t had the best time with new games recently. Had a brief foray into Diablo 4 before realising the enemy scaling made the whole thing pointless, then started Cyberpunk only to realise they’d made a post release censorship patch for the nudity, which pissed me off to the point I don’t want play it right now. Might dip into Eiyuden Chronicle as I’m a good way in and really enjoying it. Maybe some Monster Train 2 as there are some things on YouTube I want to listen too and it’s a pretty mindless but fun game.
They all want to keep people locked into their “platform”, and are likely all getting ready to add their own payment platforms within them too if the short sited courts require Sony et al to allow “competition”.
Will probably have to pay for a VPN to get around this. One piece of good news, I did find out about this patched in censorship before I purchased the phantom liberty city expansion. Was about to pull the trigger. Managed not to waste £25.
Btw, they didn’t patch out all the bugs. Got soft locked out of progress from the very first mission. Luckily had a save I could revert to. Good to see their priorities.
@lazarus11 I believe, not particularly in the UK but the US, a lot of the lobbying for greater control of the internet is from the conservative right. And given the lack of clarity of what is harmful, there are legitimate fears that this could negatively impact the LGBTQ community. Especially with the current administration. Not sure I’ve heard anything similar regarding this U.K. version of the law though.
@lazarus11 It was a hypothetical based on a very specific situation posited by someone else, and mentioned merely as a less bad option than another worse option. The guy I was having a conversation with understood, so maybe you shouldn’t jump in without reading or understanding things fully (I’m giving you the benefit of the doubt that this is the case, and you aren’t just being deliberately provocative for fun).
@Olmaz Then we’ll just agree to disagree. I see nothing wrong with porn, or what you term, promiscuity, as long as it goes along with the education that stops the diseases you mention; and whilst it isn’t good if young boys and girls expect such advance behaviour from young, inexperienced, people, that is also covered under education (not just sexual but moral). As for being “desensitised”, as you put it…I don’t think opening a persons eyes to possibilities is a bad thing. But I see we’ll never agree on these things, so I’ll just thank you for a polite and thoughtful debate.

The only people who would disagree are those who think such things are inherently bad and that the very thought or sight of one might corrupt a person and make them bad.
Edit: Ah, you say: “ if the result is simply people consuming less porn because they fear for their privacy, maybe it can be a goos thing”
So, seems you do just want to see an end to porn, ideally, right? Even for adults? Could this be biasing your opinion in some way?
