The problem is not AI, or even bad AI, but rather a lack of oversight. As AI improves it will become indistinguishable. In fact, most likely is that we will know it’s AI generated in future because it’s too good, too intricate, in a way we know a dev had no time for.
@Kienda
If I remember correctly, I just made another account. Might have been on the ps4 and I played against it on the ps5, but if you have streaming on Plus maybe you can play this other account with one console.
Got this plat over 5 years ago but still remember it fondly too. It’s games like this, without any real narrative pull or real completion, that really benefit from platinum campaigns.
I’ve been playing a lot of open ended games recently and often now get bored before finishing the plat challenges, haven’t got one for 6 months, whereas I used to get over two a month on average. More that I’m just getting bored of flat gaming I think.
Can’t say I really understand the problem too much. Let’s say the AI gives a few dozen designs for a character and the devs decide what they like most. How’s that really too different from outsourcing as it stands? Just because you can see the database of material that the AI uses for inspiration, but can’t see into a persons head in the same way to view the exact same thing?
Horror is clearly best played in VR. That much is obvious and without question. But it is also true of almost every genre, so please (please!) stop with all the horror games!
A separate trophy list…interesting. I have all plats apart from Ishin and Pirates, which I’ll eventually get to, and they are the most fun plats of any series I’ve played…but some take up to 200hrs, do I really want to get them twice?
It’s a fine machine with no games worthy of it. Unfortunately most devs are chasing multiplatform success so it’s more unique features aren’t used. Sadly that includes Sony as a dev too. Still, very happy about the lack of loading times at least, and PSVR2 has had some real jaw droppers.
It usually means “if your opinion is different than mine don’t you dare try to convince me to change my mind or you’re infringing on my right to feel superior” There are few occasions where people accused of “gaslighting” are actually doing so.
But back on point, your comment about Microsoft being in AI and so likely knowing about this in advance is a fair one…if they too stockpiled for that division. You are right they would care little about using it on Xbox.
As someone who reads gaming media daily, and has been gaming for nearly 4 decades and so knows what he likes, I’m fine with it. Marketing is likely to bring more success though. Sounds obvious to say it like that. But then if it’s a low budget, low effort remaster they’ll likely have limited marketing budget anyway.
37% of kids have good parents at least, lol.
Playing Fortnite or Roblox ad nauseam is just withering the spirit and imagination. Kids crave new experiences, give them some.
@Crecca
But then they couldn’t sell their emulated games of course. And to be honest, I like playing old games with new trophy challenges and save states.
@Crecca
The PS5 can’t even play CDs. Hell, i can’t even play 3D films on my PSVR2 despite being able to last gen. And that’s just a license thing. Penny pinching to the extreme.
@Vyse_the_Legend Didn’t look too much into it to be honest. I presume just the way they were stored or packed. Still, I’ve been waiting to finish the game for years lol.
@Vyse_the_Legend
I got a 360 to play them. Unfortunately the last disc of LO didn’t work. The 4th disc came in a paper sleeve and they obviously weren’t treated very well. It was quite common I hear.
33% off, nice. Still able to get the PS Premium sub extension at £80.39 despite my current sub being active. Guess I’m one of the lucky ones. Really wasn’t expecting that price. Cheaper than last years’ sub, which I just checked in my transaction history, and it was £83.99 in the same Black Friday sale.
For £6.70 a month I really can’t moan about it too much.
Tempted by Hyke, and FF crystal Chronicles, but will probably just keep working on my backlog.
Also, a reminder for everyone to immediately turn off auto renew if you got a sub!
@Hyena_socks Sure it’s fun, it’s just not complete. I’ll wait for the complete one. Given what the dev says there’s a good chance it will at least come out on PC.
@InJeffable
They might subsidise, but at current material costs £500 wouldn’t be profitable. For people not having to pay to play online, and having access to lots of cheap steam games however, £600 may still be appealing.
How is the price of a console £500? If someone asked me what next gen consoles would cost I would say £650-700 minimum. Not surprised the atmosphere was weird after that, probably trying not to laugh at the guy.
600-700, given it has access to a VR platform that will be heavily supported, has no charge to play online, and a cheap game library, seems great value to me (but then I’ve fallen out of love with AAA games anyway).
I’ve been waiting for the game to drop to about £8 for ages. Looks like it might happen now the remaster is coming (or they stop selling the older game entirely). Might look at the remaster if it’s good enough and doesn’t take liberties
I always ensure my sub runs out before the end of the offer (it is was extended a few days until the 30th November due to Sony giving “free” days for an outage, but still before the end of this period.
Saying that, it’s never been a problem to extend at the discounted rate before even when subbed. Seems a bit guy and miss for who can and can’t though.
In order for me to interest in mobile PlayStation games 3 things are needed:
1) Not free to play with Microtransactions
2) No multiplayer or online in any way
3) connected to PSN and have trophy challenges
Otherwise I couldn’t care less. Hopefully they can make good money from it so they can continue to make games for the completely different, but still profitable, single player and high quality gaming market.
Just got Core Keeper and really enjoying it. On sale for about £9.50 at the moment and highly recommended.
Unfortunately I bought the PS4 version by mistake, and despite not playing it, downloading it meant I couldn’t get a refund so I could buy the PS5 version. The Bot Sony now uses since their “wonderful” policy change of allowing refunds automatically (as long as never downloaded) now does not let you go to a human as it used to, just a bot message saying “I don’t understand, this is what the rules are, ***** you”
So yeah, playing the PS4 version due to Sony’s terrible customer service, but hopefully with a game like this it isn’t too different.
Also got Dyschronia and enjoying that in VR. Plus 7th Guest.
In a world where most games have multiple different languages for subtitles and even voice acting, I wonder how this will work out. Surely if it’s just the UI that’s locked to Japanese it’s the matter of a quick Google search to find what everything is. Or Google video translate.
Will Sony try to get devs to release their Japanese versions of games without other languages included? Maybe stop other country PSN accounts using them?
I had cause to experience this new system recently. It’s crap.
Previously I’ve been able to get a refund by talking to an advisor about a game I’d downloaded but never played. Basically bought in error.
Yesterday I bought Core Keeper (phenomenal game). Downloaded it, then realised it was the PS4 version (Sony really need to sort out their UI on this). I hadn’t yet played it, and wanted a refund so I could instead buy the PS5 version.
Unfortunately the bot Sony uses now has a concrete “if you downloaded you can’t even explain further” rule. I tried, but obviously it “did not understand that”.
Basically we lost our option to “talk” to anybody with a brain. Possibly could find a number to call but it wasn’t exactly business hours. So now I’m playing the inferior version 🙄
@dBackLash
It’s really not. Obviously AI is not yet close to the complexity of the human brain in many ways, but the ignorant concept that humans are some kind of divine beings capable of magical non neural network creativity from non experiential sources is founded in our very real ignorance of how the brain actually works and the simple fact that consciousness is a fake veneer disguising pretty deterministic cause and effect.
And no I don’t want get into a debate about the constantly changing ideas in emergent thinking. Bottom line is, I believe humans use what they experience in life in pretty much the same way AI uses a database, so this hand wringing and moralising about it seems tiresome to me.
That’s not to say I don’t think that, if something is pulled and used in an obviously copied way wholesale, that copyright or intellectual property rights shouldn’t kick in, but if it’s not obvious, or used in a way that is outside the context of the original art, then I also believes those laws currently over-reach (and if companies like Nintendo had their way that will actually get worse).
@dBackLash
You overestimate humans. They paste together their own experiences to adapt past work also. They just aren’t consciously aware of it most of the time.
@StrickenBiged
I understand it can run this too, and might need to for certain anti cheat / piracy systems? Only read a few articles on it and I haven’t had a gaming PC for decades so not sure.
I’ve had every PlayStation since the start, but I’m willing to leave. I had the original Xbox and the 360 and left that ecosystem, every Sega console from Master System to Dreamcast and feel no loss there, every Ninty console from NES to GameCube and had no problems dropping all their franchises. The main reason I got a PS5 at launch is because it was the only console with VR, which is the most fun gaming has been for me in a long time.
This proposed machine also has a standalone, compatible wireless headset with foveated streaming and a huge number of potential games.
So yes, very interesting for me. The wife also plays mainly on PC and has an existing Steam account.

@zimbogamer It doesn’t “use” existing art as in the exact design. It acts like a human, using what it’s experienced and adapting it as per specific needs. Sure, you can see a database used by the AI in a way you can’t get inside a persons brain, but there is no real difference in practice.

I can’t agree about Resi 4. It’s absolutely phenomenal in VR and I could never go back to playing any resident evil game externally again.
But yes, too many horror and puzzle games no doubt.
