Re: Digital Sales Make Death Stranding 2 PS5 Estimates Much Stronger

All they need to do is keep normalising it until the gaming population isn’t old enough to remember a time when games were owned, could be sold, traded, and bought second hand. We are nearly at a time when the means of distribution is monopolised and we are all paying far more than we should. It’s sad, but inevitable. Corporations can live longer than people, so they can shape the future if they have enough unfettered control.

Re: The 90s Anime Vibes Are Immaculate in Full Metal Schoolgirl on PS5

@SBBuds
The character you are referring to is from the crossover with Onechanbara. She isn’t a schoolgirl, she’s 21 and has quite an interesting back story. Would recommend those games. Not sure why the crossover, but not like it has to make sense.

Edit: oh, just a bonus costume according to the comment above? Not the actual character? Then I’m even less sure about the reason for it.

Re: Some PS Plus Users Can't Download Diablo 4

Same for me. Don’t remember ever downloading a trial for it, but I have had that issue in the past with other games. It’s somewhat ridiculous too that I can’t even see the price for a game on my wishlist if there is a trial for it without having to navigate a couple more screens.

Because I’m always happy to expand my range of enjoyable pursuits. If something comes highly recommended then I’ll try it, even if I have initial doubts. If I hadn’t made a point of doing that then I would have missed out on many enjoyable experiences over the years. I can always just drop it and get most of my money back (I’ll always get such games physically).

I guess I need to get the first one at some point so I can then get to this. Problem is, I can’t shake the conviction that, however good it is, I won’t like it. It just seems depressing, and like the moment to moment gameplay seems quite dull. I get the feeling it’s like an Oscar winning movie - which almost always means it’s something that won’t make me smile.

Re: Sony Sued for 'Abusing Its Dominant Position in the Console Market'

It’s a baseless claim, and I’m very much against forcing Sony to allow alternative stores on PlayStation, but I’d like someone to give them a bit of a bloody nose on this as digital is indeed scandalously expensive compared to physical. Some type of enforced timed reduction in prices would be the wish, or at least give us the right to refund within a certain period of time, or at the very least a right to trade digital keys (even if Sony take a cut)

Re: 'We're Not Looking to Put First-Party Games in PS Plus Day and Date': Sony Rejects Xbox Game Pass Model

@awp69
I like and have played some of those games, but whether it’s good value being on Gamepass is subjective. For example, I have PS5 only so had to buy Monster Train for £19.99, but as I don’t have much gaming time I can play it as my only game for several months before I finish it. If I bought gamepass and did the same it would have cost me 3 times as much as buying it outright. Same for Obscura. Or Pirates Yakuza. If it takes more than a couple of months for a person to finish a game it is objectively worse value on Gamepass or an equivalently priced service. None of us are wrong here, we just have different situations and preferences.

Re: Hot Shots Golf Fans Fume at Use of Generative AI in PS5 Revival

“ SpeedTree is more of a tool used to procedurally generate foliage and greenery on the fly, based on the work of real artists.”

Sounds like what AI does.

Seriously, anything that speeds up the creation of games the better. As long as quality isn’t compromised, which it sounds like it hasn’t been with the review and revisions.

Re: PS5's AI Slop Shovelware Has Hit a New Low

@Rich33
Indeed. Although I do fear somewhat what it would mean for game design and pacing (rushing though a lot of content to keep interest high early on). Still, refunds and, ideally, second hand digital trading, would be overall a big draw for a particular ecosystem next time I come to choose a platform.

Re: SEGA's Accidentally Outed Sales Numbers Put a Lot into Context

@PuppetMaster
Maybe, I just can’t feel that.
I played all the mainline games back to back, plus the judgments, FoNS, Ishin and now started Pirate. Still working on Ishin plat but got plat on all the rest, meaning some of those games I played multiple times at 200+hrs. Fatigue hasn’t even been a thing for me in those circumstances. The games are just that good.

Re: Talking Point: Is It Officially Game Over for PSVR2?

@Jammer
Specs still work. In fact, apparently, it’s the best of all the major headsets for spec space due to the halo and telescopic design. I was just careful because I scratched my PSVR1 day one with my glasses and it was a constant if minor annoyance for years. Contacts would be perfect but I couldn’t be arsed with that hassle. So the lense inserts were an easy (and much cheaper) solution

Re: Talking Point: Is It Officially Game Over for PSVR2?

@Darude84
Most of the games I play flat are not AAA. Most AAA games bore the hell out of me. I think the last one I played was the original Horizon on PS4.

Edit: actually no, it was Hogwarts PS5. But as great as I could tell it was, I got bored and didn’t finish it.

VR provides something truly new and immersive for those of us gaming for 40+ years already.

Re: Sony's New PS5, PSVR2 Game May Be the Most Important It Releases This Year

@Gremio108
“Business as usual” is a temporal statement that takes place on human, not geological, timescales, which brings me back to my original statement that I wish this experience used data going further back than 1901. Still, yes, I understand your reluctance to state truths from which misleading inferences may be made. I just wish everybody was more honest about what are the real problems, both with global warming and what will happen as a result of trying to slow it.

Re: Sony's New PS5, PSVR2 Game May Be the Most Important It Releases This Year

4fold

Why changes from only 1901? That’s not really scientifically significant as a dataset, nor does it give humanity the vital perspective we instinctively lack. Disappointing. Should have gone back at least 20,000 years to the LGM, if not the beginning (with less reliable estimations, obviously, but accurate in broad strokes).

Re: The Next Xbox Is a PC, So What Does That Mean for PS6?

4fold

I hope MS do put Steam in their next box and that Sony can find some way to integrate it too, perhaps in a bespoke form, with automatic translation of Steam achievements to Trophies for PC only games. There are a lot of Indy PC games I’d like to play but can’t really justify buying a PC to do so. Of course it would require some type of profit sharing deal between them and MS could easily scupper that.

Re: These PS5, PS4 Games Are Leaving PS Plus in July

4fold

@CaptD
Yep, me too. And given all the games drop in price rapidly after entering plus anyway, I may as well just drop to essential (and that’s only for cloud saves). If they never left Extra or Premium that would be one thing, but having my gaming life dictated by a subscription service is not for me.
