Re: Microsoft Short Changes Indiana Jones PS5 by Only Putting 20GB on the Blu-ray

@x3King84
As I’ve gotten older I care less and less about collecting discs (in fact I sold all of mine, back to the NES generation, a few years ago). And without the nostalgia value, I’m now free to never clutter up my place with game discs again.

What that experience taught me was to sell as soon as I’ve finished a game so I don’t lose loads of money on it. That, in turn, taught me what atrocious value digital games are.

Until we are given the rights to sell our games in a secondhand digital marketplace I can never support a full digital future.

Preservation has nothing to do with it either. Many, many iterations of the full code dispersed over millions of devices is a far better method of preservation than commercially pressed plastic discs with a lifespan of 20-30 years under normal usage conditions.

Re: PS6 Can't Rely on Cutting-Edge Graphics, Sony Must 'Change Its Way of Thinking'

I don’t completely agree. Sure, at the AAA end, graphics are great and won’t get too much better, but for VR more power is still necessary, and that’s the most interesting area of growth for me.

Also, more assistance (maybe AI) can be given for smaller and indie devs to hit better graphical fidelity. The vast majority of games I play actually look like crap.

I do agree that, other than for VR, there is still a whole generational upgrade possible with power that hasn’t yet been realised.

Re: PS5 vs Switch 2: Full Tech Specs Comparison

It’s just an upgraded switch. Which is fine. I didn’t expect it to compete with a pure home console. But there was nothing there to justify the price hike on games which cost substantially less to make than AAA PS or Xbox games.

And the focus on social features, whilst completely on brand, really isn’t for me.

Plus it seems they’ve paid for a load of times exclusives which, again, I don’t criticise them for, but as they will inevitably be weaker versions than the full console counterparts it is a bit annoying. Especially as they must know they are building a console that will either be for casual gamers or which will be a second console for more “hardcore” gamers.

Re: RPG Fans 'Very Sensitive to Feeling Like They Wasted Time,' Says Atlus Battle Designer

I do hate my time being “wasted” in games. I realise others have different opinions, but if I die and have to go through 30 minute of cutscenes and easy gameplay to get back to were I was before, then I just get frustrated.

I have maybe 90mins a day max to play, after work, and don’t want repeat things, just like I wouldn’t want to continually read page 1 of a book after I’ve experienced it, I want to move on to page two and then three etc, and would never voluntarily go back.

@Dalamar
Imagine you play perfectly fine. You just have slightly less game and challenge than you would otherwise 🤷‍♂️

I do find it funny how those who claim not to care about Trophies would actually appreciate the developers giving them more game challenges as long as no “Trophies” are attached. Almost like Trophies actually make a (negative) difference to their enjoyment of a game challenge.

Re: SAG-AFTRA Still 'Frustratingly Far Apart' from Big Game Studios, Publishers on AI Protections

@Flaming_Kaiser
AI can use someone’s voice likeness to create output. Those actors and actresses CAN then be paid for the use of their voice likeness, just like a famous persons’ visual likeness can be sold. This is cheaper for the publisher and means the source artist can be paid for, effectively, nothing, many times over.

The people damaged are the consumers in this scenario.

Re: Life Is Strange: Double Exposure Wins GDC Social Impact Award, But Everyone Got Laid Off

I think the fact that it was a “social impact” award, rather than a “best game”, or some type of “most popular/commercial success” award etc, shows why there is nobody there to receive it. It didn’t review fantastically, didn’t sell fantastically…I’m not even sure what great social impact it could have had in those circumstances.

I’ve played (and got the platinum) for 4 of the games in the series I think, but this wasn’t even on my radar given the so-so reviews and massively inflated price.

That’s on both the devs and publisher unfortunately.

Re: SAG-AFTRA Still 'Frustratingly Far Apart' from Big Game Studios, Publishers on AI Protections

I’m really not sure why these two sides can’t find common ground. It’s the players that should be campaigning. From the actors’ point of view, they can now be, theoretically, paid for work they don’t do (much more “work” therefore), just because a likeness of their voice is used, and the devs can likely pay less as no humans are involved. Why can’t they work out a simple business proposal?

The players who may have to make do with inferior characterisations. Sure, they should be complaining.

Re: Disc Rot Already Afflicts Your Physical Game Collection

Will a disc last long enough for me to finish the game and then trade or sell it? Yes. So that’s good enough for me. Far too many games released for me not to have enough new games to play 20 years later.

This is bad in terms of game preservation however, and new players being able to play the game in 21 years time. Thought a disc would last longer than that.

Re: Sony Confirms PS Portal's Status as 'DadStation' in Accurate Ad

I have no kids and the wife and I have a PlayStation each, but even in this scenario I get an amazing amount of use out of the portal because we can be in the same room while playing our individual games this way. Plus I can play in bed without hogging the TV, or indeed while watching TV for certain types of game. Wouldn’t be without mine now.
