Once released as a PS4 exclusive in 2019, who would have thought Death Stranding would take such a journey that it is now available across various platforms, and its imminent Game Pass launch now hardly feels like a surprise?

That's what's happening tomorrow, 21st January 2026: the Death Stranding Director's Cut version of the game on Xbox Series X|S and PC joins Game Pass Ultimate. This adds to the PS Plus Extra edition, which has been on the PlayStation service since 2022.

Death Stranding Game Pass 2

Of course, even before the launch of the first game, the Death Stranding IP was never quite a full exclusive to PS4. A bit of chatter pre-release suggested it was always destined for other platforms after a period of exclusivity, and that came to fruition as publisher 505 Games put out a PC version. And then, in November 2024, the original game was ported to Xbox Series X|S.

For now, at least, last year's Death Stranding 2 remains a PS5 exclusive, but age ratings have appeared that suggest a PC version is in the works. It would come as very little surprise if an Xbox Series X|S version followed afterwards.

This special Director's Cut version of Death Stranding enhances the base game with additional content, which includes race tracks and a Metal Gear Solid-esque stealth sequence. It's been on PS Plus Extra for years, but if you own an Xbox Series X|S, it'll soon be part of your Game Pass Ultimate subscription.
