Re: Nintendo Putting Pressure on Sony to Remove Dreams Creations on PS4

snakemake

The sad thing is there will be more companies doing the same thing, not only Nintendo. But even sadder thing is that after Sony puts Dreams on PC, people there won't just give a single f*** and they will mod the game (or many times just pirate it entirely) and get a wide range of exclusive content, which won't be allowed to appear on the console.

@RudeAnimat0r
"The game, which is the first open world effort coming from the Killzone developer and has just released for PS4/PS4 Pro, has cost the software house and its publisher Sony an amount around $47 million."
https://www.gamepur.com/news/horizon-zero-dawn-budget-revealed-the-game-is-the-largest-dutch-media-production-ever

Now calculate how much money was made within at least 4 millions of full priced 60$ sales (minus physical costs) and then over 10 millions of sales in the end. Saying things like "they need to earn more money to break with their game" is naïve at least.

Re: Not Every PS4 Exclusive Guaranteed for PC Release, Says PlayStation Boss

@rockman29 Longevity and sales could be achieved via consistency of the platform and with the backwards compatibility of the future hardware. The brand of the "ecosystem" is an inportant thing, you don't see Valve (Steam) selling even their older games like Half-Life or Portal on Epic Games Store and GOG. Hell, Valve has released zero of their first party titles for PS4 while they still could earn some easy bucks here.

Re: Poll: Will PlayStation Exclusives on PC Affect Your PS5 Purchasing Intent?

snakemake

Fanboys will buy it anyway and enable even worse practices upon the industry. Casuals too, but they are not loyal and could jump to Xbox or even streaming with any major f***-up. Anyway, Playstation is not on the level of Apple as the brand being bought for the branding alone, and even Apple doesn't expand it's assets beyond their proprietary hardware. Future expansion into the third world and most of the post-soviet bloc countries is also impossible, because they all prefer and do already play on PCs.

Re: Reaction: PlayStation's Most Ardent Fans Are Feeling Frustrated and Insecure

@Gamer83 As for the funniest thing, contrary to the bad-exclusive 'zeitgaist', I fail to see people here or at another sites begging for Nintendo exclusives going multiplatform. There were even published some articles here and there telling it won't get ported, so it is really wrong to ask for... Hell, there are some titles in the market, like Cuphead, being NOT RELEASED ONLY ON PS4. I strangely don't see serious complaining and whining about those.

Re: Reaction: PlayStation's Most Ardent Fans Are Feeling Frustrated and Insecure

This article sounds like a damage control to me. Again. And this time a passive aggressive on top of it all...
But as for some of the inconsistencies inside, maybe I'm not really a genius, so I just simply don't understand why Predator: Hunting Grounds, for example, is coming to PC while being Epic Store exclusive. I don't think it's being able to boost any player base this way, but bloody hell, I'm only a simple moron here at the end of the day.

Re: Sony to Develop Critically Acclaimed MLB The Show Series for Other Consoles

@wiiware The creators are and they are the only players that matter. And technical capabilities of that "large percentage" of inactive players will grow over the time, while PS5 will be staying in the same place. Not to speak about modding and cracking (pirating), which will make it even more incompatible with consoles. I can't see those countless Skyrim mods on PS4 while on PC they are plenty. But I guess at least with Skyrim they are only a side thing and not the main gimmick.

Re: Sony to Develop Critically Acclaimed MLB The Show Series for Other Consoles

@Rudy_Manchego Minecraft IP is owned exclusively by Microsoft and not a licence. But unlike anything else it was already a huge IP and being available on the competing platforms before the MS aquisition's happened (hell, it's over 100 million sales by now). They realistically couldn't revoke it and even if they could, it would be simply a PR nightmare. As for licences... do you know Spider-Man is technically the same kind of licence as MLB one?

Re: Sony to Develop Critically Acclaimed MLB The Show Series for Other Consoles

snakemake

@wiiware Dreams launching for PC would be pointless for PS4 and PS5. Maybe they should go all in already and abandon the singnificantly inferior version for the console, if that's the case? Considering the vast amount of concent created on PC wouldn't be available on Playstation (higher specs required, mature or copyright content) it seems like a pointless thing to even have it here then.

Re: Sony to Develop Critically Acclaimed MLB The Show Series for Other Consoles

@Tasuki Could play different and not being 100% submissive. Games like FIFA or The Show or NBA2K are based on reusing your old assets and already done technology. I doubt that any publisher could develop a sports game of this size under a year or even two from the scratch. This would result in at least one year gap, which would bring huge losses and brand damage for MLB only. But I have a feeling (considering the latest actions) that kind of situation wasn't the case and it was just Sony wanting to go multipat with it.

Re: Microsoft May Have Just Put an End to the Studio Acquisition Wars

snakemake

First of all, I don't think the aquisition spree is over. Secondly - you can't really call this a "war", when Microsoft took over few dying developers and Sony has just bought a single studio. And for the last one thing, Jim Ryan didn't rule out possibility of imminent aqusitions, just stated that while being a successful company you can't buy useless assets and the potential purchases have to be well-conceived.

Re: Soapbox: Why You Won't Be Playing All PlayStation Exclusives on PC

snakemake

@get2sammyb PS Now is a very different kind of thing. Because of the nature of streaming pc players don't get the actual code of the game, so they cannot have it forever. Sony can remove (and as the announced GOW example shows they will) some titles from the offer with subscribers deffinitely losing access to them. With native port once the game is published it will stay with the platform forever with the already made purchases or thru the hacking/piracy.
The biggest blow with streaming is pc players habitually abusing free trial to play exclusive games.
