Ready at Dawn's The Order: 1886 was a graphical showcase on PlayStation 4, but ultimately fell flat with critics and some players. The developer moved onto other projects following the reception to this PS4 exclusive, but it clearly poured a huge amount of time and effort into what remains a visually impressive adventure. It would be nice to see the studio return to the IP; it had plenty of potential for expansion. Now, a new rumour suggests The Order will indeed be coming back, supposedly with a next-gen sequel.
OsirisBlack, a NeoGAF user who previously outed a bunch of information about PS4 Pro before its release, is back with more alleged insider information. While not naming The Order directly, OsirisBlack implies this is the case across a few posts. The forum goer claims to have seen a gameplay trailer for this sequel, and describes it in pretty comprehensive detail. By the sound of it, the trailer will show a man with a shoulder-mounted device making his way through a dimly lit set of rooms, with the action picking up when a yellow-eyed monster gives chase. OsirisBlack describes the character models, lighting, and physics as "on another level".
There's nothing to necessarily prove this is what he says it is, so please take this with a pinch of salt. However, OsirisBlack has gotten things right in the past, so you never know. What do you think? Do you want to see Galahad and the rest make a next-gen return? Turn out the lights in the comments below.

Honestly never played the first one just because of the negativity surrounding it. Is it worth a playthrough and does it fare a bit better today?
@nessisonett it’s absolutely worth a play through. Screw Drake and co, it’s all about Sir Galahad.
I’d love a sequel!
(Good name for some sort of firm that. Screw Drake & Co. We got the name, open to suggestions as to what we’d actually do.)
@nessisonett
It wasn't a bad game it had a good story but it was very short, the cut scenes were longer than the game which was five hours at most
I would love a sequel as it had great characters and story
the story to me was amazing. I can understand why people didnt like the fighting and the length. The subject matter and the world of the game is awesome.
Yes please! While I'd class the game play as adequate I really liked the setting and story and would to like see them take a crack at evolving the game for a sequel. Fingers crossed this one is true.
I mean knights of the round table and lycans plus 1800 gothic england in a dark novel setting. Sign me up again.
@RogerRoger @kyleforrester87 Considering I just beat Uncharted 2 in 6 hours and that essentially was a cinematic shooter, I’d say it sounds promising 😂
First one seemed awfully underwhelming, so I doubt I'd ever bother with a sequel unless it's extremely different.
It's a visually ambitious game, I guess, but extreme realism has never impressed me. The view outside my window will always be more impressive than whatever some 8K power console is churning out.
@nessisonett yeah I saw that, fair play. The Order would take you less than 45 minutes. And yes if id spent more than £12 on it I might have liked it less.
Will the older 1886 sequel be a ps5 exclusives?
I just wish the first game was longer. It felt like the story was building up at a halfway point that would lead to a strong end, but it just ended. Like that. Poof.
There's been rumours this past week that Sony have concluded a deal to acquire another studio. If your a betting man, it maybe time to put that daft quid on Real At Dawn.
I'm actually surprised a sequel would be made what so ever. Sony has a big graveyard of dead intellectual properties, thought this would be one of them. It will be interesting seeing this particular footage pop up, if true.
The order had everything to be a fantastic game except length. 4 hours was a travesty but the lore and characters were magnificent. Then the after credits set up 1887 so I would gladly go back to that world on PS5!
So much untapped potential. I would love another one.
If I have a spare half an hour, I may play through the entirety of the first one. It looked an interesting concept so if the do make a sequel, I hope they bother putting a game in it this time
Hell yes. I really enjoyed the first game. Yea it was short, but gorgeous and fun. Make it happen sony. If the next rumor is resistance im gonna need a stiff drink lol
Make a comeback huh well if Sony doesn't let it go to p.c it might have a chance but Sony's future with exclusives are diminishing ever so quickly.
I'd like that a lot if true. I feel like it deserves another shot.
Hope this is true and they learnt from their mistakes in regards to length and QTE bosses
I haven't played it and tempted - was waiting for it to appear on PS+ It is £7.39 on PS Store at the moment though....
The rumour says it's also coming to Series X so it's probably a new IP made and owned by RAD.
I've been looking a sequel since I finished the first. I just wish that the first was longer but I really enjoyed it a lot. I don't regret buying it at release so I know I will end up buying this day 1 too if it happens.
Loved the first... 100% in for a sequel.
If this is multiplatform, Sony didn't like it too much after all.
Really enjoyed the first game and was my first platinum. It set the stage for a great sequel the lore and setting was amazing. At least on the PS5 with the new SSD we won’t have to walk extremely slowly while loading assets for the next area 🤣 also have an option to remove the cinematic black bars!! (Not great in a cover shooter)
I really enjoyed it and will definitely play a sequel. It’s of a similar length to Uncharted : the lost legacy. If it had been released as that price point people probably wouldn’t of had a problem with it. It did end on a cliffhanger when I thought I was about a third of the way through.
I still haven’t played this. Can’t believe it hasn’t been a PS+ freebie yet.
Unless RAD bought the IP I doubt it. It had so much potential, but I’m not sure Sony would green light another sequel
@Ryall it would have never been released at a lower price point. The reason for its stunted gameplay and brevity is because RAD focuses on making a graphically impressive game first and foremost
Man the things I’ll do for a sequel.
Still hoping for this to come to ps plus for me to play it
@jly1987 Some of the PlayStation latest games have been released at a lower price point. Sony recognised that Concrete Genie was a relatively small game and launched it for £25. The order 1886 is similar in that it’s a worthwhile experience but not a full sized AAA game. Although I don’t know how much it cost them to make it.
Great game far to short. I love to see a sequel but I would not buy till I know how long it is. That was its only downside for me.
@Icey664 It’s currently £7.39 on the UK PlayStation store. Might not quite be free but certainly not going to break the bank anymore either.
@Ryall the order was a full scale AAA game, it went through a rough development and was very technologically impressive. You’re comparing a very AAA game that just wasn’t good, to a game made by a small team of guys that if not under the Sony banner, wouldn’t really draw attention. Not to disrespect them, but the order was very much a AAA release, concrete genie is not
@Ryall yeah I know, but I can't keep thinking, some day it'll actually be free lol.
If i run out of other things to play, I might give it a shot but the back log is already so massive xD
Oh yeah.make it happen.i knew it was coming sooner or later.the graphics and gameplay and story is great.make it happen ready at dawn and sony.word up son
@nessisonett short game around 15 or so hours to platinum but deffo worth playing. Graphics are really good so a ps5 sequel will be decent to.
Well, the "leak" (and gamesradar source) implies it's on Xbox too, so here you go with your "console exclusivity" being the only exclusivity that matters.
Purchased the game cheap and I really enjoyed it. Would definitely be up for a sequel. The second one needs to be longer though.
The Order has a great cast of characters, a well written story, and even to this day phenomenal graphics.... but the gameplay was very shallow and generic. And it was short as hell. But for $5 (or free) it’s not a bad game to binge in a day. I really hope they can make a sequel and redeem it as a series.
@nessisonett it's been one of my favourite ps4 experiences. Not a perfect game by any means but I dug the setting and it hit the right spot for me in terms of difficulty, length etc.
I liked it. It was short but the biggest problem was that it acted like it should have been longer it was a huge build up and then just ended.
@nessisonett it was basically out of date back then, a very pretty game with a potentially fantastic setup and I would like to see a sequel that fulfills this potential. However the original is basically a 7 hour game in which you barely play it, the only real gameplay is maybe an hour and a half of basic cover shooting and that's it. The rest being cutscenes and walking slowly with the odd QTE to get the cutscenes to continue, whilst those werewolf fights are just QTE parties to do moves that aren't really in the game and you don't really fight them with those shooting mechanics that you'd expect to.
These days it's so cheap that I'd say go for it just out of curiosity, it still looks amazing and I liked the story and setup, I just wish they let you play the thing
I'd love a proper sequel to The Order. The setting is amazing. The world just needs to be more fleshed out.
The cover system was probably the worst I’ve ever been subjected to!!
It had its flaws, but I actually loved the original. I would be all for a sequel.
YES, PLEASE BE TRUE!
I was very intrigued by this game. Initially I thought it would play out kinda like a Sony version of Gears Of War. I wasn’t too keen on the limited gameplay there was. The story was cool, amazing graphics. Just felt let down by the package as a whole. There was the basis of something great tho, which would inevitably lead to a part 2, which I would definitely be keeping an eye out for.
I liked the original. It had the steampunk Difference Engine setting, Tesla as gunsmith, people shouting 'son of a whore' and Ygraine. Works for me.
Sadly, reading the later posts from OsirisBlack it sounds more like a Resistance game than The Order. Four arms and four yellow eyes? Sounds more alien than werewolf
Dont care about some people negative about it. I am not them. Played it and finished it. Absolutely loved it. Want a sequel. Awesome vampires and werewolves! And love 1800's!
I loved it to be honest. Well, the story anyway. And the characters were great. Unfortunately, the gameplay was very lacking.
Don't play with my feelings like that.
@4kgk2 Probably comes out on PC if if it comes out on Playstation 5. Sony is likely going multiplat.
The game was incredible, I feel it was over priced at launch for the amount of length, it was otherwise well worth it to try..I want a sequel, hopefully it's longer
Yes i whould. It was an awesome game
If Sony do buy Ready At Dawn, I wonder if it's because of Asgard's Wrath (for PSVR2). And maybe RAD agreed to a buy out, with the agreement they could also make the sequel to the Order 1886. The total life time sales could quite possibly be substantial too.
Can't wait if it's true.
Would gladly play another 1886 game.
Oh the hypocrisy! Reading through the comments section you'd think the game was a resounding success. Now, apparently, everybody and their mother would like a sequel...
As for me, I loved the Order and was disappointed only by the abrupt ending. Still, the rumour confirms nothing so I'm not holding my breath.
Also one of the easiest Platinum trophies this far. But I also liked the game and visuals. Would love a sequel! 😊
Would love a sequel! the length was never the issue it was the price, if it had released at say a $29.99 price point it the length would of been far better recieved. I still brought it at release despite the reviews, Not every game should be long.
@nessisonett I bought it discounted at $6-8, it's definitely worth it, the shooting, story, and especially the graphics are great. The problem is the game is too short (not a problem at $6-8 price), most of the enemy is just boring human (it should have more than one supernatural enemy), the supernatural enemy (werewolf) ai is laughable, they just attack you once and turning around to attack you again.
This ip should have way better reception if they make sequel that improved the original.
Well i loved the first one, ok it was a short game but the actuall story was really good, hopefully this is true and they work on it to make a decent length game this time.
The problem with this game was that the final product was not what we were shown at E3 in any way. Graphically it wasn't that impressive, even for its time, and the story was just too short as well as the aforementioned lack of interest from the E3 trailers. The gunplay was excellent, but the most interesting weapons you only got once, maybe twice, and then the game abruptly ended. It had potential, they just ended up cutting what looked to be the best parts of the world and story. Give me the werewolf hunters, not the civil war.
i really liked the first game, but i did go in not expecting much from this new ip back then. it sure paid off to not be a sucker for the e3 hype. so now i am looking forward to the second game.
Oh i hope this is true, the first game while i can understand why people were disappointed was a fun game and i would love to see more of the world and characters they created
Lose the QTE's (especially those godawful stealth mechanics) and make the gameplay/gunfights longer & meatier and I'd definitely be interested in returning to this world again, as it had (& has) so much unused potential.
Yeah!!!! I loved the original my only complaint was it was really short. Anyone who hasn't tried it yet go grab it it's probably like $5 at GameStop or most other stores. If you really liked bloodborne than you would like the order has the same look. I might bust my copy out been a while.
@nessisonett DAy late, dollar short, all that...
Picked up The Order years ago for $5. It was what it was, felt like 1 episode of season 2 of The Prisoner. I'm not even sure the graphics would still hold up, might be better off just playing Uncharted Lost Legacy and call it a day.
I was entertained b/c I'm into those 3rd person action games, but it was also kind of like a 2 hour Godzilla movie where Godzilla is in it for 15 minutes and the other 1 3/4 hours is people talking. As others have said, great atmosphere, some cool ideas - think Bioshock 3 - but I'd completely forgotten all about it until this article.
Uncharted 2 is my favorite interactive movie so I'm not opposed to the idea, but the ending may have been worse than the recent GoW of War.
I'd say play it if there is a direct sequel b/c it might be worth it then, like playing the awful Uncharted 1 today for the backstory.
I remember someone saying there would be huge news about a second party PS5 launch title 👀👀👀
They should make a sequel and call it “1885: Out of Order.”
@nessisonett They could have done without the QTE tbh, especially during the final boss being just a QTE event, aside from that this game got more hate than it actually deserved, at least imo I enjoyed it as a story/movie game even if it is a short game.
It doesn't offer the best game play, but the story is really damn interesting and deserves a sequel given the fact they teased vampires in the first one and if they focus on the combat game play, create better enemy AI, and remove the QTE, or at the very least make the QTE as seamless as the recent Doom game, and add more exploration to the overall world the Order 1886 is set to be one of the best story driven action games to come out.
I absolutely LOVED this game. Ok, sorry, my bad, this "experience". Frankly, I don't really care about the "it's not a real game" debate.
The story, the visuals, the set-up, the art direction, the acting.... everything, and I mean EVERYTHING delighted me in this.
I'm so on board for a sequel.
PS : oh, and I also love Gears of War on the other side, so please don't come at my throat xD
I hope it is just a rumor because the first game is terrible. Am I the only one who thinks the The Order 1886 is terrible. The game has terrible gameplay, a convoluted story that doesn't make since, unlikable characters, and of course it was over hyped. Why is Ready At Dawn wasting money on a sequal to a terrible game that nobody wants. If you don't believe then watch this review and whelp any you see why The Order 1886 doesn't deserve a sequal:
I hope so I would like to see more of The Order the first game had potential I thought we would have seen a follow up sooner.
@nessisonett I picked it up at GameStop a couple of months ago for 10 bucks, and it's definitely worth it for that price. The graphics are stunning and the story is really solid. The gameplay is pretty generic but overall a very fun title especially for cheap (and a very easy platinum if you're a trophy hunter).
@LaytonPuzzle27 The developers were ReadyAtDawn and the game was published by Santa Monica...
@Infinity Thanks for telling me that I fixed that error. It horrifies me that there people comments like The Order 1886 that game is a absolute train wreak because I don't like people who say positive things about bad games. Nobody should games that are garbage. Have Sony are bribing gamers to say praises to a game that should not be praised?
I don't care what anyone says this game is brilliant, the annoying thing is that with a sequel it could be absolutely amazing. The whole lore and characters had so much more to give. Hopefully we might see a ps5 sequel.
Any news on this? How can it be on xbox if it's a sony ip? Just makes me wonder if this rumor is true.
