EA's Controversial $55 Billion Buyout to Close Next Week 1

EA’s controversial leveraged $55 billion buyout will conclude next week, according to a document filed to the SEC earlier today.

Variety reports that the EA Sports FC and Battlefield maker will be owned by a consortium consisting of the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund, Silver Lake, and Jared Kushner’s Affinity Partners from 4th August.

As of 30th July, the deal has cleared all regulatory approvals, and pending any last-minute snags, should go ahead.

As previously reported, this is the largest leveraged buyout in history, with approximately $20 billion of the sale price consisting of debt financing, as arranged by JP Morgan.

Exactly what kind of impact this is going to have on the publisher’s output remains to be seen, but I’m personally not particularly optimistic it’s going to be good for gamers.
