Who the hell is responsible for this, and why have they been rummaging around in my brain?

We often joke about so-called Sammy Games™ here at Push Square Towers, but never has a title quite fit the bill like LitGirls: Bookbound Dungeon.

This turn-based anime RPG is being developed by Tokyo-based studio Nanairo Enterprise – in collaboration with publisher DANGEN Entertainment – and follows on from its work on the Nikke-esque rails-shooter TurretGirls.

The twist here – as the game’s name implies – is that your party will consist of four characters inspired by literary classics: Alice from Alice in Wonderland, Dante from Dante’s Inferno, Juliet from Romeo & Juliet, and Raven from… Edgar Allan Poe’s famous poem? It has to be, right?!

You’ll work your way through dungeons inspired by classic novels, attacking enemies like the Jabberwocky and so on. Collecting powerful words – known as LOGOS – will allow you to power-up your characters and spec them out.

The game’s due out in the first half of 2027 on PC, although console versions are also planned.

Hilariously, there will be an 18+ uncensored version available on the PC as well, presumably as a direct purchase separate from Steam. Don’t expect that to come to consoles.

Aside from the fanservice, aspects of this do remind me of the light novel series Ascendance of a Bookworm, which ultimately has a different story but does scratch a similar classic literature itch.

I think I’m legally obligated to bring you a review of this when the PS5 version drops.
