Update []:
As was confirmed yesterday, PS5 pre-orders for God of War Laufey are live now for both the standard edition and the Digital Deluxe Edition.
- God of War Laufey Standard Edition — £69.99 / $69.99
- God of War Laufey Digital Deluxe Edition — £79.99 / $79.99
There's also a new pre-order trailer, though I don't believe there's any new footage in it:
Original Story: Sony has revealed you'll be able to pre-order God of War Laufey from tomorrow, 29th September 2026, and detailed the two PS5 versions that'll be on offer.
The PS5 exclusive remains locked in for a 16th February 2027 launch, and there is a Standard Edition and Digital Deluxe Edition to choose from, with the same set of pre-order bonuses for both. I've got the details posted below:
God of War Laufey PS5 Digital Deluxe Edition

- Dark Alchemy Armor Set
- Dark Alchemy Blade
- Dark Alchemy Bow Scales
- Dark Alchemy Catalyst
- In-Game Resource Pack
- Digital Mini Artbook
- Official God of War Laufey Digital Soundtrack
God of War PS5 Pre-Order Bonuses

- Last Wish Armor Set
- Phranque Golden Leaves Appearance (cosmetic)
- In-game resource pack
Alongside the two purchaseable editions, Santa Monica Studio has shared more about the abilities Faye will have in-game. She has a bow and arrow, the Serpent Bow, and depending on how hard you press the trigger, she'll either automatically aim and shoot an arrow herself, or you'll go into a manual aim mode.
You can customise her sword, bow and arrow, and equip Faye with artifacts called Catalysts. You can learn more on the PlayStation Blog, with little video clips of the Serpent Bow.
"On behalf of everyone at Santa Monica Studio, thank you so much for all the interest and support shown for the game since our reveal in June. We’ll be back before you know it with more news for God of War Laufey, but to tide you over in the meantime we’ll leave you with a few more peeks at what the afterlife of the gods has in store for you at launch on February 16, 2027."
Here are two more new screenshots captured on PS5 Pro:
Will you pre-order God of War Laufey on PS5 tomorrow? Let us know in the comments below.

That purple outfit is kinda awesome. Exciting!
Also that key art is so rad!
Looks like we're going to spend hours comparing armour stats again 😅
Blade, bow and catalyst you say… interesting 🤔
Standard edition for me. Resources I'll gather myself, and whatever armor they include will most likely be useless by mid-game (if it actually has some stats and it's not just cosmetic).
Had really hoped there would be a Collector's Edition, but I am not surprised that there is not. Still a day one buy for me, but I had hoped the Jelly Cube could be given a more realistic appearance...
There's something about an art book that doesn't hit the same when it's not artwork on paper. A digital art book is just the same as a scan.
It's a shame there's no physical deluxe edition but by this point I expect oinking ducks and flying pigs before decent physical editions.
As much as I want this to be my first God of War game I know it can't be, I really love that purple outfit though. And the game has archery too, I'm looking forward to learning more about the game.
Costume for the cube has me howling lol
@Crimson_Ridley Agreed on digital art books. But I'm sure this will get a physical one as well. The previous God of War titles did.
And people out there say she looks ugly, smh....
Hey, I like that blue armour.
@GirlVersusGame It can be if you just watch a God of War recap.
Will be pre-ordering the deluxe edition tomorrow.
The combat looks more bombastic and the setting is certainly unique (hopefully we see some gods from underrepresented pantheons).
I'm cautiously optimistic, hoping its quality over quantity and less than £/€/$70.
Looks like a twitch drop outfit
I will pre-order the Deluxe at the start of Feb i think, no need to pre order right now.
These armors honestly look all kinds of awesome. Purple one is so stylish. Bow and catalyst, you say, huh?
For the 1 billionth time:
Do NOT pre order games. They will not sell out. Review embargo’s end in time for you to still pick up pre order bonuses, whilst making an informed purchase.
If a review embargo is post launch, that’s a no buy red flag.
Wait for the reviews, otherwise you end up a laughing stock like the Wolverine fans.
Odd that they're not revealing the price despite preorders going live tomorrow. When they announced the editions of Wolverine, Ghost of Yotei, etc. they'd show the price of each edition even when the preorder didn't go live on the same day.
@Almost_Ghostly It would feel wrong to do that when the games themselves have so much art/content/dedication infused into each title. I'll eventually get there, it's a franchise very high on my list. If even just to try Ragnarok and the 2018 one. There's the upcoming collection too, the trilogy. I'm currently trying to find purple dye in Crimson Desert. It looks like there are four different shades of purple and I've been red for weeks. I'll try the Laufey look instead.
This will be the first GoW I don’t buy at launch.
The writing/dialogue in Ragnarok was abysmal, and judging from the footage we have Laufey looks to be just as bad. Whether it’s the same talentless writers or just a precipitous drop in quality control I don’t know, but it has me leery of possibly wasting money on a sub par experience. I’ll need someone else to take that bullet before I drop $70 on it; I’ll be checking reviews to see if it’s worth my time or not. Here’s hoping the writers understand what ‘anachronistic dialogue’ means and don’t sprinkle the F word as an intensifier throughout the game’s conversations the way a valley girl uses the word ‘like’.
@Dogbreath Games sell out all the time these days, especially at launch.
High level female warrior armor are supposed to look like a bikini with shoulder plates. This must be a low level armor.
@GirlVersusGame I think chronologically this is supposed to take place just after the intro of GoW 2018. Not exactly a prequel but given it takes place before most events of that game, it might as well be. I think it would be safe to start here and then branch into GoW 2018 and Ragnarok.
Can't wait for this game
I’ll be placing my order tomorrow for a physical copy to pick up in person in launch day. Bestbuy is not as fun as old day GameStop but I trust them a lot more with my preorders and ability to cancel. GameStop is a chaotic mess to preorder from.
@Balaam_ out of interest, can you name a couple of games where you really enjoyed the writing?
I will preorder the digital edition so I have enough time to preload the game by February next year because I have really slow internet.
@Dogbreath The Wolverine game that's at the high 70's on MC and has a 4.7/5 on PSN? Seems the majority liked it.
Im looking forward to this theres no way santa monica will mess this up it will be great
Hoping the 2028 1st party lineup is better than what 2027 looks like
The purple armor is pretty slick, the artists at SM are doing a great job.
@Grumblevolcano It's £249. No matter you won't get nothing in real, but look on those shiny digital pictures you'll recieve!!!
I've only just started my playthrough of Ragnarok for the first time and I've just arrived at Niðavellir (the realm of the Dwarves), so very early on indeed.
I forgot how much I loved this series and Ragnarok definitely has me wanting to play Laufey on day one.
Day one purchase for me
@Rimebreaker @GirlVersusGame If i'm allowed to throw my 2 cents into the hat, I personally feel that without having played Laufey (for obvious reasons), it would be best to go in order of release. There are some subtle unexplained things that happen in the previous 2 entries and I believe the events of Laufey will basically show how and why those events occur (without spoiling too much). So when you play Laufey you will like go ooooohhh that makes sense now.
@Grumblevolcano because of regional pricing. For example they didn't have prices for UD2 until pre-orders were live and in HK it's 12-15usd cheaper than American pricing and brit pricing.
Can I just say I love how freaking colorful it all looks! From her hair, the armors and just the sky and enemies. If I had one issue with 2018 and Ragnarok (especially 2018) it was how cold the colors were. It made sense for Norse mythology but I just thought it was little drab outside of Alfheim.
Also, I love the Cube. It's the silly kind of thing that makes fantasy so fun. It feels like something you'd see in a old JRPG.
Removed - unconstructive
@TDHorizon Go for it, just don't forget to toss a coin to your local Witcher while you're at it. I think I'll try the 2018 one after all of those Spooky season games and before Grand Theft Auto, I've been interested in trying the series for a while now. I have the 2018 game novel too and also on audiobook. I'll probably give it a read or a listen after the game, just to see what I missed. There's a comic-book series too, I like Dark Horse so it's a maybe. I do that for a lot of games, I'm about to try Alan Wake for Spooky season and I have the game novel ready for after. Also The Alan Wake Files and The Alan Wake Library, more books. I loved Control and want to go all in with this game too.
I’m not preordering this one, but I’m looking forward to reading the reviews. I’m sort of iffy on God of War games, even if they’re relatively good. With this one being such a departure, I’m interested to see how it compares. Honestly looks like it might be the most interesting GoW game yet to me. The concept is truly novel.
It's a bummer that Sony stopped doing those physical deluxe editions, think the last one I got was Forbidden West
Honk shoo! Gonna be waiting for a deep sale on this one
So just like Wolverine and Marvel Tokon, Laufey also doesn't get steelcase or collector edition. sigh...
I never pre-order because I have quite the backlog and also I'm not rich. How do you guys do ? 😅
@GirlVersusGame
Just a side thought but, if you liked Control and if you like books (and corporate satyre), then I can't recommend enough the Triangle Agency TTRPG rulebook.
Even if you don't play TTRPG, it's a delightfully written book and very well designed
@Swirly Cue the betas starting arguments with themselves to signal their virtuous nature to the world
@MichaelNau Done thank you I'm looking through it now. I'd never heard of this one before and the only rulebooks I've seen before were for Judge Dredd and Cyberpunk. I thought I'd bought actual books, technically I did. Then I realized it was a table-top game. The art was great though. There's also a Control art-book but they sold the first print for one-thousand+ British pounds so not many people bought it. The reprint is more like fifty.
This is neat, the blue and red is just like the games lighting and the games lighting is just like the red/blue text in Danielewski's original novel that Remedy/Sam Lake was inspired by. That's the rulebook on the left, and the novel on the right.
@GirlVersusGame
You're very much welcome.
Hope you'll have a good time reading it.
I also had the chance to GM it with my friends and, each time, we laughed so hard it hurt
A cross between an art book and a novel, is as good a definition as any to describe some rule books.
Notice how they're giving the people who pre-order digitally more 'content' than those who order physically? Yet another shafty move on Sony's part to their player base....
That is a crazy long pre-order period. Why in holy hell would anyone pre-order a game that's 5+ months away? Just wait until the week it launches. You still get the bonuses even if you pre-order 15 minutes before launch. Also still a chance for a delay this far out.
Saw gameplay of the bow. Seeing an air juggle followed up eith an air combo brought a tear to my eye. Definitely feels like a testing ground for the remakes. Just wished they ditched the over the shoulder camera but ah well.
I can't waited for this, I'm going to be buying this, Tomb Raider and Fable next year in February. I'm going to pre-order this soon.
@Balaam_ agreed. I couldn't quite put my finger on it , but I remember being so interested in finding the little details and trying to piece together everything for the unanswered questions 2018 presented. To then just feel like Ragnarok gave them all the most boring and obvious answers. It's all a few years behind me now, but I distinctly remember not feeling the enthusiasm I felt when I finished 2018 GOW when Ragnarok credits rolled.
Looks like dragon age with all the purple
Will I pre-order tomorrow?
Not a chance...
@Grumblevolcano Japan price (8890 yen) is equivalent to 60USD for standard edition. In Hong Kong it is 388hkd for base edition (50USD) and 438 (60USD) for digital deluxe. Confirmed to have regional pricing.
Here pay extra for a PDF file.
2018 was a Masterpiece, Ragnarok was ok, and in places quite boring and outstayed it's welcome for me. I will probably skip this to be honest.
Hurry up and preorder guys! Those digital copies go fast!
£70….. i think i will wait for a sale
@Balaam_ I'm not sure if I buy it at all, same reasons. That comic relief cube was such an immersion breaker and took away almost all my interest in the game... 😮💨
GoW Ragnarok is one of my 2 favourite games this gen, so really looking forwards to this game, even if I would have preferred a sequel featuring Atreus and his quest to save the giants.
@Rich33 GoW:R is a PS4 game
@nomither6
God of War Ragnarok was released 9th November 2022, which puts it nearly 2 years (all bar a few days) into this generation. It has a native PS5 version (initial launch date), and Pro enhancement (added after).
After now finally completing my playthrough of the 2018 reboot of sorts and its sequel, I am indeed ready for this to slap across my digital library in February.
It’s my birthday month, so I’ll no doubt use that as an excuse to jump on it upon release. Not pre-ordering of course, as I’ll be plumping for digital as usual and as such, supply is no issue.
I did find the latest GoW a bit of a slog, but I enjoyed them despite the desire to only play for about 30-60 minutes at a time. If Laufey is as good or better I’ll get my money out of it, even if it takes me a year or two.
Sony want 125 dollars for their games here now. So expensive compared to last gen when I could get them for like 90AUD.
I wish they made some big budget RPG's because I never feel like I get my money's worth from Sony games. I finish them in a massive gaming session and then that's that.
Slightly off-topic, i feel Santa Monica could've made a better Wolverine game.
I never pre order before the reviews come out but unless it’s a mess I will be there day one. GoW 2018 ranks among my favourite games of all time.
If you are gonna pre order, do it on amazon. You only hand over cash when it dispatches and if the price dips, you will always pay the lowest price it hits. If you change your mind, you can cancel without spending a penny.
Case in point, I did this with wolverine and got a physical copy day one at 54.99.
@Athrum I think they just don't sell very well. Seems like they sit on PS Direct for a long time, even with sales.
Happy to see the $70 price. Makes me think it’s a full game and not just spun-off dlc that would have sold for $50 or $60. Though Wolverine is also $70 and that’s only a 15 hour game, so Laufey may still be linear, short, and not worth more than $30 to me.
https://howlongtobeat.com/game/97761
@Weebleman I rarely pre-order but I did pre-order Zelda OoT recently b/c I get a physical $70 game for the $60 digital price. I may cancel it later, haven’t decided. I also get 5% back w/ my Prime cc. It’s something.
@Dogbreath u know people are going to do what they want with their own money idk why people need to tell others not to pre order u have no control how someone spend their money
This game looks good but 70 dollars wow it's wild.but it's a exclusive to ps5.so it's all good.word up son
Take my money Sony
Laufey will live up to the £70 price unlike Wolverine.
God of War Girlboss
The 'put a chick in it' South Park meme remains undefeated.
@Crimson_Ridley They try their best to make it as unlikable as possible. Worse DLC and less stuff. The joke is on them i won't get their stuff from that crap store ever.
@DETfaninATL I find this quite crappy myself. It's like they see you a second class customer.
I don't think anyone could have imagined Sony tanking the entire PS5 era the way they have.
@Dogbreath exactly. That’s £70 you could have in your own account gaining interest for 5 months instead of giving it to Sony to do exactly the same.
I don’t understand the logic of preordering digital.
@A-steak-with-ketchup If Sony tanked the PS5 era what the heck have MS done?
And now look at this: same price as Wolverine.
Different length, quality and hopefully a story… although after what they showed I have rather low expectations.
Buy? You mean rent, given there’s no physical edition
@Dodoo 5 months interest on $70?! Yikes! No way to sell that.
@AhmadSumadi assuming that 70 is with the rest of your money.
Say Sony have 100k preorders at 70 = 7million they’re sitting on. At 3% interest is 210k p/a so 42k interest for 5 months. Then multiply that by the number of games and you can see why they open preorders this early. So while it may only be 70 for you, it means a lot more to Sony, it’s free money for them. I’m not sure why you’re so keen to feed into this while at the same time being detrimental to your own self. That must be what being a total blind fanboy is.
Anyway go ahead, preorder the game 5 months in advance, be Sony’s bitch I don’t give a s***
Am I the only one who think that her hair looked sick. Overall quality of the character was extremely high, but the movement of the hair and also the texture was one of the best.
I am "freak" about the lighting, shadows and hair... I think there 3 things can make scene so much better looking, instead of 4k etc
@Dodoo Wait? So you take a company’s bank account into question when you’re spending your money with them? That’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard!
Anyway, I don’t pre-order games and I never have. Digital or physical. But to think $70 will earn interest in your bank account is why you shouldn’t pre-order a game is pure nonsense! But when you start throwing out “fanboy” it already says a lot about you.
Finally. “I won’t preorder a game because they’re gonna make interest on my money” is the silliest “I don’t preorder” argument I’ve ever heard! Six months interest on $70 is probably like $1.50. But have at it.
