The Last of Us Day Celebrations Will Bring Partnerships and Collaborations, Season 3 Casting News Announced 1

A very happy The Last of Us Day everyone – even if the celebrations are somewhat on hold.

Naughty Dog has announced that it’s pausing the festivities until Monday, 28th September, where it’ll be hosting a charity stream on Twitch. You can learn more about that through here.

In the meantime, it’s teased a “partnership announcement, a very cool collaboration, digital surprises, and more”.

Don’t get too excited, of course – this will likely consist of merchandise and small digital trinkets, like PSN avatars and the like. Still, it’s cool to acknowledge the occasion, and I’ll update once more is announced.

In the meantime, Deadline has news of some casting choices for Season 3 of HBO’s live action adaptation.

Acting icon John Goodman will be joining the cast, along with Ian Alexander and Laura Bailey. The interesting wrinkle here is that both Alexander and Bailey starred in The Last of Us 2 game, as Lev and Abby respectively.

Neither will reprise their original roles, as Kyriana Kratter plays Lev in the TV show and Abby is portrayed by Kaitlyn Dever.

According to Deadline, Goodman and Alexander will play new characters named Joey and Paco, supposed “Heroes of the Highway”.

Bailey, meanwhile, will play Elizabeth – a leader of the religious cult from the games known as the Seraphites.

It’s likely this will be the last season of HBO’s The Last of Us, with the story set to focus on Abby as opposed to original protagonists Ellie and Joel.

The reception to Season 2 was not as positive as the first, so it’s going to be interesting to see how this performs overall.

Neil Druckmann, the boss of Naughty Dog and the original creator of the franchise, has decided to step back from the series in order to focus on the completion of new PS5 game Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.
