Beyond Good & Evil 2 was announced 18 years ago. Eighteen!

And apparently, the game still exists, despite all odds. Despite its completely wrecked development cycle(s), and despite the fact that Ubisoft's just recently gone through a massive company-wide restructuring.

At this point, who knows how many different versions of Beyond Good & Evil 2 there have been behind closed doors — but it's clear that none of them have made it off the ground. And with that in mind, I'm shocked that it's still breathing somewhere within Ubisoft.

But that really is the case according to French outlet Origami Media, who cite sources close to the project.

They report that several years back, Beyond Good & Evil 2 was still set to be some kind of multiplayer-focused thing, where players could band together and explore "a multitude of planets".

However, somewhere down the line, this concept got stripped down bit by bit. It apparently went from being a team-based outing, to being built around just two or three players.

And now, it's meant to have changed course completely; its current incarnation is described as a "solo-first", story-heavy title, with combat that's "very reminiscent" of the Marvel's Spider-Man games.

But don't get too excited, because it sounds like the development team is still treading water. The report claims that the game hasn't even entered full production yet, even though it's estimated that around 250 people are working on it. Mind-blowing stuff.

So how the hell has Beyond Good & Evil 2 actually survived all of this? Well, it's supposedly because Ubisoft's management is so invested; the project has always had "unwavering support" from within the company.

Will it ever come out, though? Unfortunately, no one seems to know. There's apparently a lot of uncertainty amongst those who are working on the game — and why wouldn't there be?

Do you think Beyond Good & Evil 2 will ever see the light of day? Are you shocked to hear it's still alive? Don't get your hopes up in the comments section below.
