EA will pull together its two top first-person shooter teams – Apex Legends’ Respawn and Battlefield’s DICE – to create a new Star Wars Battlefront game, Variety reports.

The site cites “multiple sources” familiar with the publisher’s plans, although nothing has been officially confirmed.

Earlier this week, a rumour claimed Lucasfilm was in active discussions with Sony’s Bungie’s to build a new Battlefront. That same speculation also floated the idea of DICE returning to the franchise, however.

Last year, Star Wars Battlefront 2 absolutely exploded in popularity on the PS4, renewing faith in the future of the franchise. An all-star dev team of Respawn and DICE certainly bodes well.

Earlier today, EA announced 400 job losses across the company, including the closure of BioWare.

But in a memo, execs Cam Weber and David Timson were bullish about the future of Battlefield and the publisher’s upcoming FPS efforts.

“We’ll be bringing together our Respawn and DICE studios to collaborate on a future project,” the pair said.

That game, reportedly, is Battlefront 3.
