So, it's looking increasingly likely that the PS6 will cost a significant sum of money.

A report that spread far and wide over the weekend claims that continually soaring component costs will put Sony in a very difficult position as far as next-gen console launches go.

In short, it's speculated that the platform holder will be spending just under $1,000 on every PS6 that it produces. So unless it plans to sell the system at a significant loss, this thing is going to command a fortune at retail.

And so, with the thought of a potential $1,000 PS6 in mind (which equates to roughly £750 or €900), I want to know if you'd actually pay it.

Of course, we're still light on next-gen details right now. Your opinion could completely swing based on launch titles, or hardware / software features. For the purposes of this poll, then, we're talking purely from a pricing perspective.

Is any console worth that amount of money? I think it's a question worth asking. As it stands, the next generation is utterly mired in uncertainty — or even outright negativity, depending on your point of view regarding Sony's decision to kill physical discs, etc.

If anything, this generation has shown us that our favourite hobby is in danger of being prohibitively expensive. The PS5's price tag has increased over time thanks to the same component crisis that threatens its successor.

Sony has also been pushing expensive accessories and peripherals more than ever before, in a bid to squeeze the most money possible out of individual sales. The same goes for software.

I think it's genuinely difficult to imagine an even more expensive console generation than this one — but all the evidence says that's exactly what we'll be getting when the PS6 drops. So many people are going to be priced out at launch and probably well beyond it.
