Re: Crimson Desert (PS5) - A Generational Open World Buried in Early Access Cruft

Yeah eventually fanatasy RPGs will reach the "singularity" where if you can image it, then the game will include it courtesy of AI. We will have an amalgamation of everything that came before, with photorealism and possibly VR. Ready Player One in action, or the Star Trek holodeck, if you will. Even the story could be created on the fly, with one player taking on role of dungeon master.

@Frmknst
On the topic of photorealistic games, you also need to factor in gameplay mechanics and kinetic movement. Most video game movement is at a faster pace than humans can do in real life. So you may either have to slow down and risk losing momentum, or have the realism but look like you the character is taking forever to swing a sword. I’m not sure if PSSR can get around this issue. It is more of a question of design. So if 99% of games don’t look like the real world then why pay $1000 for a console to cater to the 1% of games that do. This graphics arms race risks pricing out the casual user. I’m not sure if it’s worth the costs

I feel the same way about CO:E33 as I did with BG3. Great games 8/10. I played better games the years that they came out, but something about gaming and groupthink made these bigger than they were looking back on it.
I can understand also when games reach a certain critical mass in the the media at large, that gamers rally behind it thinking "yeah, now we're mainstream too, and we don't have to hang our heads in shame at our choice of entertainment." Everybody likes a winner.

Re: 'We'll Lay Off a Thousand People': Blizzard CFO's Outrageous Threat Was the Last Straw for Overwatch Director

@Balaam_
Hmmm maybe calling out the CFO would have felt good in the moment, but I'm not sure if Kaplan wants to see Overwatch fail, because of the fate of the 1000's.
Also, I don't find this comment all that shocking. This is how you get to be a CFO. Capitalism remains the "best worst" way to run an economy, and it selects for personalities like this to rise above the other workers. You kind of need to be a jerk to do what they do.

Re: Opinion: I Wonder if Xbox Helix Will Force Sony to Break Its PS6 Silence

kmtrain83

I could see things going either way. If the Helix is a success then Sony will have to react. But if it fails, they could probably delay. Some of it may have to do with how many people buy GTA 6 on each console. Sony may also feel compelled to try to either simultaneously or quickly thereafter launch PS6 Pro so that they are not too far behind in terms of power for that generation.

@get2sammyb @belmont
You are correct in saying that it is already possible to have a TV/couch PC set up, although that is still uncommon, mainly due to ergonomics and the way PC startup assumes desk/ mouse/ keyboard. However, I don't think current PCs have a way to natively play Xbox or Xbox 360 games, especially physical. I am interested to see how they bring those games forward. I also predict the NextBox will fail if they price it out of most console gamers budgets.

Re: Opinion: Sony's PC Pullback Is the Right Move for PS5

kmtrain83

Sony is a company just like Microsoft, only way smaller. They are looking at how to make more money. I wonder if them pulling back on PC is in reaction to Xbox going multi-platform, as a counterweight. It is also the case that many of Sony's other lines of business are losing to the competition (TVs for instance), so they need Playstation to keep their brand alive.
